Hi all,

recently found this forum and seems to be some good knowledge on here-am also active on the RS246 forum plus some FB ones also.
Picked up an Audi approved used model (Jan 2018 B9 RS5 coupe) just before lockdown (I did pause for serious thought before getting back into some expensive metal and signing on the dotted lines but so far my job is holding up very well luckily) after looking for months. The original plan was a return to an RS6 or 7 (preferably a PE) as I had a non PE 6 before but had to let it go due to poor man maths on my part. Best car I ever owned.
Potted history: 3 M cars, 1 Alpina, 3 Audi Rs' (including current), and 1 AMG (A45) that I am trying to forget it was that terrible and ownership experience. All of them have been sublime cars in their own right.
Luckily I noticed a massively specc'd RS5 appear a couple of days before and when I got down there, there was a 2017 RS6 PE sat next to it. I was shocked at how dated the 6 looked in every way (they still look aggressive as hell and are brilliant). One test drive of the 5 and I was smitten. Tech, build quality, delivery etc etc etc. Dropped a deposit there and then which was wise as it was getting a lot of interest (the spec is that good). Turns out the previous owner had it two years, put £2k worth of PPF on it and also spent £83k buying it! It has literally every option except CCB and heated steering wheel. Also did around 5k miles a year so it ticks every box going. Audi did me a fair deal and managed a weeks drive before the UK locked down.
My previous steer was a 2017 BMW M3 Competition Pack & those things rock and roll. The handling is unreal and the harder it goes the better it gets (by then you are doing silly speeds though). Truly a brilliant drivers car. After 6 months or so out of that (sold it at a great time and lost almost no money on the sale which was a first for me) maybe I'd got unused to fast cars.....so much so that when I opened the taps on a back road going home I had to reel it in quickly as quite frankly it scared the crap out of me! They absolutely fly these things and the handling is surprisingly good...not M car good but it's close and in all weathers as well. Build quality and tech makes the M (and even latest BMW's) look dated.
Good points are pretty much everything. Mine is fully blacked out so it's proper stealth and that's where the bad points come in: noise, or lack of it.
The engine and exhaust (and mine has sports exhaust) are just too smooth for their own good. The M sounded good, the RS6 in V8 was great as was my RS6 V10 (with catback Milltek) so its really disappointing to say the least. So-first mod will almost definitely be a non-res Milltek catback. Heard a race version demo'd fro me a few weeks ago and it sounded a thousand times better. After that get the steering wheel fully alcantara'd up and then maybe some floor mats.
Tuning wise....unsure right now. Probably only go to Stage 1 if I do as its quick enough as it is for now. Approached one of the well known german tuners and they came back with a non warranty friendly £4500.00 and that's

for up to 510 bhp only. Crazy price.
Anyway that's it for now here's a few on the car itself.

Welcome to Audi-sport.net. Nice car. :)

I had a JFA tuning box on my RS4, made a huge difference. I got rid of mine mostly as it was too quiet for me :(

Debating the tuning route right now. And the Milltek (or similar) is a must imo. Didn’t you consider an exhaust or have you gone a different route now? They are really quiet which isn’t in keeping with the RS ethos I reckon.

Hi
I’m a new owner in fact so new I’m picking up my 2018 RS5 tomorrow. Hoping I’m going to love but I know I’m going to want to upgrade the exhaust please let me know what your plans are. I want more drama but also able to keep it quiet on early morning start up and parking at the golf club :)
guess I want an exhaust that still uses flaps through the dynamic button etc if that’s possible. Seems Miltech and AWE are the main players

Hi Howard, congrats on the purchase am
Sure you’ll love it-mine continues to impress me every time I drive it. Lots of hidden talents these cars.
The biggest gripe is still noise. The engine and exhaust just don’t really cut it am afraid. It’s all far too smooth for its own good!
Exhaust options seem to be either get a custom job by firms such as PCW Mods (cheapest option) but basically they butcher your existing exhaust.
If you want switchable then a resonated exhaust may be the way-I’m going for a non res race exhaust by Milltek which is pretty loud (gives you an extra 10-20 bhp which is a bonus). They’re pretty expensive (around £2400) but added bonus is you can get a
Fair chunk of that back selling it back on. No one seems to have second hand ones for sale. I’ve had my 5 since March and have seen a grand total of 3 on the roads. Rare cars which is again a nice bonus.
Lead time on exhausts is currently around 1 month it looks like. I had an order in but for whatever reason it never came so after 7 weeks frustrating wait I pulled the plug and am about to order from a different vendor.

Yep. Can’t wait until tomorrow
I tested c63 m4 and Alfa Quad. Nearly went for the Alfa just concerned with reliability and the Audi is such a great cockpit
I think I’ll contact Miltech and get some info as I don’t really understand about res and non-res

Didn't change the exhaust but got the Cete valve control. Did help but not enough for me. Sold it in 2019 after just a year. Shame as otherwise an awesome car.

TX.

Edit - also had PCW cut up the back box!

I had the same issue with the manual but mine came with a hardback one so haven’t taken it further.
The A button is to disable the auto stop/start.
Has the speed scared you yet? First time I took it down a favourite back road I did a fast
Overtake on a straight and my ar5e dropped out. Deceptively quick these motors.

All motorway and Had the wife with me so haven’t given it much stick yet although I had a demonstrator out for a couple of hours on B roads and that’s why I’ve bought one :) plus I’m in a couple of car groups and it’s mainly BMs and Merc s so hoping I’ll have them off the line
Re that button mine seems to be on the flat dash next to the driving modes switch very similar symbols on the switches surely don’t do the same thing ?

Would any of you mind letting me know what oil temperatures you're seeing when driving spiritedly?

Also OP get rid of those Conti tyres and get some Michelin PS4S, transforms the handling...
