On my current Golf you can have 2 phones connected at the same time and 1 will act as a “master”. This is the one that you can phone from using the car controls and shows your stored numbers and assigned contact photos.
If someone phones the second phone you can still answer it as per normal, the only difference is that the phone number is displayed of the person calling and not the contact name. You can easily switch between the 2 (which is master) by just pressing on that phone on the display.
I thought the A3 would have been the same

The S3 8V was exactly the same as that but the new 8Y only allows 1 phone at a time, absolutely pi$$ed off about this, I use this as my works car and need the 2 phones, it was in at Wolverhampton Audi all afternoon yesterday to try and find out why, they say they are looking into and so is Amersham where I bought it from but it’s all gone very quiet

Mine connects both and you just switch them about on the MMI

Yeah that’s just it, if one is connected the other does not ring and by the time you have swapped them over you’ve missed the call, I’ve also tried one on car play but as soon as it connects it switches off the Bluetooth to the other, very poor!

Mine was built in December 20’ and to access the screen you mention you simply swipe from left to right on the Home Screen.

An update:-

Car was at dealerships for 3 days last week, all the software etc.. updated to the latest spec, but still no 3rd screen, wireless car play etc..

The dealer has escalated this to "factory" but still waiting for a response!

My plan of action that if the problem cannot be resolved by software fixes is to have the whole MMI replaced with a new one under warranty, i have checked the "legals" etc... and I am within my rights to ask this to be done.

Regarding the use of 2 phones, haven't checked, but i'm sure mine will have the same issues.

Great work, I thought I saw somewhere that the hardware code is the same in all them regardless of build date, also a point I’ve mentioned to Audi, where the hell is all the S3 branding, it was all over the 8V screens, proud of the racing heritage my *** just throw the software in from the A3, Amersham Audi ain’t even been ***** to call me back about any of the software problems!

So to add to the missing 3rd screen, and no wireless Apple Car play, have now discovered 2 other problems.

My Audi connect App refuses to connect to the MMI, even the dealer can't get it to connect.

Also when you are listening to music via media on the mmi and then switch to the radio the whole system is muted, the only way to get sound is to switch the car off and start again!

My dealer is aware and seen both problems first hand! and is keen to resolve, they've even talked about getting me another car!!!

My dealer is Hull Audi, and they have been fantastic, can't fault their level of service.

I'm having the exact same issues with my MMI.

Whenever I switch between radio and media or take a call whatever I'm listening to will stop and I can't get it to play again.

It's been driving me mad as definitely not what I'd expect with an Audi.

I've now booked in with Audi Farnbourgh on Friday for them to take a look

I’ve come to the conclusion that mine will never have the third screen. Dealer hasn’t been back in touch for two and half weeks now. One thing is for sure I won’t break my golden rule ever again, which is to never buy a new car in the first year of production. I wish I’d waited till all the teething problems are ironed out.

I do understand that, but I'm fairly sure this software/hardware has been in the A1/Q3 for a little while now so there shouldn't be teething issues really and they certainly should be able to sort it - They charge a premium price tag for a premium brand so get on and act like one - That's my opinion

Upto yet I’ve had to take 2 days off work, get the wife to collect me from the dealership and then take me back later, because they can’t loan me a car and then listen to the dealer tell me that the thing is that new they are still learning what’s installed and what’s not. I can’t be without the car as I need it daily for work so I’ve resorted to it will either be like this forever or get sorted when it’s in for a service.
Other than the extra page missing on the Home Screen I’m really liking the car and I find it much better than my previous A3 2016 model.

Does your car have the wireless charging box? just read something strange (but more detailed) on the AUDI IE website.

"Handsfree talking is also possible with up to two connected mobile phones"

Hope that is not true that you need the box in order to connect 2 phones

No I don’t have the wireless charging I had it on the 8V and hardly used it

I wonder if that could be it, I'll go test on my car later in the morning (I've got the wireless charging box)

So just to make sure I test it correctly, you have 2 phones connected A and B.

