Hi all,

Still waiting for my new pride and joy to be delivered since getting to UK nearly 2 weeks ago so am currently non stop watching of you tube vids and reading up

I wondered though .... is the powered tailgate only operated by key and button on boot or is there and other way? Does the key close it too?

cheers
Jon

I'd be interested to know that too, not come across a car that has it fitted as of yet. - otherwise I'd probably have filmed it lol

Never thought I’d spec it and was a waste of time but after having something similar on my company car 330e it’s so handy, especially when hands are full with shopping.

Wait, so on the keyfob, the boot release button (i recall seeing it has a 2X on it) if you press it twice, just unlocks the boot, so you can manually open it, or it actually pops the boot open, so you just need to lift it, or it opens it fully on gas struts hitting a low ceiling if in a garage?

Hi there is a button to open it on the drivers door near the door pocket - You can also do the foot waving underneath the back bumper if your hands are full although I find it a bit temperamental sometimes - Usually when the car has been locked for a while and gone to sleep but sometimes it's straight away - you can also shut it by waving your foot underneath and it beeps at you to tell you it's coming down.

I like the way you can set the height as well - very useful in my garage as can now open it without having to hold it up so it doesn't hit the roller door above.

You have to have the advanced key system though which is a bit annoying because it end's up over £700 (I know you then get full keyless entry)- You'd think you could add the powered tailgate only but would lose the foot gesture part without advanced key but that's Audi for you.

I do like it though

Powered Tailgate it will fully open it if you press it twice - Open the boot and then pull it down to your required height (i.e doesn't hit the garage ceiling) and hold the close button until it beeps - it will then always open to that height

Thanks @Sparks43 that's good to know, I always wondered whether it included the foot sensor when I was spec'ing up my edition1 I never went for it in the end.

I'm pretty sure it does not mention the sensor on their website, but it sounds like a great feature to have.

It doesn't mention the foot sensor at all, but I think my dealer said it had it - Like I say a bit temperamental sometimes - not sure if I'm not passing the sensor quite right or it's gone to sleep and not reading the key.

Still handy to have though

Hi all,

collected my new pride and joy yesterday and wow, love it.

regarding powered tailgate, can be operated by press of key, button on drivers door, by tailgate itself on indeed by foot swipe under rear bumper.

So so handy, glad I specc’d it

Was powered tailgate another restricted option on a single trim only? Don’t remember seeing it as an option when ordering my new car

Edition 1 or S3 by the looks of things with the Advanced Key you can then spec the powered tailgate

I tried an s-line and doesn't appear to give you the option

can anyone confirm if the closing action should work on the saloon? I can't seem to find the button anywhere inside the bootlid :O

Really hope its not a sportback only thing...

It's standard on the Vorsprung A3/S3 Saloon but not an option on anything else in the saloon range - Edition 1 and S3 Sportback option - Standard on the S3 Vorsprung

Does anyone know if you can get the power tailgate retrofitted. Specced it when I ordered the car , but Audi took it off due to microchips.

Forgot to say this would be for an A3 sports back.

Not sure how reliable it would be.

HI there - I bought this kit
and despite it saying sportback in the descrition I think it is for the saloon version only - the struts are just too industrial and short I took delivery of the kit ages ago and there are no instructions. I asked for some and they came in Chinese in the form of an anotated powerpoint but not comprehensive enough!
Its a bit of a minefield powered tailgates as I also own a Mk8 Golf and bought a kit from Autoease and had no problems at all but the price of some of the kits out there is astronomical.

there is this kit https://www.kufatec.com/en/audi/a3/...ctric-tailgate-for-audi-a3-8y-sportback-45320
