What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

It would appear that the gains from the 034 HFC are as they quote, having just been out for a quick drive on the same circuit i know very well the power is way down like for like, bottom end is not as good and midrange has lost a lot of performance i've grown to love , top end suffers a bit but mostly its the midrange that has lost the most and a tad anyoning as thats the best part.
Also lost the angry growl from the exhaust aswell , so i've a tame car now, i think i'll need to come up with something to put back on that will satisfy the performance side and MOT , really cant be swapping over CAT's every 12 months.
I'm going to see how it goes this year with the bigger turbo on. I may have to go for something on the custom side as I could not be dealing with swapping.

I did wonder whether heat wrapping could work? Might try it first for the sake of a few quid.

Swapping CATs back and forth is a real pain frankly , its not a difficult job , just fiddly and can get a tad irratating .

The problem is not helped by the lack of suitable alternatives, most systems use the OE CAT otherwise its back to hoping the car will get through the emmisions .

After catching it on a speed bump I promptly went home changed my pants and removed the tow bar

What wheel spacers are you wearing there?

Custom cat with a slightly higher cell count, Rob?

May well be a solution Scott, i need to do a bit more research on things.
I noticed today that the rear section is starting to go around some of the welds now, not leaking yet but only a matter of time, maybe worth replacing the whole lot with a custom setup.

I may have to stick 12s on the rear soon ..now my springs seem to have settled a bit I’m incredibly close to the tyres rubbing on the arch liner

And what tyres do you have on?

I'm considering 15mm on the back (235/40/18). I was going 20mm but think that's going to be too tight when I get my back springs on.

I think those 225's are the only reason you don't have tyre rub allready... :icon thumright:

I have my 7 spoke oe 18s with those tyres on ,I could try them on mine with my 15 spacers

Fitted my alternative rear diffuser this evening.
Not quite the look I was hoping for, after cutting to make allowance for the removable towbar. Towbar and swivle socket are both visable, but hey ho, the joys of caravanning.
But I still prefer the look to the original.

Rob, I now see your reluctance to start cutting yours up.

Hi, did you have any problems fitting the rear diffuser?, just asking as I went to fit mine today, mine has twin exhausts,
I found it would not sit like my original diffuser, and the clips along the top edge that fit in the bumper were to far away to push in.

It went on a treat, but I had to trim the plastic that it clips into. Its just too thick for the curve of the new diffuser.
I took my angle grinder to it (2 mm metal cutting blade) and cut about 10mm off it. After that it went straight on.
Is yours OE or aftermarket?

That would be great if you could give it a try.
Yup 43 offset.

Don't forget that an 8j et43 will not stick out as much as a 8.5j et43 rim, you need to factor in the extra 6mm on the outer rim edge and then add into the offset equation.

8J is the widest 18" rim that was supplied on B7's, and ET43 was the most widely offered rim offset.

Hi, it's a genuine part, like yours but with twin exhausts, what plastic did you cut? Do you mean the plastic that's below where the clips are
I think it looks a bit corrugated to look at.

Has it failed on the emissions before Rob?

Just scrapped through last year, but failed a pre-test that i booked back in april on emmsions, luckily the MOT was extended until the end of oct , they just could'nt get it within the limits.

My oe 7 spoke 18s are 8j ,‘‘tis why I thought it would be a perfect reference for you

As I said, I could be wrong......

Yup, that's the bit.
I took up to about 10mm off that, depending on the inner curve if the new diffuser. It clipped straight on then, with a bit of hefty tapping in to seat the clips.

I’ll chuck my old wheels on either tonight or tomorrow ,Reckon 20mm spacers on 43et 8j (your proposed set up) will give u almost exactly the same poke as my set up 45et 8.5j 15mm spacers ,think u may have a fraction of a mm more poke if u wanna start getting exact
Think u may rub,I know u tow sometimes,my rims sit flush with the arch

Hi, I guess you mean 10mm off the bottom or off the thickness? being OEM you would expect it to just fit, did you have any fitting instructions
with yours?
Mine was used so no paperwork.

Yes, off the bottom, and not 10mm right across. Its a case of offer it up and adjust.
My rhs (non exhaust) took a bit more cutting than the lhs.
You would think being OEM that it would go straight on, my rivet holes didn't quite line up either, had to adjust them. And I don't have my bottom brackets reftted yet as one has broken.
I had fitting instructions, but were a bad translation, the schematic drawings weren't a lot of help either.

Ok Thanks,
Yes not impressed with it being OEM part, I contacted the person I bought it off to ask if he had to mod anything to fit.
He said no, but you havet to slowly ease it in, he had an Avant and I have a saloon, but these diffusers fit either car?
as I believe the bumpers are different only, not the diffusers.
So if I lay under car and have an assistant offer it up I should see it the touching points, does this sound right?

Yes, I believe the diffusers are the same. My Instructions showed it going onto a saloon, but fits my Avant fine.

You can do it that way, or just measure the inside of the diffuser and see where the plastic strip needs to be fettled. When I took my old diffuser off my plastic strip was very dusty, when I offered my new one up the dusty strip left marks on it and I could see where it didn't fit and cuts needed to be made.
As I say it was mostly on my non-exhaust side, and wasn't much, then tidied with a sanding wheel on my Dremel.
