Audi S3 to VW Golf R - Am I a joke to you?

Very nice.. not sure the extra over a BE is worth it though. My choice would be Mythos which looks the DBs but @snakepliskin will tell me that’s boring!View attachment 213855

Lol ... black is your default :)

It does suit the car though but as @jassyo06 says it’s a pig to look after.

My TTS was black and looked amazing when clean - but only lasted a day if you were lucky.

Had an A3 Black Edition in Panther Black before the S3 and hated it after 6 months. It was a nightmare to keep tip top. My first Audi was an A4 quattro sport and that was in Exclusive Ming Blue. That was easy to keep clean go figure:shrug:

Well l have decided on my next car for numerous reasons uber interior older Audi build quality .....has everything l desire option wise and more yeah it's the TTS Vorsprung 320 not fully decided on the colour yet......dont think the TTS warrants a exclusive paint though....????but exterior colours/interior design packs is a bit convoluted, its available to order in Germany atm....and the UK website Configurator on the TT/TTS is down atm for changes.....

Nice mate, love the TTS. Just need to decide on colour

Not sure Panther was ever an A3 colour as standard. S and RS .. I would agree it is a ****** to keep nice but Mythos is a very forgiving colour. Also Ming Blue was a standard Audi Colour on the earlier A4. Never 'exclusive' TTBOMK... Nice, but not as shiny as the Moro Blue that replaced in in around 2002.

I don’t think you’ll regret that decision pal.
Having owned a mark II TTS & a mark III S line & further backed up with RG’s current experience, I think it’s a certain cracker of a car :icon thumright:

Very interested to hear what colour you go for - why do you think it may not warrant exclusive vs an S3 though ?
You had better get your order in G..

As much as I like the car ... I’m not sure I’d go back to a 2 door. I had 2 TT’s in a row followed by an S5 (then the wife’s TT) and having made the switch to 5 door was a revelation on door opening. No more squeezing in/out plus having the use of rear doors for bags etc was a big positive for me for public parking & garaging so doubt I’d go back now.

I really like the look of a 2 door, in particular a coupe. In fact my S3 was my first 4 door car in over 10 years, the only car I think that looks better in a 4 door is the S5 sportback.

The later S5 Sportback looks fine but back in 2008 the original Coupe looked lovely yet the Sportback? 2009 somehow didn’t look right. The B9 is much nicer.

Agree, the previous A5 coupe was a very good looking car. I had a BE for a few years and it was a great car.

current generation, the sportback variant is much better looking, unfortunately with it having a Diesel engine it wouldn’t be for me.

Agreed... Go for the RS then... love my B9 RS4

I’m not changing for at least a year, too much uncertainty about at the moment. And surprisingly not many great deals about, maybe in 6 months time when car sales have ground to a halt there may be something worth considering.

I’m just not prepared to treble my interest payments.

You've gone full circle mate. It was your first choice quite a while back.
As for the rear lights.. You could always get them retrofitted with little trouble I would think?
Good luck with whatever you decide.:thumbs up:

Too expensive mate.....but l would consider them if they where a bit cheaper..as l will be keeping this car.....so these would be the icing on the cake....good to know they're available cheers

Nice mate, love the TTS. Just need to decide on colour

Exclusive colour takes the car's RRP .....to £60k.....in my mind the TTS is not as common as the S3 on the roads....so less of an issue.....but if l do decide on an exclusive colour it would be in Mexico blue.......just has far more glow in its colour than Voodoo/turbo.....Riviera is too pale Jordan had a Riviera Blue M4 .....Nogaro is old fashioned.....TT does not suit Solar orange....too close to Pulse orange of which is a £575 option on it

Had a go in the new M440i today........lovely car inside and out....like the new larger grill gives it presence but let down by its alloys and Dakota leather...............very very fast car.....effortless power, it had....laser lights etc etc....but it was in a yuky grey much like Audis Chronos Grey

If you are going to spend well North of 40k then it might be worth asking the dealership to sort you out in some way.? You know the saying.. 'Don't ask don't get' it works for me ..... Most of the time..:whistle2: lol
When would you most likely be putting in an order?? Not going to hold you to it. Just asking out of interest.:icon thumright:

Any review I have watched said the 4 series doesn’t have the Dakota leather, the one I sat in certainly didn’t have it, it was much more like the merino leather.

At 12k miles per annum you’re looking at £10k for 24 months driving, that’s a tad steep.

Or you could buy a £10k second hand Golf and a warranty and sell it 2 years later for £6-7k

Exactly, I’ve got stuck in the pcp route before and it just doesn’t make sense to PCP or lease at those prices.

When I do finally decide what car to get it’s highly likely to be a 2nd hand outright purchase.

Well after much debate and coming extremely close to buying a second hand motor I took the plunge and ordered the new golf R on a lease.

I got it a little cheaper than that going direct to VW.

If I had known what I had know now I would probably have leased the new S3 when there were a couple of cheap deals knocking about but they have dried up and I needed to order as my current Golf R goes back soon.

Given its a lease I’ve not gone heavy with options, paint, wheels and winter pack. Will do the job for 3 years.

I get the whole lease/pcp/buy argument and it’s been done to death. Lease suites me so I’m
Happy

Although I have just found a lease deal on a new S3 which is slightly cheaper that the new Golf R.

I have no idea which one I prefer.... and I need to decide ASAP!

As I suspected, the S3 deal I spotted was wrong. Seemed cheap. Checked this morning at it was £70 a month more. Golf R it is, I have a mk 7.5R now so happy to trust the reviews and order it without a test drive

I’d recommend that you take a test drive. I currently own a mk6 Golf and fully expected to upgrade to a mk8 based on the reviews. However, I’ve now ordered an A3 after test driving the new Golf and not liking the layout of the new dash. Despite being an engineer and lover of all things techy, I found the displays and controls to be far less intuitive and easy to use compared to the 8Y.

Your never going to get a cheap S3 deal that'll match the Golf sport variants....this Golf 8 R is headed in a similar direction as its 7/7-5 predecessors VW will try and flood the personal lease market with it doesnt make it a bad car though....just makes it an expensive car on a PCP though

ln Years past if you seen a Golf 7/7-5 with 19s on it you knew it was on a pcp.......as leased cars wore them guff looking Matchbox car like 18 " alloys

13% off the G8 R which is rather good especially when the 19" upgraded alloys are a no cost option ATM....

Where did you see that deal? Particularly the free upgrade to 19'' wheels. Thanks.

Golf R has always been more of a drivers car, loved my 7R I had years back, great motor! Can’t wait to hear the reviews. What spec did you go for?

Thanks. My minimum spec for a G8R is Lapiz, 19" and Winter Pack which is just a few £'s over the £40K tax threshold and I seriously object to paying nearly £500 a year to tax any Golf even if it is a nice one.

I had this exact problem with my lease.

paint, wheels and winter took me over by about £150 or so. The cost of extra tax is passed on me.... so I need to put and extra £600 deposit on about £15 a month in.... or have a cold bum for about 3 mins a trip. I will have warm hands as the steering wheel is heated as standard.

So I’ve gone for the look (granted not to everyone’s taste) of the 19” and the blue. I’m sure an aftermarket spoiler will come out to finish the look.

l am almost certain Audi will put the 316 bhp variant in the S3 sooner rather later as they've already put it in the MY2021 TTS range

You still thinking about going TTS route mate? Or pricing and or APR holding you back
