S4 timing issue

Hi all
If someone can help, or even point me in the right direction, it would be great. My S4 is running 9° retarded ignition timing. And running rich on both banks. I can't, and nobody else can figure out why. I've changed out plugs, coil packs, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, I've pulled and tested injectors. The car runs and feels fine to drive. I only discovered this by chance. I took a test drive in another standard S4 my brother was looking to buy, and I couldn't believe the power difference between both cars.

The car has always felt the same, power wise. I had the pre-cats deleted (gutted and straight piped).
Even when this was done, the car still felt exactly the same. I was expecting some sort of gain, but nothing!
I've been told the main cats wouldn't be the problem, but I've never had them checked out. I'll have them checked now to rule them out.
On a side note. The standard S4 I took for a drive not only had bags more power, but also the exhaust sounded much deeper and way more aggressive too.

Has the timing chains been done and not timed correctly???
Only reason I ask is I had an S4 come to me once that was pretty flat I checked all timing out turns out one of the variators on 1 bank was out by 3 degrees set it all back up it was a different animal.

No idea Paul. As far as I know the timing chains have never been done. I was told the chains may be stretched. But surely there'd be chain-slap on start up. The thing starts from cold as quite as a mouse, no rattle. Would it be a big job to check out the variators on both banks?

Ye it’s a little bit of work to check them and you need the proper timing tool if I remember right 1 side is worse than other to check some very awkward bolts on rocker cover tops
Maybe 3-4hrs to check its 3-4 yrs since I did one
