My Belated build thread

No problem mate.
He was looking £600 for it not sure if that's good or not.

Thanks mate, to be honest I think it’ll be to big for my setup like PT mentioned. So I’ll go with a 1.5” from Bill. Good price though.....

Would be good to see how the “Boost advisor” compares to real world figures. I know there are loads of variables..... but still.

I suspect it would need more boost than they suggest to reach those figures taking into account pumping losses through the charge system and engine itself...

Interestingly they spec'd a 3576 so same turbine size but smaller comp wheel than my 3582 (same comp wheel size as a 3076 essentially)... not compared the compressor maps though..

When ur breaking the s3 you have could you see if you can get the trim for the top of the windscreen out. I've tried to get a new one and audi said it was discontinued at the start of the year and the one in my car is perished and needs replacing.

Hi mate, I’m not breaking my S3, I’m breaking the A3. Which trim are you thinking of? If it’s the same on the A3 then your welcome to it. Dunno when Badger5 are starting work on the cars, they’ve been really hectic moment. Soon hopefully.

Not sure if there the same mate I just thought you where in the middle of the breaking at the minute for some reason.
I've actually just started a new thread as there is 2 in 2 different TPS places in England but they wont sell to the public.
Thanks anyway mate

It’ll be getting broken soon hopefully mate, I’ll be listing all the parts on here once they are off. The A3 is at Badger5 place, soon as they can start my next build they’ll be on it. Already sold my engine that’s in my S3! Even though it’s still in the car and I’m still driving it.

If they are the same part then like I said your welcome to it.

Ah crap... yeah not ideal, guess that means you’ll need to get the windscreen out and put back in? Surely the windscreen being sealed would prevent that from happening though?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's not sealed correctly as the sides aren't in the runners properly either but the strip at the top will need replacing so need that part 1st. Hopefully get one sorted in a couple of days

Ahhh I see, well hope you have some luck with TPS ask TJ he orders quite a lot from there. Sorry I can’t help you out this time mate.

since Covid started I’ve not had anything from them as they bring really strict because they were only doing deliveries, I got a local garage to order some bits for me and gave them
A few quid extra for a drink
For the sake of £12 I was going to register as a ltd mobile mechanic company just to u could open an account but they also Want letter head and business cards and will only deliver to that one address

Brilliant news mate very excited for you.
That's a impressive list of parts and it will certainly drain the bank account lol.
Look forward to see any pictures. Any idea on how long its supposed to take or is just a case of when it's done it's done?

It’s not as bad as you think, bare in mind I bought that A3 with the stroker engine in it, so with selling all my parts it works out quite well. Time wise I don’t know but roughly mid to late November.

Should be very tasty for sure! Be good to see what it’s torque onset will be like with that turbo especially for when I do the odd track day, pulling out of corners and so on.

So here is a a couple pictures of my custom one off carbon fibre oil catch tank. This originally came off a drag Mitsubishi Evo car. Serious bit of kit, the only thing I’m struggling with is distinguishing the size of the big AN fitting, the original owner seemed to think it was AN16 however now I’m measuring everything up ready to buy parts...... this seems to be more like AN20!

I’ve measured the internal size and it’s 26-27mm where as an AN16 is around 22mm.

Can anyone confirm that I’m on the right tracks here?

Thanks dude, yeah it’s real nice.... not baffled which is odd! That’s said I’ve figured out a good get around for that, I’ll post up pics showing that next week.

I’ve ordered a AN16/AN20 double ended spanner for £5 this will confirm which it is, I’ll be needing the spanner anyway. Once that’s confirmed I’ll go about ordering the rest of the fittings

Little update today, more to follow tomorrow. I collected my 02M 6 Speed gearbox I’m getting sent down to Gas&Gears to get built up.

5450c1f137e9f68f618110c48e4f84b0.jpg

Gave it a bit of a clean before taking it over to Badger5, who are kindly getting it transported to Gas&Gears for me along with my other gearboxes in part ex.

17af82db4c115e94a8aad593c134f450.jpg

I’ve polished this up so you guys can see it more clearly, but as you can see.... this isn’t a gearbox that’s normally associated with the 1.8t 20v engines! A 02M 6 Speed Quattro (FEK Code) gearbox naturally resides in either an A3, Golf or Bora 1.9TDi.

The reason why I’ve decided to go with this gearbox is because it has slightly taller final gear ratios. 3.1 and 3.9. This will mean I should be able to potter around in 6th gear doing 70mph on the motorway @ 2200rpm. Instead of 3000-3200rpm. Better fuel economy and not so noisy.....

