Hi All

Just thought I'd share a recent experience with you all as my '2016 B9 Avant Quattro TDI' is currently at my Audi dealership having some works done.

Generally and touch wood its been solid and a joy to own (for nearly 2 years) I'd say that this is the first real issue I've had to take it in get resolved, and well worth the Extended Warranty I've paid for.
  • Anyway .. Topped up diesel Saturday, immediate Amber Engine mgmt light on way home, and eventually an AdBlue Fault message just as I pull into my road: Image attached.
  • Audi Roadside technician called yesterday morning to diagnose fault and codes, all point to issues with the AdBlue Control unit (Fault codes P208D, P21CA, P208c) referred to dealership.
  • Booked into local Audi Dealership the very same day and they have the part on order to be replaced tomorrow morning - importantly covered by the warranty, as you'd expect but always nice to be told :)
Anyway just thought i'd share my experiences .. looking forward to having her back.

Will let you know how things progress. Cheers,

How much do you pay for your warranty if you don't mind me asking?

not at all, I pay monthly and opted for the Audi 'All Component' cover, is about £40 a month for 12 months.

There is a diluted option and I'm sure paying off in one go would be cheaper.

For peace of mind I'm cool with that.

Oh nice. I am thinking of getting an A4 very soon. It would be a good upgrade from my MK7 VW golf. Would you recommend for me to get the car from an Audi dealership or from an Independent dealer?

That's your call mate, whatever I say someone else will have another opinion.

I guess it depends of price of the car, dealer reputation and warranty quality.

Oh alright. That's cool. Thank you for that.

Quick update on this, I picked up the car last weds so the dealership managed to fix the issue pretty quickly.

Apparently the AdBlue Control unit was indeed faulty and therefore needed to be replaced. The service guy informed me it wouldve been a £450 part and ultimately a £600-£700 bill if I'd have had to pay. kinda what I expected.

anyway all sorted now :)

Wonderful news. Hopefully it's all smooth now

Glad you got sorted. More people need to have this checked. Saved a bundle.

Just got engine light on today, after yesterday i top up ad blue. To be honest i top up with ad blue from the petrol station, but is not the first time i am doing that.
I read the faults, and got me just one P21CA.
I mention i do not have warranty anymore, just ended in november last year.

Sounds like it could possibly be the same issue then based on the symptom and the fault code.

let us know how things go.

This has happened to me both times I let the adblue warning get below 1000 miles (might have been closer to 800 miles?), engine light on, adblue fault. Put adblue in and both cleared themselves very shortly after.

Hi, I just got same fault on mine. Did you get it resolved?

P21CA. "Low voltage supply reductant control module J880". It also shows 0.00 voltage terminal 30A. I checked J880 module connector and both terminal 30s have 12v voltage. CEL is on and also this adblue fault. I am thinking that module is faulty

Not yet, one service told me is the adblue pump faulty and have to be replaced. But i will try another service to see if is the same thing they saying.
As far as i read online, you are right, p21ca is low voltage control module, nothing to have with the pump.
Will look soon for a second opinion.

Have you resolved it yet?
Mine still not resolved yet, no free time at this moment. Looking forward next week maybe.

I am waiting new reductant control module to arrive during next week. I am pretty sure that control module is faulty.

New module from local dealer is +500 euros and I have heard that they may change the module for upgraded version and upgraded version of control module needs new upgraded tank and pump assembly: 2000 euros total with labor. I ordered used module (26k miles) of same version that I had so I hope it will solve the problem for now. Used part was only 90 euros including shipping.

If this doesn't solve the problem then I'll take it to local dealer and pay whatever I need to get it fixed..

Good news! New module arrived today and I replaced the old one with it and yellow adblue s*it was immidiately gone from instrument cluster. CEL was still on and needed to clear with VCDS. Checked the adblue fill level with VCDS and it showed 98% which I believe was true because I had filled 20 litres of adblue after problem started so I did not carry out adblue adaptation

Great news. Tuesday my module is coming aswell. I hope that will resolve the problem.
How much did you paid for module?

No sooner than a few days after reading this thread I have the same issue

Booked in with Audi in a couple of weeks, going to run it for a few miles in the meantime and hope it clears itself, as I have seen reports of happening before.

I've gone from doing 1.5k miles per month to less than 100 a month in the last year for obvious reasons, so the countdown is no great concern to me. I have the miles and time to experiment.

I wonder if barely using the car has caused it, as ad blue can crystallise over time? Brimmed the tank, and hoping it will clear itself before the booking

I spoke too soon in my post earlier in this thread, it DID clear itself but came back, extended warranty covered in full, new control unit, etc. Chap at Warrington Audi reckoned it would have been an approx £1500 bill. Warranty paid for itself in one claim.

Exactly what happened with me fella!

Hi, to those who have ordered second hand modules, does the part number need to be exactly the same as the one you had before, because there are a few different part numbers and I do not know if they are interchangable. For example my part number is 4M0907355 and there are also 4M0907355B and 4M0907355D

Hi, do you have any update since you posted this? I have had the same adblue issue. Tank, pump and sensors were changed but there was still a fault - turned out that I needed a new control module to match the new pump since the new pump has been updated. Control module part number I need is 4M0907355E according to the independent Audi specialist I took the car to. Part has been on back order for 4 months with no sign of it arriving and I only have 200 miles on countdown! Very frustrating as I only bought the car in April. 65 plate so no Audi warranty.

As far as i know, because i had exactly same problem, the last letter of the part number is just about the software version, so if you have the part 4M0907355D, you will have just to update it to the latest software available from Audi to make it just like 4M0907355E. The parts coming from factory with 4M0907355E menas already have the latest software at that point already included.

Hi, have you received the adblue control unit 4m0907355e part or are you still waiting for Audi to make? I have same situation as you (almost 5 months and no sign of this part when it will arrive),

I am having the same issue with my Audi a5 there's no signs of any part and i have a couple of hundred miles left till no start. This seems to be a common fault and i am pushing for them to be on a recall as i don't think any vehicle of 5 years old warrants a 2+ grand repair bill. Is everyone that has this fault logging it as a complaint with the main Audi customer service department?

have they offered any help with a vehicle whilst your waiting for the part i'm in the same situation one was ordered may and still no sign and every garage i speak to have 4 or 5 audi's waiting with the same fault i think they should be on a recall?

5 months? What are Audi saying, and what are doing meantime?

They replied there are currently no this part's raw material and chip, still waiting the back to order.

they do nothing, no any help. This adblue control unit can not find anywhere out of Audi, so they said the best solution is waiting. So sad.

Hello! I also had a problem with the AdBlue control module, and I ordered a new module with the same part number as the old one. When replacing a new module, does it need to be programmed?
Thank you!

Brother has been waiting since August for this part. He's number 2 in queue out of 3 at Audi Portadown. Apparently person in number 1 has been waiting since May.

What on earth can be in this part that the entire country is waiting for?

Can we remove AdBlue stuff with a remap of the ECU perhaps? I see that suggested on a local forum I'm on.

Did your brother get his part? My car is currently at Audi waiting on the same parts, really struggling to speak to the service manager about waiting times.

Funny, he just messaged me 30mins ago to say his car is ready for collection. A lot of calls from him to Audi UK that were not responded to when asked for a callback from a manager or whatever to help escalate. Hope you get moving. His car was with Audi (after the independent dealer dropped it off to them) since Aug 22, to give an idea of timescale. Truly terrible.
