Bye Bye S3

'Proof in the pudding' that used car prices are on the up......
My S3 which was part ex'd in the 2nd week of August was put up for sale for £22995. I just noticed today that it's for sale at same garage for £24495.
According to Autotrader that's £1295 above market value.

Personal opinion. I hated it. Wife wasn’t too keen so sold it. I have an RS4 B9 and found the SUV Q3 Sportback looked ok was comfortable stationary but after S3 (daily driver) was not to my liking at all. Lane assist horrible, adaptive cruise frustrations, and handled like a *it on a trampoline..

I looked at a couple of 14 and 15 plate RSQ3's before the Cupra. I never got to test drive one due to Covid. I say the main attraction for them is the engine. To be fair I don't mind the look of them even the new shape is growing on me. Unfortunately the price puts me off a lot lol
If Audi had a Q3 based on the S3 running gear(power ect) I reckon they will outsell the RS version all day which is probably why they don't make one?
I still reckon bang for buck the Cupra is better than the RSQ3:chuncky:

When your pushed into an SUV the Ateca does make a lot of sense compared to what else is available around the £30k market
The original RSQ3 has a great engine but is still basically a Q3 spec wise. The 8R SQ5 also has a great engine for a diesel and is a step up on the Q3 regards quality but is basically a 10 year old platform.
The Ateca comes with similar performance but is much more up to date as a package.
You could go for a T Roc R if the more compact size fits but that's still north of £30 with less spec and the upcoming Tiguan R will be nearer new RSQ3 money.
Lifes all about choices, its what makes it interesting

The earlier RSQ3 was a better prospect than the current version due in my opinion to fewer pointless gizmos. Even so, I reckon an A3 or 4 based performance model is far better than the SUV Q variants.

Really was it that bad ? might just end up keeping my current S3 longer .

A lot of money for the RS. Must have been well spec'd for that price? Given the money it would probably be on my list but at that price there are a lot more choices on the market probably for a lot less.?

Cars are a personal thing! To me it was that bad. Not a bad car as such but after S3/ RS3 and current RS4 I thought it was a big let down. Nasty touch screen dash, poor handling, mediocre performance and handling. 3/10 whereas 8v S3 was 7/10 .

I think it had every option apart from a tow bar . Totally agree there is more choice out there for less .

Must be .. The Q3 Vorsprung we had briefly had all sorts of useless (IMHO) Tech. The only advantage buying a Vorspung or other 'loaded with options' version is that here in the UK the residual value is calculated on base price. So, as a generalisation £10k worth of extras is worth very little on resale whereas a £10k more expensive base car will verbally be worth £5-6k more on resale after say 3 years. Never that simple.. I understand that Red cars are hard to sell, red seats even harder and Turbo blue is becoming a 'fad' colour which may go the same way. Love Turbo Blue on a feature wall in y bathroom but not on a car.

TheRsq3 and Rsq3 are niche models...so l would expect Audi not to sell many....keeping residuals high, the sportback design is very similar to BMW's X4 and l find that car unattractive as well
The RS Brand is becoming Diluted in my opinion ....plus the fact RSQ3 aint any faster than an S3 ....

The RS brand does appear to be diluted. An RSQ3 is just ridiculous. An SUV that doesn't handle that well IMHO is not a lot of fun to be in when pushed hard.. ditto Range Rovers and all the other jumped up SUV's totally pointless IMHO.

The thing is I would rather have an RS3 over my SQ5 anyday, as you say dynamically they will never be able to match the handling of a sporty saloon/hatchback....even though the original RSQ3 was said to be entertaining to drive and no slouch in the performance guise!

My partner is almost wheelchair bound and its a struggle for her to get in and out of a normal car, hence the SUV. Now that we have it, I really enjoy the ease of access and comfortable seating position and I still get to drive around in a quick car. IMHO that's a decent compromise for me making the SUV not totally pointless

I totally agree with you..It's not as if you are driving everyday on a race track. To have an suv which is more practical than your saloon/hatchback S/RS and have it as fast makes perfect sense to me..In an ideal world I would have both suv and standard car but I ain't that wealthy so I have done the next best thing and got the suv...Simple man maths lol

Off topic I know but Cupra are going back into the BTCC next year.
When I had the original LCR back in 2004, I had some great times going to the races with the Seatcupra.net members as we got preferential parking inside all the venues, all organised by Seat!

