Had the email this morning with the renewal quote, I always dread it as 99% of the time it's gone up! But this year the renewal is £5 cheaper than last year!

So I did the normal looking around and got a quote from LV, very surprised when it came back at £98 lower than my current insurance company @ £275 with protected no claims, guaranteed car hire, windscreen cover etc!!! The only thing I'm doing this year is taking out the legal expenses insurance separately with the RAC, as it's 50% of the price for the same cover!

Be interesting to see if it's come down across the board for everyone (as long as claims etc haven't changed).

Possibly a reflection of the less miles people have travelled in the last 12 months or so??
Quite a few companies are offering rebates due to less miles driven. So competition is high between them all.

Pretty sure that my renewal was lower last November. Couldn't beat it by shopping around though.

Thanks for the link Sandra, but I've never heard of them! (I'm sure they are good), but I like sticking to names I know! LV is a big name with a good reputation and reviews, so I'm very happy with that quote :)

2nd year with AIB and very happy.

I used to be with LV but they weren’t great with too many mods.

LV always rank highly but refuse to insure me due to my age even though I’m 25 now, wouldn’t entertain an S3 nor S5.

Aviva has been the best for me for the past few years via their multi car policy with the rest of the family, they are pretty relaxed on modifications too which is good. Only thing is they tend to have extra excesses in place for high performance cars which on the S5 is £400 I think!

Did have a switch around on the names back in Nov, renewal came through as £800 with my Dad as the principal policy holder (me as main driver on my car). Taking the policy out in my mums name via their new quotation service meant the price for my car was then £500, exact same details me as the main driver on my car still. Slightly annoying they couldn’t give that price originally but they still got the business as they were the cheapest I could find!

Had my home insurance renewal quote through & that was £25 (17%) cheaper this year, never had that happen previously...ever. Got a few other quotes & no one came close so renewed it.

Same with mine, it’s funny though as I initially thought “what’s missing from the cover” but everything was spot on.

Fingers crossed my renewal reflects this. So far comparison prices are near triple what I paid last year.

Yeah that is today. Waiting for for my renewal from Admiral but they're taking their sweet time!

Seems odd. But all the comparison sites I've used are quoting triple my current premium. So very concerned and insurers like admiral aren't even showing up.

I work for Admiral. Mine took ages this year as well. Usually its 25 days before renewal.

Argh that's annoying! How long before renewal did you get yours if you don't mind me asking? Their renewal price is what I'm praying on at the moment haha!

Mines due on the 5th of March
Glad it was 40.00 cheaper, but will still shop around.
Seems lots of insurance going down due to less claims and people on the road.

Not to bash insurance companies and get off track but can I ask do you know why Admiral ask for factory spec’d optional extras to be declared when getting a quote?

It always puts me off bothering getting a quote from them, I’ve got 10+ options on my car, half of which weren’t even listed when I checked once so I just gave up, seemed more hassle than it was worth. As far as I’m aware no other insurance companies bother asking. Wonder how many people get caught out by not bothering to list them all and when it comes to claiming they get into hot water...

We used to rate on optional extras quite some time ago as they considered them modifications from standard, but the was years and years ago. We don't anymore.

Now they ask for them in case your car is written off so we know what came with your particular car.

Believe it or not you have people who say I had every optional extra and ask to be paid top top book, but if you ask a person to list them, it stops fraud because some cars don't come with certain extras.
It actually benefits you because when we value your car in a write off we put all those optional upgrades into glasses guide, and some make a massive difference in price. Sometimes a value can go up thousands depending on how much that extra is valued in the current market.

That’s interesting to hear and it does make sense, not having a dig just genuinely curious as to why Admiral does ask but nobody else seemingly. It would make it easier if Admiral could automatically pull the options from the reg like Audi do for spec check etc. People like my parents for instance would have no clue how to easily find out what was and wasn’t an option on a second hand car for instance.

Can understand the value thing though; matrix headlights could add an extra few thousand to a repair bill over the standard headlights for instance. Luckily I’ve got GAP Insurance so my car would be replaced like for like anyway regardless of what my insurance valued it at but appreciate not everyone takes that out.

