Keyless entry as standard??

Hi there guys
I’m new here I was hoping someone could help a brother out here
I’m planning to get an Audi s3 (like 2017) with the facelift lights etc.
My question is do S3s come with keyless entry as standard? I’m worried about that as thieves have those boxes that scan and replicate your key and then drive off. I’d rather not take the chance (plus I personally prefer turning the engine over)
If they have keyless how would you tell(e.g. start button etc)

No S3's don't come with keyless (or advanced key as its known) as standard.
I however wouldn't buy a car without it now as my last 2 cars have been keyless and I just prefer the convenience.
I'd also add whenever a car is posted up as stolen, the first comments are "was it keyless" and then its "I'd never buy a car with keyless entry!" When in fact its never the reason why the car was taken.
Id say get what you want and cover the car with gap, you could always invest in a stoplock anyway if needed.

Button with "start engine stop"on the centre console next to the gear stick/selector.

For people who feel the need to carry around a massive bunch of keys which can damage your ignition barrel long term with the annoyance of dangling on your leg whilst driving if plugged into your steering column.
Some people keep their key-less entry fob separate and put it in a special little metal bag or box to foil the scanners.

As Ju says, buy what you want and cover it with gap if you are worried. But if you're going to worry about your car being stolen, an S3 maybe isn't the car for you.

I asked the same sort of question on this very forum when I was looking. I initially wanted one with keyless entry and if it didn’t have it it was a deal breaker. The general consensus was that they’re not often spec’d with them because of the concerns over theft, when I thought about it it changed my opinion and it had to be a physical key. It’s personal preference, buy what you feel comfortable with.

S3’s are targeted more than most others, there’s no getting around that, there’s certain parts of the country I wouldn’t own one, personally, but it’s all down to how you perceive the risk to be. Good luck!!

Not true. My S5 has that but doesn't have keyless entry. You'd tell by having a button on the door handle.

We are talking about an S3 though here and so the start button is relevant to the original question.
The door handles all have the square recess too wether keyless or not so you cant tell from that

Apart from the start button by the gearstick, there is no ignition key slot on the steering column - just a sonar/WiFi style logo.

To begin with, it annoyed me having keyless entry and start, but I wouldn't go back now. Best part is when you're carrying loads of shopping to the boot you don't have to press your key fob to unlock the car!!

In absolute terms, I use the fob to get in my car and the key to start it, so that could be deemed "keyless" entry. I just have the inconvenience of pressing a button on the fob to unlock and gain entry to the car.

The OP's worry was having a flawed system that could relatively easily enable his car to be opened, started and driven away off his drive whilst he is soundly asleep with the fob safely locked away in his house. General understanding is that with readily available boxes of electronic tricks and a bit of know-how the fob's signal can be intercepted, then re-transmitted to the car which presents a security risk. This worries some people.
I'd rather the thieves do this though than smash their way into my house to look for the keys.

Keyless cars have the button on the door handle no? Which you press to lock it? All cars would have the recess yes but that's different to an actual button.

No, no button as such, just the touch sensitive recess to lock.
You unlock by touching the rear of the handle. No physical buttons at all

Same on mine.. No buttons to press other than the start/stop button. Just pull on either front door handles and it unlocks the car.
What makes me 'chuckle' is they supply the key fob with an actual key folded in it yet there is no physical lock to put it in???

You’d still need the physical key to unlock a door should the battery be flat.

Went out to check my car just now because you casted doubt in my mind. lol
There is no physical lock to put the key in. The only thing I can think of as I'm sure I read it somewhere is you can remove the plastic cover on the car handle and there will be a lock underneath??? I'm not going to try and remove any trim to find out. ha ha

I put my car key in one of those RF ID blocking pouches, and I also use a stoplock on the steering wheel. My neighbours think I’m a bit crazy but I’ve heard too many stories of keyless cars being stolen. The stoplock should be a good visual deterrent and the security light on the wall also. I’ve never had any issues.

Keyless/Advanced key would be the last options to prioritise if l where in the market for a used 2017 S3 as there are far better options to look for on a S3, l have every option bar it....Intentionally done....lazy barstewards option or just call me fashioned lol

Everybody has their own "musts". OP, buy a car with keyless if that's what you want and you feel comfortable with. Most importantly, post a picture when/if you find one!

My 2018 S3 did not have the advanced key option, so being used to a full keyless system on my 3 previous cars I initially found it a chore having to go back to using a conventional key to start my car. However this feeling quickly passed and I found it no problem using a key again.
My present car has a standard keyless system so I am back to enjoying the convenience.
With any keyless system my fob is never removed from my pocket...and I do not understand people who place it inside their car somewhere while driving because to my mind this is asking for trouble.
I always take precautions by putting my fob inside a faraday pouch as soon as I am back in my house. The same goes for my spare which permanently lives inside one.

Reading this thread and watching a YouTube video I had no idea we could lock our cars with our finger tips when the key is in your pocket!! I’ve been using the key fob button the whole time!!! :-D

I think if I’m not wrong then it’s not a standard thing for keyless. I was going to put steering lock anyway but still just wanted to know. Prefer the old school way where the key was literally KEY.