A is selected on the virtual cockpit for phonebook etc, but when you get a phonecall on B it doesn't come through the speakers unless you change the selected phone on the cockpit?

That’s exactly right, I have to manually swap between phones

You're not going to like this, but it works flawlessly on mine.

I think this is Audi again cocking up with the descriptions on the websites. The UK website description for the wireless charging box reads:

"This enables you to make and receive calls conveniently while on the move and to charge compatible smartphones wirelessly in the vehicle." - can you get any more vague?

Where as the Irish description for the same thing reads:

"Handsfree talking is also possible with up to two connected mobile phones"

I think you would have selected it had the description been clearer on the UK site, am I right?

Can anyone else on here without a wireless charging box can verify this by connecting two phones via bluetooth, and then using a third phone to call each phone one at a time. Do both phones pop up on the virtual cockpit display and come through the speakers ?

I'm the same as Bayl with mine, I don't have the wireless charging either, as didn't see any reason to get it. I can connect both mobiles, but can't take calls on the second one unless its selected as the master.

I've been getting around this by setting up call forwarding whenever I have to drive anywhere, but thats a complete pain in the ****.

If I need the wireless box to have two working phones, that is bull in my opinion, being able to use two phones should be a standard option in my opinion. Pre-covid I was travelling roughly 25,000 miles a year, so having the ability to connect and receive calls on two phones is an absolute must have for me.

I’m exactly the same not doing tons of travelling right now but normally would do 20-25K, I’m ****** with the whole software thing tbh, it’s just a generic software the same as the A3 there is no customisation for the S cars, boring!

Thanks guys, totally agree it's nonsense that you need the wireless charge box in order to connect two phones properly.

I've asked Audi-uk to clarify on this so not holding my breath.

But either way I think it needs to be made clear as for many people like myself the upgrade was seen as somewhat pointless and I nearly did not go for it.

Let's see if anyone else without the wireless phone box has the same issues.

Just had it confirmed by Audi UK ... "You would need the wireless charge box to connect two phones simultaneously" ....

Ridiculous how would we have ever known this if it were not for the more detailed description on AUDI Ireland...

It will be interesting to see how long your dealer takes to figure it out, they really need to stop being super vague with their descriptions

Cheers, thats just ridiculous.

And knowing Audi I'm going to hazard a guess that we won't be able to easily retrofit one into the car. My ****** 2014 Ford Focus had the ability to use two phones at once.

Given the vagueness of the information on the Audi website for the wireless box, and the fact that my dealer told me I could connect two phones (which in my opinion means I'd be able to use two phones) I'm wondering what options I have to get something fixed or put in.

Thanks guys this is interesting, I’m still waiting on Amersham Audi they are ignoring my calls, how did you contact Audi UK I think I will take it to them, the retro fit looks quite straight forward it just replaces the front section.

No worries, still strange that we have to figure these things out rather than "the specialists".

I went through Facebook Messenger, it usually gets picked up within an hour or two, and that way you have everything in writing.

From looking at the last gen, it seems the retrofit is expensive.. £799 https://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/products/audi-retrofits/audi-phone-box-retrofit/

I've emailed Audi Customer Services directly on customer.services@audi.co.uk with my concerns. Hopefully I'll get some sort of response.

So my car has been with Audi all day today being looked at, and I've been told the following

- The music stopping when you switch between Radio and Media is apparently being caused by the fact that my mobile (Galaxy S20) is incompatable with the Audi MMI system. (Honestly I'm not sure if I beleive that and was wondering whether anyone is using a S20 with no challenges?)

- The Audi dealership doesn't appear to have a clue about why 2 phones can be connected, but only the primary phone will receive calls. They haven't said a thing to me about the Wireless Charge Box being the cause. (I'm still waiting on Audi Customer Services to also come back to me on this one), and have said they are continuing to look into whats going on with this.

- The favourite screen I've been told is due to it not being a feature on my model (A3 Saloon) apparently. I know that others are seeing the issue on the S3, but was wondering whether any A3 drivers have the screen on their MMI at all?

