As per the title, considering getting a revo map for my 3.2 now I have a full stainless system with sports cats.

I’m not after massive power gains or anything like that, just want it running to it optimum with what is fitted.

or should I get it mapped at r-tech?

many advice from previous owners?

I’d go r-tech, they’re incredibly knowledgeable and actually care about your car rather than some matey putting on a generic flash map.
If you’re planning on keeping the car it wouldn’t even be a debate in my mind

I agree with @Bryant1998 revo maps are good but they are generic where as nick at R-tech will custom map from scratch so hell tweak the car accordingly. Yea you may have the same engine and the same mods but every car has small variation in performance due to variable factors and wear and tear maintenance etc.

@Bryant1998 @e9_mustii agree with both your comments.

a r-tech map will be custom to my car and how it is running. They don’t list mapping the 3.2 on their website anymore so I think a call is in order.

the only thing about the revo is I can get it done pretty quickly. And it’s no by a matey but by a reputable vag workshop in the midlands.

depends on the price difference imo.
the 3.2 isnt tuneable like the tfsi engines are, so the differences between tuners is gonna be negligible.

Didjt realise it was a 3.2 slap a turbo on it first

don’t have a spare 2.5k lying around atm. It is being considered for the future, but it has enough go for the moment. Just want it running optimally.

As I said I’m not after gains, just running at its best/optimum. But you’re right it all comes down to cost v results.

Revo stage 1 is £299 so I’ll have to see what r-tech are.

Depending on the age and type RTech may not be able to map your car.
I know they can do the Mk 4 Golf R32 but I don’t think they do the Mk 5 R32. Worth a call but I’m betting they cannot. However, I’d be pleased if I am wrong.
I bet you are going to Midland VW, top place, I was there last Thursday with my S3.
There is some APR software available but you would need to find an APR dealer for that but it is more expensive than Revo.
Check out the graphs for each remap.

R-tech don't do the Mk5 R32 or the 3.2 Quattro, I've enquired for a mate last year.

No point in a custom map for the 3.2 imo unless you're running a supercharger or turbo. You'll probably get a max of 10 brake on this engine, so you might want to look at other improvement such as a rear ARB which at least you will notice the difference.

I’m not after bhp, just optimal running.

What does that mean though. Genuine question.

You've got a sports cat and stainless exhaust, but remapping it won't add extra power (or negligible). What would a remap achieve.
When tfsi owners add decats/sports cats, exhausts etc. Its just to allow for more power. If remapping the 3.2 won't gain bhp, what do you gain.

So that with the increased flow it’s fuelling correctly and is running as it should be. Any gain in bhp is a plus, but not the primary aim, though I suspect a few could be found.

There is a documented issue with the 3.2L engine with some lack of smoothness around 2K revs. There was an official software flash that could be obtained with some difficulty that smoothed everything out although some dealers did not even know about it if I remember correctly.
One of the main benefits of the remap is to do the same from an aftermarket point of view and maybe add a little bit of performance along the way.

@prt57. Yep software issue well known. I had mine flashed thanks to @DJAlix when I got the car.

car always felt like it was ‘surging’ if on constant throttle and wouldn’t idle if held at 2k rpm.

after re- reading I think phrased my question incorrectly.

I’m going to get the car checked, and if the mods have affected the fuelling and it needs fettling, what map should I go for?

revo or apr?

didn’t really think about my op properly as it’s pointless getting it remapped unless it needs it.

Pity you did not post this round Black Friday as APR had a 20% discount on software.
Comparing the APR and Revo figures the APR seems to hit the higher end.
We have 2 turbo cars with APR maps and both are very smooth and powerful. I know that Revo stopped developing the S3 software some time before APR and again the APR software produces better figures.

Cheers. I follow a guy who’s just had the apr mp on his tt. I’ll see how he gets on.

I would try Unitronic as IMHO that's the better tune for the 3.2. I have APR and my buddy has Unitronic and I am happier with his tune. Its not any faster or more powerful but feels smoother throughout the rev range. I do have HPA DSG tune and have their Haldex unit. This was the best bang for the buck and better than the ECU tune so look into it. As for the exhaust, I got rid of the post converter presilencer. On some 3.2 there are 2 and on others 1. Just a 12 inch pipe. For the premuffler resonator located in the middle of the exhaust, I took that out and changed it for a Vibrant 1792 resonator. The exhaust note is perfect now without any drone and quiet for DD but opens up a nice growl when pushing it.

If you're determined to map it, and if you're UK try a quantum map as they are fairly decent and cost effective for NA cars.

Just a few days ago I asked R Tech for my TT with the BUB engine and they told me they don't remap them, and they instead recommended Stealth, if that helps
