just ordered a turbo blue sportback to replace current 8V S3. Ticked a few options but not the silly ££ pack with auto park thingy.

Gutted couldn’t spec HUD, is it only on incoming Vortsprung or am I missing something?

cheers

It as as far as I know - I hate the Park Assist but only way you can get front parking sensors now (used to be a £250 upgrade) at least you get Bang & Olfusen

Considering there is only one model variant on the configurator first adopters of the new 8y are always going to be a bit in the dark...as far options go....it looks like Audi have only sent a specific spec of S3's to the UK so far....unofficially known as a launch model....19s,Matrix,B&O
**** knows what will be on the Vorsprung models.....but at £8000 more than the basic they'll be a lot on it but knowing Audi you'll still need to tick a few ££ boxes to get all the options

Definitely knowing Audi - I’ve got friends who have a Q5 and looking to get a new one but Memory seats only an option on the Vorsprung version- you can have electric
but not memory - why!! How difficult is it to
include that option - even the A3 can now how have electric memory seats

For me electric seats are utterly useless and a waste of money....had 2 cars with them not through choice they came with it....used it once in both cars then never again the entire period l owned them

oh I totally agree, never ordered them myself as have to move the seat between me and the wife to get in and out of the car in the garage which is quite tight and they are to slow rather than the manual lever and if I picked up her key as she’s shorter I can’t then get in the car - nothing to do with me being larger than I should be lol

Out of interest I just configured an S3 and then added the extras that the Vorsprung gives you and the only things left to add that aren't standard on the Vorsprung are Red Brake Calipers and Front and Rear Side Airbags - Plus the Vorsprung gives you Head Up Display and VC+ which you can't option on the standard S3 - Without the Calipers and Airbags but including metallic paint option on the road price is £45,175 - adding exclusive colour which I know you like and the other 2 options just under £48k!!

£48k for an A3 ... Audi are having a laugh surely.

I agree - The problem is that the standard S3 is £38,000 and you then add on options which can put it up if you tick everything, but some things aren't available yet like the bigger Virtual Cockpit and Electronic Suspension - The Vorsprung has these and more that you may not want - No middle ground really

Unfortunately Audi love everything in packs these days or throw it all on a specific model - An Edition 1 S3 would be a good compromise I think and it available in Germany, but whether we get it here I don't know

And that is the issue with so many nowadays (not just Audi). Cars are £37-£38k and then when you add only a few options you are into the luxury road tax bracket, so then may as well go higher. My Q5 a few years back was a lowing spec sline, but still paid the tax...#naive and always regretted it, so when I got the X3 loaded it up.

And now I am enjoying not paying any road tax...let’s see how long I can last

As you can get a Warranty on an Audi for many years after the original warranty expires I wonder why more people don’t keep cars longer? Our 11 year old TT is probably worth 9/10 months depreciation on a new one. 50k miles and absolutely full history. When I see people spending hundreds a month on a PCP and ending up with nothing it makes me wonder where people’s priorities are. Just a challenge for discussion?

Everyone is different, and have different priorities. I change my car every 3 or 4 years because technology and engineering moves on. Frankly I couldn’t drive a 10 or 11 year old car because I am used to a modern interior with up to date technology.

The only difference with this for me is if you are talking about classics like a air cooled Porsche or a classic Ferrari, I have absolutely no desire to hold on to a decade old mass produced car like a TT.

Some people like to spend their money on cars, some don’t. I see plenty of people living right at their means paying a massive mortgage on a massive house they don’t need either, to me this makes no sense but it does to them.

Yes I too like modern stuff and see my signature. B9 RS4 and Targa4S coming but my point is there are many motoring on a budget and I see no significant difference between a 3 year old S3 with a Warranty and a new one apart form saving shed loads of cash so they can own a classic too if they want to. Arguably an old TT is a future classic and certainly is no hardship to drive on 400 mile round trips, climate zircon, comfy seats good music system.. Bit like saying I don't want to drive around in a Mk 7 Golf anymore because there is a Mk 8 with more kit...

All very well, but extended warranties are not always cheap, and often have limitations original factory warranty doesn’t. I too have no desire to drive an old car, and likewise not really a fan of “classics” anyway.

