Audi A4 B7 2.0 16v TDi Air Filter Box.

Hello,

I had a garage change the air filter while my car was in for a MOT in September last year. However, I was under the bonnet and noticed that the air filter box was open. I tried to screw the fastening screws back in but no joy. The screws had ribbons of plastic on the gripping part of the screw as if it had been over tightened and stripped the hole in the air filter.
can any one advise the best replacement screw size to use to close the air filter box?
Also attached is a picture of a air box with the cover removed showing the two screws.
I would appreciate any replies.

Tbh, I'd put some araldite in there, let it set, drill a hole suitable for the screw to go in to cut a new thread, no need for a whole new box.

Looks like they didn't fit the air filter element in fully before fixing the lid ,then just tightened it up , it doesn't take a lot of force to strip those plastic threads, well if the lid doesn't close fully before tightening .

Tbh, I'd put some araldite in there, let it set, drill a hole suitable for the screw to go in to cut a new thread, no need for a whole new box.

Yes, I did think of that but my car is parked too far away from the house to use a drill.

Looks like they didn't fit the air filter element in fully before fixing the lid ,then just tightened it up , it doesn't take a lot of force to strip those plastic threads, well if the lid doesn't close fully before tightening .

I have to agree. I tried to close it but it would not let me. I’ll have to remove the filter then reseat it and screw back together once I know the correct over sized screw required.

Take the air filter out and do the repairs near a drill.

Urmmmm, dare I say it, but cordless drill, even a dremel will do it.

Yes, I’m thinking of removing the air box and and using an electric tool I have that is the same design of a dremel and going down that route.
