Matt’s Defender Build Thread.

Lovely photo of the Landy and the Yorkshire Dales. I had never visited the Dales until my last visit back to the UK and I was truly impressed with the Yorkshire people, unlike some other English areas which will remain nameless. I had a great time in Whitby, a very pretty area.

Some little updates!
Bullpotroad1 1

First job of lockdown was grind back the front steering guard and paint! Think the gold/bronze goes well with the green!
20200418 172554 copy 756x1008

Fitted a colour matched center console
20200412 113909 copy 756x1008

Got the rear complete with tie down points for the camp trip gear, shame it never got out to use!
IMG 20200405 WA0017 copy 567x1008

And finally got a stage 1 Alive tuning remap and a lighter clutch spring fitted.
Truck feels really, really good for a simple map taking it to around ~150bhp, but in this car it feels more. No more lumpy flat spots, smooth power right through the gears, doesnt feel like it's working hard at 65+ and the all important mpg looks better!

I assume you’re not working on building sites @jassyo06 as they’re all still shut here?

Glad to hear Matt that you had some car projects to keep your sanity during the lockdown and you did a cracker job on those updates. In B.C Canada we were lucky as we had no total lockdown unlike some other provinces who did. Our chief Medical Officer for B.C.
did a great job on getting people to social distance but also to get out of the house for walks and exercising to maintain a healthy mind. We were allowed to drive our cars as much as we wanted within about a 100 mile radius from our homes and with restaurants, shops etc now opening the roads are almost back to normal traffic. The first few weeks of partial lockdown were fantastic to drive on, barely a car to be seen.
My car has been washed every week and had a complete detailing once every month.....just to relieve boredom.
I trust that the U.K. gets back on track soon, as to be honest Boris has done a very poor job in dealing with the covid situation. It blew me away that people arriving in the U.K. are allowed to enter with no self isolation plans for 14 days and this will only be enforced after June 14th. Canada did this months ago.
Sorry for the rant, but a lot of my family in the U.K. are just fed up with the restrictions and uncertainty as the government lurches forward with no clear plans. Scotland has done a better job but England is a mess with really high death numbers.

Not worked on a building site for 2 years mate.....gave up the trade as it's been flogged to death with poor pay rates, brickies and joiners earning far more....that aint right....so the company l done all the electrical work for over a decade ie industrial work..took me on full time 2 year's ago....it's a semiconductor plant....and we are part of the silicone chip process that provide chips for remote handheld body thermometers which are vital for the scenario that's been around us for months

Nice one buddy. It’ll mid-June at earliest before sites can open again and even then it’ll be heavily restricted.

I ended up going to Scotland a few times in my work van over the summer and realised how much easier it is, I think I had known deep down since new year that a van would suit me better! I'll make a post soonish about what I've done to it already haha, had it since August!

Maybe cursing a little here, but have you eve considered swapping an OM606 in there with a nice HX30 or HX35 turbo setup??

Thanks!

Yeah, I suppose getting to and from your destination will be quicker / easier now.
Seen a few cracking T6’s on sites this year and also at the Camping & Caravan Show at the SECC in February.
Hope restrictions ease in 2021 to allow us all more freedom again.

yeah the comfort is great, captain seats, two arm rests, dsg. Although the mpg is poor!! S3 is once again more economical!

Is it the 204 bhp one?
afraid not, its the 150.....which from talking to a few 204 owners the mpg is hardly any different, 75mph motorway cruising is giving me 28-30mpg, same as what the landy was getting doing 65mph.

Thought you had been a little quiet mate, did all the extra stuff you did to the Landy go with it.

Although most swap in an older car, yours is also doable :)

Sounds meaty but surely a big bore exhaust as well. Not keen on the amount of reek it putting out though :cower:

if I ever would do a longitudial swap with a diesel, the OM606 would be one of my favourites.. 5500+rpm, 400hp/900Nm with the right turbo and pump(and still have enough punch down-low)...

Nice new bus mate!

My Brother in law has one too, couldn’t understand why at first. But now he’s had it over a year I can see the practicalities of them. Gets the 3kids in it plus 5 bikes in the back. Can get his motorbike in it and makes the ideal cheap wkend getaway with the awning and double bed in back.

Currently got DPF issues with his just now though.

Enjoy.
