Hey
I have seen some people on this forum and others that they are replacing their side lights and fog lights with LED.
They are canbus error free.
Are these things just plug and play, and have any of you ever done this?

I have just had warning saying my left side light is gone, its not, so I assume it will go shortly.

I have also seen websites putting main driving lights on with a box thing in the engine with LED and now your car is fully LED.

for right now, can I buy some LED for my side lights and fog lights to replace the halogen lights?

Thanks all

My experience = there is a lot of unbranded, cheap Chinese rubbish around (fails early or falls apart). Stick to a brand like Osram if possible - if not, I wouldn't bother.

I cant see any osram or phillips that will fit mine as they are halogen.
They dont seem to do any conversion kits that will not bring up error codes.

Also I dont know anything about soldering pieces on to ensure I dont get error codes, so will need plug and play like the ones in the link.

Can you get LED fog lights to replace the halogen ones without throwing up error codes?

Does anyone know if there are any better lights than standard halogens I can fit?
Or at least can I install LED for my fog lights or side lights without affecting other road users?

Talk to Trups at EM Tuning. Site sponsor, and specialist in vehicle lighting, especially led. I have bought kits from him for my A3 and my wife’s Polo GT. Very happy with the results. Usual disclaimer - No connection other than satisfied customer.

Search for 6000k halogen Lamps for your bulb type. Will be white and brighter than the current yellow ones

Suggest switching to top of the range Phillips/Osram road legal 55W headlight bulbs - as I've done myself. I've changed my combined DRL/sidelight to LED which isn't technically legal but I've had no problem at several MOTs and these aren't likely to "dazzle" anybody like an illegal headlight. For my LED DRL/sidelights I switched to Osram (4-year gtee) after having a couple of unbranded Chinese ones fail quite quickly despite advertising that they contained "quality cree" LEDs. Mine's an older model than your's so the bulbs may well be different.

I am getting confused with my halogens.
So I have 2 main lights that are on all day while I drive, I assume this is the sidelights?
So what are DRL on my car?
As far as I can tell there are 2 lights on my car, obviously 2 in each housing.
Are DRL and Sidelights the same thing?

Did you get any errors or did you have to install anything else with them, or are they plug and play?
Can you send me a link to the ones you bought please?

Thanks so much

Show us front of your car first..

So the ones that have the silver covers on, these lights stay on whilst I am driving, and my light switch is showing 0 in the car.
I have fog lights that I want to change to led, but would like my 24-7 lights as led for added safety.
Thanks for helping

Hey
I never said I had LED, I want to put LED bulbs into my sidelights as they are on all the time.
You cannot legally install LED lights as main night lights as they are projector units and will dazzle other drivers, also police can fine you. Unless they have managed to get around this. But on HID website says they are illegal still. But only as main night driving lights H7.

Can you send me a link to the ones you bought for each section please?
Once again I really appreciate your help.

You are absolutely incorrect .. Don't u see those very new cars fully led ? how they are mega bright straight from factories??? They even making now DRLs so bright.. But they just will attract you but they won't dazzle you AT ALL as the beam is STILL DIPPED below level of bonnet ... When u using high beam it is simply light gets lifted higher level above bonnet which means it starts blinding you .. You don't know because u have old yellow halogen lights but turn your normal driving lights and look at them from bottom ... And you will see them stronger.. I never ever used hi beam on my car..
DRLs since 2013 has been enabled all the time even on zero position because in EU is law that we need to have lights on all the time when u start driving on road.. If not u will get ticket .. So old cars had them off on position zero and drivers always forgot to turn them on and they got tickets..
So u have german car so EU car so that's why they are on all time.. :)
Sorry I haven't got link but you can search yourself ... remove each bulb even turning indicator bulbs there is code of bulb PWY24W so put in ebay PWY24W LEDs
check this thread I found.. https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/changed-halogen-to-led.383496/

OK but I still keep asking for the lights you got as they work, so I assume I can use them on mine as well?

Do you know where you bought them, or how much they were?

For now I just want my 24-7 sidelights as LED or HID whatever they are called, and error free without having to solder.

I think they are W5W

Halfords sell a pack for 15.00 which seems a good price, but there is no mention of error free Canbus.

Thanks again Peter :thumbs up:

I dont get it LOL
So they are plug and play?
How long have yours lasted?

Thanks again Peter
Don't understand what u can't get ? I said plug an ''lit'' not play .. you don't play light bulbs :)
Over year
Just buy LEDs provided and that's it.. simple like I did .. don't polemize how long last or what.. don't worry much they will work just fine

Oh sorry very slow LOL
I am going to try my 24-7 side lights that are always on and see how I get on.
I am getting a warning from them even though they are working fine, but its intermittent, so I assume they are about to go

Thanks again for your advice Peter

No they are not about to go .. cars has its ECU (Control Module Unit) where all electronic powering is gathered in ECU is ''canbus system'' to alarm you on dash board if something isn't right or changes made or wrong voltages.
So if you already installed some LEDs which are obviously cheap no canbus error free it will throw you error because NOT bulb being faulty but because LEDs drawing less power so your/mine/others ECU canbus system will detect low voltage (or open circuit in case of burned bulb) draw resulting alarm on dash...
So third party LED makers started putting resistors into LEDs boards, to draw more power or exact power as ordinary bulb does..
Many these LEDs has poor resistors resulting overheat and burning so they will fail.. or start flickering..

I have not changed my lights, they are standard Halogen lights, thats why I wants to change the sidelights where the error is to LED.
It never came on today, its very intermittent. My mechanic said there were no errors, so I thought maybe they were about to burn out hence the intermittent warning

You will then have corrosion and condensation occurring in headlights where makes it to not working properly.
