Replaced Headlight Error Message

Hey guys, got a second hand headlight fitted last week, since then no full beam and the "cornering lights" (fog lights) aren't coming on when turning left or right. The symbol below came up with the error message "Audi adaptive light: system fault!" I had a mate run VCDS and it said that the left headlight wasn't recognised...

Has anyone else experienced this or knows a way to fix it?

From the dash, I’m guessing you have a MY13, possibly MY14.

Is this a retrofit (as well as replacement) or did you have Adaptive Xenons already? Is your new headlight a like for like replacement to the existing one?

You mention cornering fog light but the Adaptive Xenons have the cornering light as a separate bulb in the headlight cluster as opposed to the fog light.

Assuming you had Adaptive Xenons already, do either or both headlights do a little dance on startup?

It's an A3 8V 1.4 TFSI 150bhp 64 reg (2015) manual S-Line saloon.

I had adaptive bi-xenon headlights before and replaced it due to damage. As far as I can tell it's a like for like, only difference is they stated it came off an S3.

The vehicle from what I was aware turned on the relevant fog light when cornering and the actual headlights didn't move left or right. Before the error they used to go up and down but not currently.

I've still got the old headlight so if I'm unable to fix it through VCDS I was going to take the modules off from underneath and swap them over failing anything else.

Might be component protection. If the old headlight electronics were fine I would swap them over then the car wouldn’t know you replaced the headlight.
would also get it to somewhere like a mot station and make sure the beam is pointing right as you don’t want to blind others.

If they didn’t dance left and right (admittedly not to the extent as up and down) then I wonder if they were Adaptive.

If you have not swapped over the modules from the old headlight to the new then do it, else you will need to parameteris, code and adapt the replacement modules. VCDS cannot do this.

Thank you, this makes sense. I'll get the bumper off tomorrow and plug in the old headlight. If that clears the error then I'll swap the modules over and fingers crossed it will be that simple!

Turns out it was not the same headlight which was why it was throwing up the errors FYI.