Honestly I don't feel like Audi have been very useful with this at all. They don't seem to really have any idea whats causing some of the MMI issues, and have said that they want to hold the car to run further tests on it.

Unforutnately as they can't then tell me when I'd get the car back (it could be anywhere from 2 - 10 days), and I need it for work I'm not able to leave it to get sorted.

I'll see what Audi Customer Services comes back with too

That sounds like complete BS to me, other people have got the same problem I doubt they all have Samsung, they did say something similar to me as I have iPhone 12 Pro, it’s too new for the software loolll, also mines an S3 and I don’t have the third screen, I’ve heard they are built in two different places so perhaps one is loading one software and one another version??

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Looks like we may finally get a breakthrough...

I've also had a response from Audi Digital Services telling me that I should be able to connect two mobile phones and use both without issues (weirdly they never mentioned the wireless car box, so not sure whats going on here) and that I should have wireless car play enabled and usable on the MMI.

Sam be good to see what your dealer comes up with on the favourites screen, as at the moment mine are swearing it doesn't exist.

This is what annoys me, I have the 3 screens so it clearly does exist, so why do they keep denying it, just because they haven't seen one yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist

Tell me about it. I've actually shown them the photo which is in this thread, and given them all of the firmware details and still they are swearing its not a feature.

Really that's ridiculous

I think I've spent more time on the phone to a dealer than I've ever had to before.

Whats annoying me is that everytime I speak to them about a feature, thats either found in the manual, others are reporting to have, or that their own digital services team are telling me exists, the response I get is that its not a feature on my vehicle, and a complete refusal almost to look at it.

I'm very close to throwing eveything out and trying to return the car which considering its on PCP is going to be a bitch to do.

I really don't blame you to be honest.

I've spoken to digital services about remote lock from my phone and was told it wasn't requested at factory build (why would it surely they all have it as that's what they advertise for the My Audi App) and as you know the ongoing Traffic Sign Recognition/Speed Limit display debacle.

This is the response I received today about Speed Limit Display:

At this time, I can not confirm whether there has been a mistake made in the literature for your vehicle, but I will be feeding this information back for it to be explored further by the brand -

A mistake in the manual which clearly states applies if you don't have camera based display - No mistake especially as we now know that standard spec shows prep for Dynamic Road Sign display for FOD so clearly expecting us to pay for it

My response:

I have since found this under My Audi login as standard spec for my car and assume that all other cars are the same due to the Lane Assist and Pre-Sense - On the Audi forums other people are showing the same spec as standard equipment
Prep for dynamic road sign display for FOD so as suspected it was intended for us to pay for the speed limit anyway

  • Service indicator 30 000 km or 2 years ( variable )
  • Camera and/or distance sensor (driver assistance system)
  • Prep for dynamic road sign display for FOD
  • Hill-hold assist
  • Instrument cluster, mph speedometer -Great Britain-
  • Lane departure warning
  • Without lane change assist
  • Audi pre sense front
  • Cruise control
So, as you will see there was never any intention for Audi to provide this, but to make us pay for it at a later date which is absolutely shameful and very underhand.
I will contact you as soon as I can arrange a safe visit to the dealership, however until Functions on Demand are available, which will be the only way to resolve this, it will have to wait for a while, but I will be expecting Audi to pick up this cost to enable this feature.
I will be in touch
Thank you for your time so far, but please feel free to pass my comments back to Audi Germany and Audi UK management, so maybe they can see that their customers are becoming very dissatisfied with their attitude towards them and their constant penny pinching but not reducing the price of the cars as now getting less for more - They are cheapening their own brand and heritage.
This Functions on Demand bit has really annoyed me I have to say and I've never really felt like this towards Audi in my 16 years and 10 cars I've had with them.

I've gone for full waffle now as just fed up with them - To be fair my salesman has been great and they did look after us, but Audi UK and Germany just don't seem to give a ****

So the long shot is there is no way the dealer can resolve the 3rd page issue, they have admitted defeat.
To add insult to injury the mmi has started crashing and rebooting constantly now and there is no fix for that either.
I will enter discussions next week about returning the car and walking away.