Jeez! I wouldn't know. The last time I went Ivan Muller was driving Audi A4's and there were Volvo T5's estates running lol. It's been a while:blink:
Do you reckon Seat cupra .net will get involved with tickets ect next year?

Possibly, depends on the involvement from Cupra tbh.
I guess the enthusiasm from forum members will be there but its not somewhere I've frequented for a while.

No abuse. I really do not see the point of an SUV ... each to their own but.. poor handling , less fuel efficient, and slower. Why bother. Son in law looked at Tiguan bought Passat Estate. More practical and far more fun! Seems SUVs are the school run or geriatric vehicle of choice, probably down to marketing... all imho of course.

That's a bit harsh, some might ask what's the point of an RS, expensive, poor handling (compared to proper sport's cars) less fuel efficient and are they really that much quicker A to B?
Not me obviously - I still quite fancy an RS6 :)

Interesting. I did a side by side test of an Audi R8 and a Porsche Carrera 2S back in July, scoring each against my current (second) B9 RS4. The handling of the RWD 2S let it down badly, the R8 was lovely but completely impractical. ( and a manky colour) as for cost, first B9 RS4 ( March 2018- Sept 2019) lost only £300 a month in depreciation. This made me realise how inadequate the Q3 was after the S3 daily driver so I sold it. As for economy, I have just travelled over 400 miles averaging 30.1 mpg . RS models are worth serious consideration IMHO.

Is your son in law a geriatric? Seeing as he considered buying a Tiguan. Are you a geriatric seeing as you actually bought a Q3?? Is everyone who buys an suv a geriatric?? I'm not and I bought one.
As for slower and less fuel efficient...Yes on one count. It's slower top end by 3mph compared to my non geriatric S3 but would you really notice that...I don't think so. The Cupra Ateca I have is more fuel efficient than my non geriatric S3 43.5mpg compared to 40.4mpg...So really the only point use seem to go on about is that you don't like suv's...I think everyone gets that now.. .So please out of respect can you leave it at that.
I like a bit of 'banter' in posts but to be honest I'm finding your negative comments aim'd at my car offensive.

I did post ..’Seems Suvs’ are School run or geriatric’ Funny how people cannot be moved from what they have bought or voted for. We thought the Q3 would be a good replacement for my new wife’s Italian SUV and my S3. I should have know better. My family have 2 kids under 6 and the Tiguan did not have room for two pushchairs, whereas Passat Estate is huge. I am sure many love their SUVs but...my comments were ‘generalisations’ carefully worded I thought, using ‘seems’ rather than being categoric, however apologies if you don’t fit either demographic ( as I don’t!) Interested to know why you bought one over an S3.

Purely for the looks to be honest plus the benefits of the extra tech that came as standard over the S3.

Looks is a personal thing. Even Ann Widdecombe may appeal to someone! As for Tech, as posted some of the stuff the Vorsprung Q3 Sportback we had briefly was frustrating in reality!

@RGBARGEE -Bit of a generalisation there buddy
My X3's c02 emissions are 133 g/km
On a recent trip -
220 miles, majority motorway Driving at 75mph on cruise in adaptive mode
50.5mpg - 1/4 tank of devils own fuel used
Madness for a 2 tonne suv

Wouldn't say it was really less fuel efficient
Oh & I wouldn't buy a Tiguan either lol

RS4's are not for me but I wouldn't put the owners / drivers in a catergory (tho' it would be easy too)

Soneone's got to defend us Suv owners lol
What do you reckon @pburv ?

PS If I didn't have a 1800 kg caravan I wouldn't have a Suv TBH but needs must an all that :D

Don't think my car can manage anywhere near 50mpg :concern: but I ain't complaining:racer:
