Write ups on albeit standard a3 models are describing the plastics and some materials as low rent
A colleague had some warranty work carried out on his nearly new passat.
A few miles after collection, the engine dropped on to the sub frame, danced around a bit and made a bit of a mess by all accounts. The dealer had forgotten to refit the driver's side top engine mount.
After much debate, VW decided to replace the car with a small upgrade to keep my colleague quiet.
The original car is currently for sale through the VW approved scheme.
Trust nobody.

Must say mileage blockers is a new one to me. Although clocking has been going on for years.
I do wonder sometimes when I see a car with a completely worn alcantara steering wheel how it can only have done 10k miles, though! My old TTRS had 18k miles on and the steering wheel was like new!

There are companies in the city where I live whom advertise mileage blockers and you’d be surprised on what cars they can be put in. It’s not just high performance cars.
But if you see a car with low mileage, with a worn interior (Seats, steering wheel) then that would be a decent indicator it’s had a hard life and something amiss.
these devices sit behind the instrument cluster and block the speedometer from working which then stops the odometer from going up so maybe VCDS or maybe ODIS or something would show the true mileage.
Seems like the only way if not buying a lemon is buying a factory order car.

Even a factory order car...
I remember getting access to Listers depot where they stored hundreds of new cars waiting to be delivered to the dealers. I was like a kid in a sweet shop, RS cars everywhere. But the state some of them were in was shocking and one RS3 had damage so severe on the bonnet that it looked like a forklift truck had hit it, with huge gauges that had nearly pierced it. So that would have certainly had a new bonnet and front end respray. I’m sure the new owner would never have been told.
You can check the mileage on the gearbox and also the ABS pump. I did this before buying my new facelift. They both tallied up with the odometer luckily.
Auto trans go into Adv measuring values type in mileage into the entry box. Then tick check box to display mileage.
In ABS there are several places where mileage is recorded upon events taking place(disc drying etc) that will be very close to your odometer reading.
