Hello,

Looking for any other idea as I am out of any possibilities.

2004 A3 8P 2 door.

8p0 959 801 J Driver door controller
8p0 959 802 G Passenger door controller

2 different to enable mirror folding with remote. All worked fine until 2 weeks ago when I wanted to mount a new steering wheel.

Disconnected - of the battery as per Audi Manual , did my check with airbag. Put everything back and connected battery. After this the window does not roll up with the driver door button.

Already done:

1. Learn ends , hold up and down , confirmed with VCDS ENDS Learned.
2. Button sends command for auto open , I can see that in VCDS
3. Changed Button same thing , changed Controller completely same thing.
4. Left controller disconnected 12 h same thing ...

Passenger window works form driver door button.
Driver window goes up completely via auto close from remote , I still have the separate comfort module pre 2010 that has auto close.
Mirrors fold with remote just fine and open with ignition so the controller is connected etc.

No errors ...

I am out of ideas :) , grateful for any new idea to try ...

Mirror folding with remote, assuming you added a modified setup as that option isn't available with stock modules & wiring.

J modules has different wiring to G, G is preface lift & J is newer that supports led indicator on mirrors.

So what's your setup exactly as something see odd with this.

I have changed the wiring on the door to support the J controller so I can code the mirror fold in with remote :). It works like this for over 2 years now no issue :) as the driver controller sends the fold in command all worked fine until I removed the - this time. The batter was changed in this 2 yeas , so was the controller several times as I added anti dazzel mirrors as well, everything woks , window , lock mechanism all works except for the auto close ..... after removing the battery - terminal this time ...

as I mentioned the ends are learned and the button sends the auto close command and I can see it in vcds being received by the controller it just starts and stops immediately ...

Here is a screenshot

I've never known any modules to support folding the mirror when you press your remote fob lock & unlock.

It was only available to fold via the door dial knob.

So something is very bizarre & lucky for yours to work with stock wiring & modules.

Do you have a pic of your module so I can see the software version, any logs of the modules to see the coding as it was never an option on these cars.

It is supported on all GEN3 module via the comfort function and VCP activation of the feature :). I have been coding these for a few years now :) it is even described here in the forum. All GEN3 for facelift controllers that support folding mirrors support the folding via remote but that is not my issue :) that works fine.

I want the window to work to auto open and auto close (from driver door button) which does not work :) . As far as SW version as mentioned above all gen3 controllers from VAG support this except the passat CC ones form 2009 to 2010. Unfold works on igntion. This is a default setup for SEAT controllers.

It opens with ignition, something has been added to the car to make this work, there was never this feature on the 8P & any coding either wasn't available or didn't work, now I'm intrigued.

Please share a full log.

Doesn't have memory seats fitted does it?

G is gen 1, J is gen 2, P & Q are gen 3.

I've got an 8P with all the latest modules fitted for a car with 433 conv module, so mine should also work, very bizarre.

Nothing was added to the car :) other than the controller , rewire and coding via VCP as mentioned. Here is an autoscan from a few days ago. Belive me all MAX controller starting with J support mirror fold on remote and open on ignition after enabling it with VCP :).

Again this is not the issue :) , the issue is still the window not working anymore for soft close via driver button :).

Here is a video of it working for mirrors form the car ;)

Coding will not help you here you need to modify 3 bytes in the controller.

189 (0xBD), 206 (0xCE) und 223 (0xDF) enable BIT4 and this will enable folding with remote on all MAX3 controllers from 2007 onward except for passat cc as I mentioned :D

So you're actually modifying the base code for the module itself, which enables the byte to be ticked for coding, it's not solely a vcds coding option I'm assuming you mean?

I'm about to jump on a train I'll read through this later, but in meantime thanks for the data, if I can see anything I can help I'll certainly message.

Ok I see, vcp is editing the binary, hex code directly to enable the feature, but it's not a visible coding change so to speak, it's back office one assumes.

When I get more time I'll grab vcp & have a play.

Correct , not a coding thing directly enabling the byte, VCP or directly on the EEPROM. PM me if you need more info happy to help.

Would be happy to hear any idea on my issue as well as it's driving me nuts :D

Ironically for ages I've been meaning to find a tool to mess with EPROM coding, I'll PM you about it when I have a moment if that's ok.

Many thanks.

I'll browse through this thread again this evening & see if can figure out what's going on your end.

Did you test the drivers window switch just after turning of the ignition, you remember when it has that time period it still works with ignition off, just seeing if it works then as that the same state as when locking, to a degree anyway, just when keys removed everything stops so to speak.

PM me anytime If I am here I will answer. VCP is the tool to read the EEPROM for some controllers not all support it.

hmmm :) , did not thing of that , will go out an test good ideea :D. Before taking ignition it does still work but I think it disables comfort function but will give it a try.

From my understanding it's the internal window switch that isn't working, sorry if I've misunderstood, got a terrible sinus headache, travelling on a train with loads of luggage

well no :| , I changed the whole switch with a different one and VCDS shows the auto close function being started but it ends immediately .... as if you click stop ....

The same thing with both switches ....

What I meant to say, when you press the drivers window switch the window doesnt work, not that the switch itself is faulty.

Just a thought without being an expert.
Did you try to disconnect the battery again, and do the end learning from scratch?
Best regards

Did you try to disconnect the battery again, and do the end learning from scratch?
Best regards
Yep , 3 times already :) , 2 times only the controller , 1 time the battery completely

What I meant to say, when you press the drivers window switch the window doesnt work, not that the switch itself is faulty.
The switch works. The windows goes up and down only in the manual way so I have to keep pressing up or down.
Did not get to test again before pulling key as I had some other things to finish but will give it another shot today.

Forgive if i am misunderstanding this .
Are you saying you cant get the Drivers window switch to get ur windows to auto close when you pull the window switch up and push switch down .

Correct. The window can go down and up "manual" but it will not auto open and close. But it will auto close with the remote ....
VCDS shows the auto close command is sent to the controller and it starts the process for 1 fraction of a second and stops immediately.

The reason why i asked is i have the autofolding on key fob too but dound when i tried another reprogrammed module ( same model ) on vcds it closed but when i tried it with fob it woukd do it and wondered if it was because the car noticed that it was a different module .have you tried to reset your windows plus your coding is well different from mine in ur drivers module . Mine i do have highline P in my 8P

Pulled controller , installed a new one , tried a new switch .... I am lost.
Will remove battery again and remove passenger controller and try to reset it with only the driver controller installed and see if works ...

Why do you keep removing battery . Lets roll back it worked for 2yrs , and you changed something , ( so maybe problem lies with what you have changed and not what is programmed ?

Those are all the things that I have already tried.

To make it short.

2 weeks ago I bought a new steering wheel :) , wanted to test it , disconnect - on the battery , tested airbag, it worked , put the original airbag back on and put battery - terminal back on. (Steering wheel still needs some mods, just tested the airbag to test it's ok).
Starting from then the soft close function stopped working on the driver side window from the button.

Nothing was changed in coding or parts on the car :) it just stopped working after the battery was disconnected to test the airbag.

I have vcds scans going back to the moment I installed the controller :) nothing changed.
