Hmmm just had a look at the online stuff and then compared it to my 2017 FL model. So about 1.5 inches longer and slightly less than an inch wider or higher. The boot appears to be smaller? It also appears to be fractionally slower. I will wait until I see one for real and get a chance to drive it, but it's not got off to a good start. I was hoping for a bit more boot space which is the only bit on my current car that's not ideal.

wow - sold my S3 just over a year ago, just came on here to see what the thoughts are on it's replacement. I must sat i think it's very disappointing - worse cabin by the looks of it - crap touch screen. No quicker then the old version. No 3 door (looks crap and blingly). This generaration of cars are real step backwards for Audi IMO.

To be fair they scrapped the 3 door on the facelift model late 2017 as not a big enough seller - Touchscreen unfortunately that's progress and it's expected now especially by the younger generation - I'm not fussed either way really

Shame that the Tiptronic option has gone, so only paddles for manual mode and if you leave it for a while it goes back to standard auto whereas Tiptronic stayed in manual.

I'm not sure on the side skirts bit, but that is on the S-Line upwards anyway albeit in a grey rather than silver on the S3 - Quite a few cars are starting to do this now.

The return to the same power as the facelift pre Petrol Filter is a little strange as it had been rumoured at 333bhp

With regards to the touch screen, I don't think it is progress, it's a backwards step as it's less usable then the interaction method that was there before. I suspect it's just a cost-cutting measure.

I know what you mean, but what I meant was it's expected like Phones and Tablets etc - The amount of people who used to drive our Mercedes A Class pool car and get in and start stabbing at the tablet they'd bolted on last minute

I do like the 8V MMI Wheel but I suppose if they don't change it and everybody else is people will start saying the Audi are using such old tech - You know how it goes these days

It feels a bit like when VW went from the mk5 to mk6 Golf GTi as more of a reskin/facelift than a whole new and improved car. I still want to wait and see one in the metal and drive and then decide if its a step forward or back.....

I see the new S3 is on the configurator, spec'd a Sportback up to just under £40k, anyone ordered ?
I ordered new S3 last week still awaiting a build date
I had to tell my local dealer it was available!!

I know it would be paddles only but if they removed the option to be in manual all the time (barring both stall prevention & rev limiter), that would probably be a deal-breaker for me.

Hardly use the rotary dial if am honest.....last time l used it was to set the tyre pressures ....and you can only do this whilst the car is stationary....so l wont miss it

lf internal dimensions are a must for the likes of yourself well the A3/A Class/1 Series Are of no use to you as they are all very similar in size

The only thing that stinks with the whole configure thing is that you have to pay for side air bags...I think that's quite sh**ty really Audi putting profit over safety. From when I got my S3 in 2015 they were standard.

The interior dimensions aren't a problem but I was just surprised how little the car has grown compared to the previous gen. The main issue for me has been boot space at times and currently it is almost big enough but an extra 20 or 30 litres would have been ideal, certainly not 30 litres less!

I can't afford for it to grow much more otherwise it won't fit in my garage

Same here, if that is the case.

I’m surprised if they’ve gotten rid of ‘full’ manual mode, I know the newer S/RS models still have that from some reviews I’ve seen.

Wouldn’t even consider the car when it comes to changing if that was the case I drive around in sport manual 90% of the time so I have the quicker throttle response. I don’t have it in sport auto very often as it loves to hold gears for too long and doesn’t change up above 4th when cruising at lower speeds.

Nothing more annoying than following someone who can’t maintain a constant 30mph and my car is sport constantly changing from 3rd to 4th between 25-30mph :weary:

I know we're meant to be talking about the S3... but what do we think are the chances of a (non-S) 2.0T quattro / 40 TFSI model? I can't see these referred to anywhere in future plans for the A3 8Y.

I've had 2 x 2.0T quattro and an S3 in 8P flavour and would probably settle for closer to 200hp than 300 these days. My ideal new car would be an 8Y 2.0T quattro in a nice but understated spec (Sport model with lots of upgrades).

Give it time fella and I'm sure they will have something like the previous 190ps engine in the mix.

Just had an email from Drive the Deal , they are offering 8.5% discount on the new S3, seems a good deal.

Greetings, I’m new to these parts but find myself interested in the new S3/RS3 sportback variants.

Currently have a Mk7.5 Golf R-Line which I like just wish it had more power, I do really like it’s interior though. (Perhaps I should have bought a Golf R at the time, but, oh well, and I really don’t think much of the Mk8 Golf).
The Golf replaced a WRX which was quite a bit more fun so find myself looking for something with a bit more grunt. I have always thought the current S3/RS3 interior a bit plain and it is getting quite a bit long in the tooth now, although, seems somewhat more classy than the new “tech” cockpit. However, like others here, I’m not sure I like the new interior either but if buying a new car, want the latest tech. I’m also curious about the new hydraulic adaptive suspension and the trick new rear clutch/diff (RS only?) which presumably allows more % power to be sent aft. (Drift mode perhaps?)

So I guess I’ll just wait and see how these new models pan out - I can’t see us getting the new S3 in Australia until next year and the RS3, who knows, gonna be a long wait I suspect.

I don't blame you for trying to keep under the 40k rip off tax threshold because I done the same with my 2018 S3 Saloon, although prices were cheaper back then.
I did some checking into prices for your car and the OTR is £39,905, but for the purpose of calculating the £40k threshold the price is £38,980 - you deduct first year VED and first registration fee.
So this means you had £1019 to play with which could have got you the cheaper of the two 19" wheel options and matrix lights for £680, or the more expensive 19" wheel option on its own for £770.

Must be daft not to buy a car without at least some discount...eh...????
You know that I always agree with you jassy old bean. :innocent:
Personal experience has taught me the only exception to this is when the model is in such high demand that all UK dealers have a "full retail take it or leave it" stance.
The new S3 is not in this category however. ;)

Was never a fan of the saloon S3/RS3 but the new S3 Saloon looks ace from the outside IMO.

A lot of people complaining about the quality inside and other things on the new model and my friend in Germany tells me that the new M135i is a cut above the S3/Golf R and A35 when it comes to fit and finish and the media interface controls.
