Next Gen RS3, or not ???

Totally agree ... the current (facelift) RS3 is bang on the money ... I even considered getting one as my next car (to replace my pre FL RS3). But as i had the car 4 years, a face lift as nice as they are might not feel different enough for another 4 years.

the new A class had turned my head from the first time I saw it. I’d considered the previous A class on 2 occasions but both times bought an Audi again (S5 & RS3) but this time round the Merc really appealed to me.

But yeah if you’ve got a lovely face lift RS3 now, the new car dash is no where near is nicely laid out or balanced is it. I think Audi will radically change it on the face lift in a few years more in keeping with the look us long term Audi owners prefer.

I think the only thing getting me out of my RS3 at this point is a second hand, clean GT3RS. Short of that, the M2 competition caught my eye when I was looking

Ever so slightly a different price bracket! £150k?
I wouldn’t mind that 9000rpm engine, though.
From experience I can say the interior is a disappointment on the 991. It feels very dated now.

The 991 GT3 had a 9k redline but had engine problems. For the RS they updated the engine and lowered the redline.

I never knew it had issues. Thought it was bulletproof. Worth knowing...if I ever win the lottery!

Yeah just fyi there are E, F and G engine codes that correspond to years made 2014, 15 and 16 afaik. E is the one that had the most problems, F less so and G with none so far. I think that Porsche ended up having to give a 10 year engine warranty however the oldest cars are now just 4 years away from that running out! New GT3 engine Sir ...

I am looking at September next year to replace me RS3 saloon.
https://wrightimage.smugmug.com/Sample-Gallery/i-f6zKMDQ
I will be looking at the A45s , new RS3 saloon and the new BMW M3 with xdrive. The M3 might be too big, will have to take one for a test. Plus as others have said they lose a lot on deprecation, so another consideration.
I am hoping that BMW do a proper M 1 series coupe or hatch to complete with that A45s and new RS3 not seen anything saying they will.

I never really see BMW and MB as ‘competition’ for Audi.

Me neither
Audi RS3 for me
And a little something to tide me over till when ever that will be
A dirty diesel

Nothing wrong with that at least it’s not a down market BMW or M-B

I would have thought that the m2 is the direct competitor to the rs3 and about the same size. I will have the x drive m2 on my consideration list next time around.

Yep that price is high. And the maintenance!
Having discounted a nearly new R8 Carbon 620PS we took a look at a 2018MY GT3 for just over £125k. Very nice, very slick but not really a 6,000 mile a year car..rather harsh and brutal, so we then looked at similar age Turbo S 580PS 4 wd and a bit more comfortable but 3/4 year old versions and very old technology it seems.... so... for a lot less money the new 992 450PS Carrera 4S offers almost as much fun, 3 year warranty. One service every 2 years and strongish residuals. Thinking maybe the Targa 4S but dreaming continues for another month or two.

Why not just get an R8 V10 Plus? I doubt you'll notice the extra performance the new car has but you'll definitely notice that its more muted and the soft limiter at idle is annoying too. It's also a good look at how the car will depreciate as you can get used ones for under £80k now and there'll be more in that range in the winter.

I’ve driven a few and actually borrowed a 69 plate Carbon plus 620PS for a morning. Very tempting but Kyomi Grey not to my liking which made me question other things. Space, practically, depreciation, no sunroof... hence the Porsche idea but even then .... trouble is the RS4 is such a superb all rounder it takes some beating.

Yeah I think the same about the RS3 Saloon and think getting 2 cars would be the only way to beat it, 1 on the comfortable daily driver side and 1 for the exciting drives. Personally I wouldn't go for the R8 V10 Performance and would go for a V10 Plus instead for similar speed but more sound to add to the experience. For something that doesn't depreciate as much, the best bet would be going for something limited run or special, could go for a Ferrari 458 or F430 Manual (maybe even 430 scud, 599, FF or f12), Lambo Gallardo Superleggera, McLaren 12C/650S would be bottoming out their depreciation curve and then the Porsche GT cars. I guess you could get a Cayman GT4 plus a new A4? In terms of Audi's, only the 1st gen R8's had limited edition models like the R8 GT and LMX (I guess the performance parts edition gen 2 is limited). R8 GT's are still £70-80k. Have you driven the 992 C4S? The reviews I saw for it weren't that great driving experience wise.

^^ as a current R8 owner they are a superb car, so easy to drive slowly yet so ridiculously fast when needed yet more comfy than my S3 was.
the lack of sunroof yep agreed would be good to have one, space is an issue if you need any kind of space at all (I don't) but i can do a reasonable shop using the frunk, the depreciation is bad but I bought mine at 2yrs old (10k miles) and paid around 60% of the new price. Servicing so far seems to be alternating between £500/£1000 annually.
once you have the noise and experienced the v10 at full chat no Porsche will ever be the same (in fact the 2020 R8 is nowhere near as angry either), all 911s are effective and brutally fast but at these performance levels it is irrelevant (all about the experience imo), both will get you into jail as quickly as the other. 6k mile average has been 21mpg, S3 used to be 32mpg so happy with that.

The question is bigger than RS/911/R8..........there is nothing like the delivery of a naturally aspirated engine that has torque high up wanting you to rev it out (using 2 or 4 wheels), a turbo makes it so easy but lacks soul (and gains lag), it is a different mindset and experience pinging a 5.2l engine up to 8.5k revs which is the reason i bought mine (having tried a few variants of 911) but hey you pays your money and takes your choice............no bad cars in your options.

Enjoy the search.

My boss had a 992 C4S when I had my 991.2 C4S.

I’m still not sure on the looks at the rear of the 992 and to my ears it didn’t sound great. But boy is the interior a step on.

If I had the money and also the safe space to put it, then I’d be going for a pre OPF R8 V10 Plus. It really could be one of the last great and semi affordable naturally aspirated engines that you can buy.

Failing that, McLaren 720S’s look to be good value for the performance on offer.

It is one hell of a dilemma. Loved the R8 but seriously challenging space wise for trips. Looked at McLaren 720 but seemed fragile, Lamborghini lovely but same issues as R8. 992 seems to tick all my boxes and I’m keeping the RS4 as well for a while. Looking for 450+ PS sunroof or targa, reliable and minimalish depreciation..
