Is Apple CarPlay wireless?

Only thing I can think of in addition to what you have already completed settings wise would be:

ENG248430-ENG248832-function_configuration_connectivity-wifi_client_mode_5GHz = On

There is something else to check but it's complicated. Change the above, delete all devices, reset MIB and test again.

Yeah, I noticed that one ... I think that’s for the MMI to join a wireless network (thus setting its network interface to client mode). I used that trick in my B8/B8.5 S5 cars to get out of having to use the SIM card (Audi Connect) to get online. So instead of your phone connecting to your car, your car connects to your phone!

But, hey, I’m desperate to get this to work so I’ll give this a try!

just to confirm, you are resetting the MIB in-between changes? Long press on the power button and don't release until the unit powers off and back on again

No dice! I’m pretty sure the underlying problem is the lack of 5GHz antennas in these cars. When my laptop connects to the car’s WiFi, it still shows 2.4GHz. I mean, you SAW all my settings. If they were actually being observed, there would be zero WiFi.

Thank you again for taking a look at this!

Welcome :)

when next with your car try this, turn on the vehicle and wait for the MIB to fully boot. Once loaded, from the menu screen press and hold the following two locations together until the unit reboots and enters "RED" engineering mode:
  • press and hold on the time in the top right
  • press and hold the icon next to the time
Once in the menu you should be able to browse for activation codes. Do not play with anything while browsing, not that much can be done tho. Can you take some photos of whats on your vehicle. I have a feeling that wireless ASI very very new vehicles might be licensed given that the adaptation changes have not worked.

indeed :)

not sure what could be going on to be honest. personally I would return everything to stock, reset the MIB and then start over as this should work based on my experience.

Man, why does everyone act like I’m speaking Greek?

Seriously though, it’s not supported in this particular car. They take the time to spell it out in the owner’s manual. A lot of people get confused because they see a face lift MMI and think “well, surely...” ... first of all, don’t call me Shirley.

But seriously, until I meet someone who has the same MY and model car and got it to work, there’s no point in wasting any more time. Everyone who got this to work had a different car: A3, A6, A7. Not sure how that A3 got in there. At this point the dongle is the cheaper option.

Thanks again, DJAlix, you’re awesome for giving this multiple tries!

I'm also interested in anything that can make this work. I have a 2020 A4, US model. Happy to pay for the assistance if this makes it possible to enable wireless carplay on my car. Please keep the thread going! Thanks.

Not sure if the dongle is a solution either, I've been reading posts from people who claim that it doesn't work with their 2020 A4. So frustrating!

My Sline A6 was built early Jan 2020 and does wireless CarPlay from the factory. If you want any scans just let me know. I’ve got ODB11 and VCP.

Thank you for offering! If you have dual screens (not counting the virtual cockpit) or a 6/7/9, it’s not an issue. It’s models 5 and below with a single infotainment screen (no climate screen) that seem to have the issue. I mentioned elsewhere that they’ll probably unlock wireless CarPlay with Audi connect Plus (a mere $500/18 months plus data plan). We shall see!

Uh? I thought all A6 C8's had dual touchscreens - lower climate control screen and upper MMI? Unless its different in US?

It’s the same in the US - he is referring to Audi A5 and below as only having one screen therefore doesn’t have wireless CarPlay.
