Contract engineering design draughtsman (marine and industrial diesel engines) - and drawing board, way before computers... And we saved HARD for 3-years to purchase the Europa. When we went to collect/pay for Lotus had increased the price again by £8 and that nearly stopped the 'buy' dead in its tracks, I could have had a drop-gead 4.2 E-type for less - but them things don't go around corner or stop too well! The Europa, especially when fitted with the Formula Ford Firestone Torrino tyres (6.5 front and 7.3 rears, sticky cross-ply on 5.1/2J rims) was unbelievable...

Cool pics though:yes:

Yeah, well, needs must; cost another £150 for the factory to build it and where was the fun in that?

Old school designer....:respekt:
A hard job back in the day. I much preferred reading off a proper draughtman's drawing when I started in engineering back in 89. CAD drawings were coming into their own around that time. The last lot of drawings I worked to that were done by hand were for a Magnox nuclear power station dating back to the late 60's.

Yeah but I do/did a lot of computer stuff now lastly animated work instructions for the build/strip/maintenance of rotary Wankel engines for UAV's: take a Solid Works model and animate it with IPA 8.1; great job, loved it... But yes, if I could go back to any job it would be the drawing board and a handful of pencils.

I agree. During the test drive, everything was just so much better. I am reading that some people have complaints about the quality of the interior compared to the previous version, but this was the selling point for me. I was going for a Seat Leon at the beginning.

What was the reason you chose the A3 over the Leon? Reason I am asking is the wife is looking into replacing her car and the Leon is one on her list.

Had my first driving lessons in a Mk2 XR2 G reg. and passed my test ( first time I might add lol) in an XR2i H reg. Both were white hence my fondness for white cars.

2 reasons that made me change my mind.

1) I was dissapointed from the interior of the new Seat Leon. Previous one was better in my opionion.

I dont like it when in a car the infontaiment system is like an external screen attach to the car. In the Audi A3 the infotaiment system is part of the car. The same with the previous version of Leon.

Also, very important, buttons! Audi has climate controls outside of the infontaiment system, while in the new Leon everything is controlled from the screen.

2) I realized that I want to drive something that look premium. The Audi badge looks more premium that the Seat.

The lack of buttons in the new Golf was also the main reason I chose the A3 instead (the A3 was initially third on my shortlist). That and the fact that the virtual cockpit /MMI in the A3 is far better than the equivalent in its sibling.

God I used to salivate over XR2’s when I was a kid :)
I remember trying to get home from work (snow was falling like billyoh). Parked up in the truck up and local radio news was talking about snowdrifts etc. Around 20:00 as I got closer to home the snow drift was so big a JCB3C couldn't clear it fast enough so I had to park up the XR2 and attempt to walk home, took me 3hrs to walk 2 miles. Next day I went back for the car and couldn't find it as it was completely covered, anyway finally found it, dug it out and got home. The big story was that many cars along the same route had been broke into (stereo nicked etc) but mine was ok. The good old days, oh and my pepperpot wheels were hand painted black.

Never ever ever ever ever a FORD guy; we went MG Metro TURBO, but only because I was working for Austin Rover at the time and with the K-series Rover Metro looming they were selling the old stock off: nevertheless this MG METRO TURBO gave RS3copilot 17-years of FUN commuter motoring PLUS our fabulous 25th wedding anniversary drive into France (1993):

METRO DIXIE Dixie 1 METRO DIXIE engine

They were good cars for the day. Back then it was what everyone wanted and stole. lol
Why they gave the RS those horrible three spoke wheels I will never know.:puke2:
There's quite a few XR2's driving around where I live in particular an off white one on a B plate which is driven by a rather tasty blonde haired lady :yum:

Meanwhile back at da ranch my Matrix oled rear tail lights eventually arrived today had to pay another £50 to "HMRC" over and above what l had paid the seller for the items plus his delivery charge...so they've become a wee bit expensive. But l aint stopping there, same seller has a brand new 2021 TTRS rear spoiler for sale but before l gave him an offer he was already waiting on a reply from another punter so if he doesn't hear from him by tomorrow its mine then l just need the gloss black emblems jobs a good un
