Hello new to the forum here. Im thinking of buying a used Audi. I have seen a really nice 2017 model with 47k km on the clock. It has the 1.0 engine with the 115hp. So i wanted to ask, whats the reliability on these cars-engines. Is it going to last ?

Where are you buying it from a main dealership or other source? If you get one that is not 3 years old you can extend the warranty for peace of mind as long as it's been serviced as and when it should have been.

Its from a used car dealership, not an Audi one. Just used cars hahah. I dont really care about the performance because i mainly drive around town. The main concern is that if a such a "premium" car is reliable ahhaha. Dont want to buy one and then have troubles with it...
If you do a lot of town driving i would highly recommend the s-tronic auto gearbox.
If you're concerned about reliability you'd be better with the auto. Had lots of problems with the manual A3 8V and since swapping to an s tronic I've had no problems at all.
Once you go auto you don’t go back.

Yea oh well. But i kinda prefer the manual hahah its personal taste i guess. But what about the engine is it reliable ?
why are you going for a 1.0 litre? If its for economy reasons then unless you drive it like a granny you are unlikely to get great returns. The reason being is the base engine is underpowered so it will be using the turbo a lot and then the economy will go out the window. It wont be bad don't get me wrong but it might not be what you hope for. A mate of mine had a 1.0 ecoboost ford which claimed 60mpg but he was getting more like 40. That said, he was one of those drivers who is constantly on and off the accelerator so the thing would have spent half its life spooling the turbo so I'm not surprised.
For poodling around town they are great, but if that's not most of your driving it might be better to go for a slightly bigger engine version.

Look its not so much about fuel economy . The problem is that i cant find many used A3's with the 1.5 petrol engine.Only i seem to find 1.6 TDI which doenst interest me because i dont do so many miles.And i also find 1.0 TFSI with the 116 hp. Dont know as i said i dont really care much about the performance , im more interested in the reliability. I guess the 1.5 is also reliable as the 1.0 ? Or not ?
Stay well clear of the 1.5 tsi. It is a fundamentally flawed engine. Just google 1,5 tsi kangaroo
Better choice than the 1.5 tsi kangaroo edition. I had a 1.5tsi leon fr 2018 from new and got rid of it a couple months back for an a3 2.0tdi, was an awful thing to drive and the “fix” they claim for it does not work.
Hmm so the 1.0 little turbo engine is a safer choice nice. Anything to point out about that engine ?
No idea haven’t drove one.
i believe it is a 3 cylinder engine so will sound a bit funky. Thats about it.

The engine does seem a bit small for the size of car so could be a little more stressed than a larger engine, but I haven't heard horror stories of early failure. Are there many around with 100k miles on the clock?

I dont think you will find anyone who has the 1.0 engine on here, I have not seen anyone tallking about it anyway.
If its just city driving only and its just to collect groceries and kids then it will probably be ok, it would even be ok on the motorway as well,
BUT..... Dont count on taking over other cars which can be dangerous if you need to move quickly, and the car will just be OK

Well yea i kinda love the A3 as a car from a young age.Well i could afford the 1.5 with the 150hp but i really struggle to find reliability posts about this engine also. Dont know im kinda divided between the two of them
Why don’t you look for a 1.4 TFSI, it’s the predecessor to the 1.5 TSI and the better of the 2 engines.
For the time being i dont see any 1.4 models for sale ahaha. I have seen one or two 1.5 and three-four 1.0.

Yea thats what im guessing also. Im just a bit worried about the reliability of VW group in general. I think the last years they have improved. Not sure though
Oh if your in Greece then yeah the 1.0 will be great due to some of the narrow streets and roads.

Haha yea we kinda have small rounds here. Not for high speeds. Umm im 23-24 years old. I kinda like to have a "connection" with the car so i prefer the manuals. Also im planning to keep the car for some years so the auto might need more money down the road for maintenance
Turbo charged engines by their very nature or more complex and there is more to go wrong. If you want something that will last a long time and is likely to be more reliable then don't get a turbo charged engine, get a normally aspirated one.
We have a 1.0 litre seat Ibiza (2016 plate) that my kids drive and I use some times. Its the non turbo version so 79bhp. Its a bit slow but is a great little car to drive in terms of handling and feel, more fun than the A3 I would say. The 3 cylinder engine sounds different but it doesn't sound bad in any way. Id be very happy driving that car day to day if it had a more powerful engine.
Well yes but all Audi a3 are turbocharged so what can you do about it? Haha
So guys what engine should I look for...I'm kinda torn between the 1.0 and the 1.5. I'm leaning more to the 1.0 but I dont know. What puts me off in the 1.5 is the reports for the kangaroo effect.

I can't really find the 1.4 engine in my country haha. Mostly diesels witch I'm not interested in and the 1.0 tsi.
