What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

where did you get this from? I have pre facelift 2008 but all the 1's I'd seen said was for alot never model
Ebay came from China worth the wait but I had to adapt it its too long so got a grinder and just took bits off evenly till it fitted it should have a slight lip but you cant tell

How bad we talking? Mine needs doing apparently

There's different types of manual gearbox, mine seems to be more similar to one off a polo from the youtube vids I've seen.

Differences are the position of the filler plug, on mine it was just below where the drivers side driveshaft attaches to the gearbox, with the exhaust in the way. A small extension bar on my ratchet reached it though.

On the 'regular' boxes, the filler and drain plugs are both easily accessible on the passenger side.

Tbh it was easily doable, just a nasty job. The old oil stunk, slopped a little on the drive. The new oil, because I initially thought I had the bigger box with the larger oil capacity, ended up dribbling out the fill hole while I worked out why that was happening so got oil oil over my hands and tools. Time wise though, it was less than an hour, just hate being under a car on Jacks up to my waist looking up

Well spotted. Its often mentioned, but rarely deciphered. I had a minor knock to the front and was gifted OEM S3 grill and splitter, but no bumper.

Picked up an S-line bumper cheap (with fogs) and had a mate paint it all to match for free, including the grill surround.

grill is a straight swap. Splitter is simply bolted on as it is on the S3 - just had to drill the holes.

I had many sleepless nights over the outcome. Personally I think it looks pretty cool. It’s a blackline, so the touches of colour and finish give it a bit of contrast - I think so anyway!!
Very interesting. I think it looks very good, and its exactly what I was going for with mine (deep sea blue). I didn't know the S3 grill was a straight swap, but finding one in here (Canada) without having it shipped from overseas is going to be next to impossible.

But the black grill surround on a dark coloured car looks great, especially with the silver rings and fog light surround. Contrast is spot on in my opinion.

Finally treated mine to a flat bottom.

Looks wicked mate!

Is it a straight swap plug and play? Also, can you use your original airbag

Thanks buddy i thought I’d go with the non chrome ring one and really glad I did. Unfortunately it is a new airbag people on eBay are wise to the fact that if you split them you can make more money also I suppose it’s easier to send a wheel without the pyrotechnic in the post lol.

It was just a straight swap but I’d already changed the slip ring and stuff when I fitted the mfsw a while ago. I do need to sort the airbag wiring out but that’s because mines a old school single setup and the steering wheel is dual.

Aware my car is not everyones taste anyway haha but I LOVE IT.

Straight piped my 170 2.0tdi. Barely any smoke, only low rev in high gear foot down. Loads of intake noise, louder than my Focus ST. Strangely doesn't sound like a tractor, has quite a nice start up sound to be honest.

Also remapped to 220bhp with hardcut limiter, rev limit removed.

Im already looking at intercoolers...

I want this fbsw with start button!! Can you post a how-to? Will this even work on a pre-facelift?

Way too long to go through it all to be honest. This is fitted in my 8P. Pre facelift yes doable.

If it is anything like I remember, you have to use a relay and then hack into the ignition barrel wiring... Looks class though!

I had an s2000 start button in my first car, Ford Fiesta

Understandable...I’m just glad to know it’s doable on a prefacelift. The wheel- all buttons work or no? This wheel, start button + mk2 TT instrument cluster is my dream driver’s side...I’m just clueless how to do it lol

Correct. My application I’m using both start button and drive select button for 2 different functions so 2 relays. Start/stop is sent via a wireless signal. LIN converter is also required for dual stage airbag conversion.

Hi Jay could you point me in the right direction with the dual stage airbag conversion? I’m looking at adding the wires and replacing the pins at the ecu in order to make sure my dual stage will go off if it needs to. Hopefully not etc but mine was originally fitted with a single stage and I’ve changed to a flat bottom with a dual on there. If there’s another way I’d really appreciate the pointers

Going back to the ecu is not necessary. Everything can be converted within the steering wheel by going in between the airbag connector and connector at the top of the wheel. The LIN I have is attached. Mine was single stage now dual.

No more creaky parcel shelf, simple but effective. Apparently the Golfs have something similar as standard??

Changed the EVAP N80 valve, and charcoal canister, to get rid of a check engine light and this code:

16825/P0441/001089 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow

Really simple job!

Fitted the US console with 8V wireless charging plate still need to clean up but really happy with the result

Nicely done! Does the wireless charging pad fit without modding? Would you happen to have the part number handy? I’m thinking I might try this out...can’t stand wires!

Wrote the car off.
My journey with the A3 ends here.

Not sure if we’ll stay with Audi or switch to something else...

It’s from Creations Motorsport, it’s a shield to protect the plug on the HPFP. If these break it’s a new pump.

That’s why it’s a good idea to get the guard - if you break the sensor in the top of the pump it’s new pump time. At least an engine cover gives some protection.

Finally changed the suspension after one and half years of being sensible.
What a change the AP coilovers have made in every aspect of the car, should have done it straight away.
Still letting it settle before maybe tweaking ride height slightly and then 4 wheel alignment.
Stage 1 next me thinks...

After doing the US console and Qi charger I thought I’d get my hands dirty and renew the front shocks, brakes, bottom arm bushes. In between storm frank decide to make me wait about mind but got it done in the end.

Also if anyone knows where I can get a foot rest cover to match my pedals I’d really appreciate it. I wanna keep with genuine parts but can’t find a part number for one.