We only have access to databases that police do, so we wouldn't be able to get all the optional extras off the Dvla, but it's a good idea.

Gap insurance is great, you would be surprised on how many total loss claims I deal with and people are left thousands out of pocket because they didn't buy gap. They have non fault accidents and still have to pay thousands to the finance company.

Seems odd why it's gone up so much on other quotes! Do you think it has anything to do with the wrap?

Mine is due at the end of March, interested to see what the quote will be this year.

My annual mileage has dropped by around 80% this year, and for the foreseeable future is likely to be down by at least 60%.

No way to declare the wrap really! Even removing mods (just to see) it's the same outcome. Has left me very confused.

To keep the thread going! Renewal has come through. £100 cheaper than last year

I'm curious on people's thoughts on the below?

Did anyone change their mileage details? I usually have mine as 12k miles (8 business 4 personal) and have kept it as such even though I'm still working from home. It's a job to know what to put so kept it the same.

I will be dropping mine, have been 13k per year in a mix of commuting, social & pleasure. Even when we go back to the office which is likely to be after the summer it will be a max of 3 days per week.

Well with cheaper quotes being quite normal I had a shock on the missus VW UP. Tesco wanted to hike it from £200 to £220. I found loads cheaper for the same cover on GoCompare. Swinton are now getting our business for £150. and that's with a Liverpool postcode.

My Staff renewal quote was £399.00 as a 1 off or £430.00 for DD

I called up and forgot I no longer need to go into work, they wont even allow me on site right now, so I removed commuting, I got it down to £360.00.

So when I bought my insurance it was £430.00, that was when I bought my car and a new quote (before lockdown), so the next renewal went down to £399.00 (during lockdown), and now its £360.00

Seems insurance is going down everywhere.

Unless you have had motoring convictions/Claims or different cars ect. They would have a hard time Justifying raising premiums.

Its not a good look for insurance companies to raise premiums when people are losing their jobs or not driving so much.

One exception to falling policies appears to be touring caravans. Last year I paid £254 against my Audi insurance of £270. This year they wanted £360 so I shopped around, had typical quotes of £360-£500+ before finding a company that would provide cover for £268.
I cannot figure it out. Claims must have been at an all time low as some owners could not used vans at all. I reckon we manage 4 weeks instead of 10, which is fairly typical for younger retired folk.

That's good news mate, I bet you let out a sigh of relief :)

I set my mileage to match what I've done between services, no arguments then.

just renewed mine . was through " quotesdirect " and last year was paying £36 a month obviously more as I prefer to pay monthly. my renewal came through the other day and it would drop to £32 a month this works out at £358 a year including the £58 credit charge and a £60 setup fee, yes I know. So jumped on to some comparison sites today and go compare came back with £220 for the year and £258 if I paid it monthly as that included credit charge and £40 setup fee , Guess who from ? yes you guessed it " Quotesdirect " so gave them a call explaining I had found it cheaper online through a comparison site from themselves and they said no problem we will price match that so now I have dropped from £36 a month to £23 . Bonus .

So, what happens with "specials"? I'm movinbg to a Cupra Ateca "Limited Edition". That has some additions over the standard Cupra Ateca, but not as part of an options pack - so the heated electric front seats, 20" alloys and Brembo brakes aren't going to show up on the database against the reg, but technically aren't options either.

If they are sold by Seat as an option then its not a modification.
All that happens is if you needed to make a claim you just provide proof that you had them installed from new and they will add them into your total loss payment, or fix them if they are damaged if the car needs repairing. But you need the proof from Seat that they were fitted from new.
I am only going off MOST 95% of insurers, there are obscure ones that may still consider optional extras as modifications, but they will ask you when you take out the policy, but these are becoming rare.

We get lots of claims for diamond coating, this is not on a extra list when the car is made, but we do require proof and we will respray the part damaged with diamond coat. People usually have a ford receipt or simular to show it was protected by the manufacturer.