It also means I will achieve 65-68mph in second easily, with the help of a 8200-8400rpm redline. Then from 3rd gear onward I’ll be in dog box mode with the monster performance gears.

Yeah couldn’t imagine just putting it in a garage for years. It’s my weekend car, occasionally I’ll take it to work but that’s a 170 mile round trip each day. Don’t fancy clocking up the miles on it just for the sake of it.

So today I dropped off my gearbox at Badger5 and had a good catch up with all the guys. Took a couple pics of the G30-770 which turned up a couple days ago.

This is a picture of my G30-770 next to a GTX3076r Gen II on the right.
88e486646fd81a83fc33f1ff47138ead.jpg

Very very similarly sized however the G30-770 should yield better spool, more bhp, etc. The G30-770 has a bigger compressor wheel, slightly bigger compressor housing and a compact but wider turbo housing.

Looking forward to how this performs!

Also further discussions with the guys, we’ve decided to go 3.5” downpipe instead of 3” which will then mate up to a 3.5” Zinram exhaust I’ve just ordered as such my 3” Zinram exhaust will go up for sale.

Turbo looks shiny! Be interesting to see how it performs compared to the older tech.

I'd be keen to buy the Zinram exhaust, was looking to buy one direct anyways, give me a PM when you do decide to sell it :)

Wellllll...... my car being the problem child that it always has been. Didn’t go as completely to plan as we had expected.
56cea48e95869205d18c41eaf31985d4.jpg

Arrived at Badger5 to undergo a few changes prior to mapping in the DirectPort meth injection. One of which was to change out my TIP as I wasn’t plumbing anything into it other than the DV.

The pipework I had brought 90mm was proving difficult to fit because of the angles, etc.

But Bill and the boys being awesome, had some odds and ends laying around to make a 4” TIP for me. Welded up a nice bracket to hold it all in place and machined up and welded a 4” section onto the back of my velocity stack which was only 3.5” to mate up with the new pipework. Nathan did an awesome job, you wouldn’t tell that any fab work.

Also the guys drilled and taped a CM1 nozzle into the turbo compressor housing at the neck.

248b4d261532ef1e548b1a7e4806b6ad.jpg

With it all wired into the Ignitron ECU. So we had full control of what it was doing. We could easily move it to come in when we wanted.

However........ it did absolutely nothing! Not a bean, Lambda wasn’t showing any additional fuel being there so we couldn’t adjust anything. We ran out of dyno time, but we will be revisiting it and getting a better understanding why it’s not playing ball.

I’m going to run different levels of meth 80/20 ratio’s and do some logging, see what’s occurring.

Determined to get to the bottom of it and get a better understanding of what makes it more efficient. Nice little project.

Hopefully shedding some light and assisting others in a similar situation.

Any progress on the wmi as to why you wasn't seeing anything over the duel nozzle set up Ash?

Hi mate,

No update on this I’m afraid. I’ve put it on the back burning now I’m going in a whole new direction! I’ll get to the bottom of it, but chances are I just need to run 80/20 meth instead of 50/50. Maybe look into the timing of when the meth is engaged as well, moving the solenoid closer, etc.

So some updates on the build

Engine on its way out on the S3, didn’t take long!

And...... it’s out! So my Built S3 is now gone to its new home in an Audi TT. It was completely stripped to bare engine and I swapped out the rocker covers as I’m keeping my AGN rocker cover.

Next in line was the A3 Stroker, front off.....

And shortly after.......

My new S3 engine out and ready to be pulled apart to get it to the next level!

Then stripped all the parts off the A3 and S3 that I won’t be using ready to be sold! I will list them all with some pictures in the next week when I get time.

Goodbye A3 you have served a purpose, shame see it go, very clean car for its age.

Small update today guys....

I’ve taken delivery of my CAE Shifter this morning, looks amazing, awesome build quality and surprisingly light weight!

The one I’ve bought is the under mounted one, which means that it’ll use the original positioning of the cables. The other version which mounts inside the car you have to drill into the bulkhead to feed the cables.

Hopefully this will be OEM+ rather than race car as I want to retain most of my interior.

I bought the additional metal bracket for holding the new CAE HD cables and the counter weight adjustable thingy which attaches the cables to the gearbox.

I do like the pole positions to be fair..... but I have been told by many that they are really uncomfortable. So I’m still looking at my options