You talk about people wasting £500 a month on cars etc, but then you are buying a £115k+ targa s...go figure

The only way I keep a car out of the original warranty is if I'd purchased the warranty at the time of ordering because it's cheaper and is a full extension of the manufacturers warranty i.e 4 years 75K miles (£295) or 5 years 90k miles (£630) - You wouldn't be able to get them for that price at the end of the standard 3 years that's for sure

I like to change my car every 2/3 years so I'm not out of warranty and whilst it's usually worth something towards the next one - Everybody is different but you do need to make sure you don't skint yourself just to get the next better model.

With regards to RGBARGEE's comments I understand what you are saying, but you have to remember you have 2 or 3 cars and therefore 5k a year on the TT is excellent, but if it's your only car, used everyday that's probably not achievable and therefore does lose it's value with wear and tear

My wife and I only really need one car and therefore spend a little more getting the one we want - Not having children helps lol

Chris 4410 summed it up. We are all different, we all have different priorities. If I was skint I wouldn’t be buying a new S3 I would be running a 3 year old with most modern technology. As for Targa4S , I have a once in a lifetime chance to run one for a year or two. Big discount and currently selling at £20k premium due to short supply. Brexit Bolloxcks adding to this. I anticipate being able to run it for a year experiencing little or no depreciation. Nowt wrong with that!

I agree! Not anticipating the TT costing us £5k a year. We paid little more than that a year ago and could probably sell her for what we paid. My point is that you can buy outright a decent usable daily driver with a warranty for what is less than a years PCP payments. I am just challenging some people’s priorities and for me it’s never been losing thousands on a car just because it’s new. Bizarrely many seem to adorn their latest bling with Vanity plates to disguise the age anyway!

Miami Blue is a lovely colour but I’m told a problem colour for Porsche and has been discontinued. Was tempted with Gentian Blue but not 100% so Jet Black with silver Targa hoop! Forgot to mention ventilated seats which were a must have option for our EU trips. Plus LED and storage etc .As you will know Porsche options are worse than Audi. Easy to spend £15-20k+ Extra. Got a good discount though!
EU trips? Surely you mean Europe ;)

I would find it very difficult to go back significantly in term of a much older car.

I would have previously covered about 15k a year, so by the time the car was 3 or 4 years old it had quite a bit ot mileage on it which also prompted a change.

I understand. We are lucky to generally have 3 or 4 cars. One classic, goes up in value. One older run around ( currently a TT), an Estate or hatch and a fun car.. reckon I lose less than £500 a month on all of them) .. takes a bit of effort buying and selling but negotiating has formed a large part of my career and I love it, others can easily lose £500 a month running one car. Horses for courses but I cannot understand why a car should cost the same per month as a £250k mortgage!

Totally agree (although to be fair the mortgage is over 25/30 years to achieve £500 per month) and with the interest rate so low, the APR figures are dreadful really, but so many discounts at the moment if you take out or renew pcp deals - I did just for interest look at a pcp deal and then thought get a loan at a lower rate and pay off in 14 days, but whilst loans were 3.5% (still high) they still work out more as the others have a balloon payment and tried the Halifax PCP deal with the balloon but they like more per month and a lower balloon so in the end monthly wise the figures were actually worse which is what people look at generally.

I think you just have to do what works for you and I've always gone along the rule no one is lending it to me for nothing, so work with a figure that fits my budget and don't overstretch - There's no right or wrong with these situations in my opinion

I think the 'trick' with Loans is to take them out over a longer period of time to keep monthly repayments low and estimate/calculate your desired 'balloon' amount outstanding at the end of say 3 years, PCP financiers in current climate are being very cautious, hence high rates and low estimated residual values. As an EXAMPLE ONLY £20K over 3 years will have decreasing interest paid due to decreasing capital still owed on a month by month basis , payments are usually the same for the whole term and if we use say 3% as an example figure I would expect at the beginning it would probably be circa £300 a month over 7 years with a repayment of circa £50/60 interest at the outset so First year capital reduction of say £240/250pm x12 or circa 3K, more in years 2 and 3 so probably a £20k loan will have circa 50/55% outstanding (£10/11k) after 3 years. To be absolutely sure check the calculators or a proper finance advisor. Two schools of thought here, If you know what you want you can prove anything to the missus/partner or if you are very cautious and are happy to pay more than you need for security a PCP may be safer.

Thanks, a decision that took some doing. Looked at R8, AM Vantage and DB11, Lamborghini Hurricane and assorted Porsche including a 2018 997.2 Turbo S... very tempted but in the end £1000 insurance vs £400 and older tech tempted me to look at new. The 992 is superb, trouble with buying new is having to spec it yourself!!
