All new S3

just to muddy the waters slightly (lol)

a lot also depends on the shop setting up both tv’s accurately as ‘out of the box’ picture quality tends to need tweaking to get the best picture - some more than others, especially the Samsung’s imo.

But get them both running at their best and I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any of the high end Samsung’s (Q 80 or above) or any of the oled’s be it LG, Sony or Pana.

Imo oled definitely has the edge though. The blacks cannot be beat and the image is very natural whilst still giving amazing hdr pop.
Unfortunately where I live all the independent tech shops have long gone. All that's left is PC World/Currys. From experience they don't seem bothered in setting up a system to it's full potential plus the staff hardly know what's what. lol
I will definitely consider an OLED tv though.:icon thumright:

The good thing with Curry’s / John Lewis etc, is that you can try the TVs and if you don’t like them send it back and get something else.

Are you 100% sure on the viewing angle mate. There is zero drop off with the oleds. I know Samsung have made a lot of progress to address this issue on the qled’s but I’m not convinced there’s no drop off at all ?
If you view straight on its an irrelevance anyway.
Hdr pop agree, that is the Sammy’s trump card but the oleds are still amazing. I prefer the LG operating system over the Sony which is the reason I went that route.

like I say either option great ... most important thing is to get a good panel !!!
The 4k Samsung I have now has terrible judder if you are watching something like footy. Will certainly look out for this with a new one.

A lot of that is to do with the motion settings - have to tried tweaking the settings for different types of motion or turning it off ?

like I say you have to tweak the settings to get the picture (& motion). I turn off all the motion on my LG and then it’s perfect ... no idea why the tv’s can’t be set up better from the factory.

The Storm concept would be illegal in most countries, certainly the U.K., Europe and USA (the latter doesn’t even allow matrix lights). The concept shown in the second half of the video has found its way into the eTron, which uses OLED tiles in a more conventional manner.

I have to correct you on viewing Angles my friend the award winning Samsung Q90R picture can seen from any angle and when it comes HDR and picture pop un beaten in this dept My ideal set would have been a 77" Sony OLED AG9 but l wasn't willing to pay £5k-£6k for a TV Sony's picture processing is the best in the Oled market horses for courses as they say

Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

Thanks, for the correction on viewing angles, I have not viewed that Q90R and that surprises me. the one thing I do not like on a telly is picture pop, too artificial and that is why I calibrate all the weird settings in custom mode, just go to custom settings for SDR, HDR and Dolby and you will get an idea of calibration settings.

Not really into the Anals of tv calibration mate in the last 30 years l have some stunning tvs even had the first 36 inch widescreen tv on the market by Phillips..... Pioneer 50 inch rear projection tv....loads of Sony Trinitron sets even had a 34 inch S series top the range set....it weighed 13 stone...All in the 90s...THX Sound systems, Laserdisc use to import NTSC discs from the states.....My eyes are the calibration tools l use.
Today's sound equipment/TV's aint that great of an advancement its just that TV's have got larger for less money.....disposable as well its lucky you get 5 years out of a set now
l could never see past Pioneer Tv's Kuro etc etc production stopped then l went to Sony who then dropped the ball by putting all their efforts in development of games consoles that's when LG/Samsung....grabbed the ball. When Sony try they can make the best sets on the market....the AG9 is that very one

The Viewing angles on the top of range qleds are excellent the one connect box is brilliant suits my system the LG's magic wand remote is not befitting of a tv at that price Samsung gives you 2 remotes on their range topping sets one is for daily use which easy to use the other is of made brushed genuine Aluminum it's real slick looking too good to use lol blooming is slight but acceptable only noticeable in the likes of a movie like Gravity...even then its rarely noticeable the LG C9 was not compatible for room and would have stuck out more from the wall than my Q90r does my room is only 4 metres Sq with a king size bed bang slap in the middle lol the picture that my Pioneer lx500 fires up on to my Sammy has to be seen to believed.....Sound Quality is amazing it's only when you pass a picture of this standard "disc dependant" you realize how capable your tv panel is....QLED or OLED.....as l said before it depends on the source material you feed your tv l dont watch terrestrial tv or stream faux 4k hdr

The Q90 is awesome pal & there’s always a debate each year between that & the equivalent oled. Either are top line imo & high end 4K TVs are now at a level where the improvements are minimal each year as the tech has evolved to such a degree.

Saw one in London today, same spec. The silver trim really suited the Navara blue well!
