Shock Absorber Fitting

Hi People

Just wanting to know how long you think it should take to replace all 4 shocks on a Audi A4 B8 3.0 SLine.

I got the guy down to £300 inclusive which at their £54/hr Inc Vat is just under 1.4 hours per corner. I am supplying the parts, this is pure labour.

Im thinking that's reasonable, i just wanted to get feedback from others who may have already done this?

Is it just shocks or shocks and springs ???
Once it’s on ramp you could change both rear shocks in an hour and I would hope an hour a side at the front I would look to charge £135-£180
But then it would possibly need an alignment just depending how fronts taken apart
Me personally I think it’s expensive but I can do it all myself

Thanks for your reply.

Its just the shocks, i had 30mm lowered springs fitted a few months back, i should have really fitted both at the same time but it was a MOT fail cos one spring was 'chipped' at the end.

This garage is an independent Audi specialist, not used them before but seem decent, no bad reviews etc.

Interestingly you have 30 mins per corner at the rear and he was telling me the rear ones are worst to do, some pin or something that gets jammed. I explained that the springs were done a short time ago so should all come off.

This may be a really stupid question, ive watched a few videos but never really seen this part, do you need to compress the spring to fit the shock?

On the rear the spring sits separate to the shock I’ve done loads of B7’s but never a B8 yet but I’m guessing it’s a similar set up
And on the fronts spring and shock come out as 1 also at the front you could have trouble with a pinch bolt when taking apart I’ve not done B8 front shocks as yet (But it’s on the list for mine next)so I’m guessing but I would hope no more than 4 hrs unless there’s something I don’t know about

Have you seen this method of front shock replacement? Do not touch that pinch bolt!
Although I'll have to soon, to change all my control arms.

Ye I’ve seen that method I wouldn’t touch the dreaded pinch bolt I can only assume the garage is preparing for the worst I shall check the time on Autodata in the morning

Seems reasonable. Suspension work is a pain at the best of times, but if it's been apart recently, then should be straight forward. I broke a front coil spring on my Allroad last year and stopped at the pinch bolt which refused to budge, plus hate handling coils under tension. Right tools and ramps are your friends on this job.

Checked Autodata 3 hrs for front pair of shocks to change
1.6 hrs to change out the rear shocks

I've done my rears took about an hour & half to do both sides. Very easy to do.
