Pull the trigger and buy cheap part, or buy Genuine OEM?

So.

I want to install cruise control in me car. Because the 20 minute motorway ride to work can be tedious without cruise control.
There are a gazillion different options on eBay. Some are around 40 quid from trusted sellers with good reviews.
However, should I just go the smart route and buy a genuine kit for around 2x the price?

I've had pretty good success in the past from buying on eBay as I tend to only buy from sellers with 98 percent positive feedback and with over 5k reviews (lol picky I know)

Any input?

Well, as we all know some eBay sellers sell genuine OEM parts from the factory but have the part number scratched off and at a cheaper price.

As you may note, the genuine OEM part is double the price (90 pounds versus 40 pounds) however they are both being sold by reputable sellers, 20k+ reviews and nearly 100 percent positive feedback, so I can imagine you understand my somewhat hesitation.

Indeed I do understand where you're coming from but I'm just looking at my old A3 8L 23 years old 24 next birthday day and all the OEM parts mostly are going good and strong hence my decision to recommend OEM for example at paid £45 for a heated mirror original OEM and then had another one imported from Germany cheaper price but delivery expensive but still went ahead anyway. Not all OEM parts are built to last but 23 years down the line my original stalks are still on the car they are all functioning correctly. But ultimately the choice is yours financially speaking. Good luck I'm sure you will make the right choice.

come and remove mine, I've had the car for over a year and never even used cruise control..

Cruise + distance sensing , very useful in m way road works , especially with lane sense -)

Lot of parts are oem only . like the ex-temp sensor and lateral acceleration sensor , half a grand £ to start with
heated door mirrors ....

I use cruise control all the time! It was one of the first retrofits I had done and 10 years on it’s still working. I literally couldn’t be without it on the motorway. It’s even handy for those average speed checks and stuff. Because I rely on it so much I’d probably go OEM, but that’s just me. The third party version looks good in the pictures though. Genuine VAG parts have a two year warranty though.
