RS Grill finally fitted

Not yet. But your idea is probably the best test. I'll dry run it with my existing oem sensors and see how they fit before I make any decisions.

I have to get that headlight in so either way, I need to remove the bumper first.

Going steady should take you no more than a couple of hours first time around

there are two tricky parts
1) is locating the hidden 10mm bolt up behind the wheel arch
2) is levering the grill off; you’re either going to need another set of hands or lots of flat head screwdrivers to stop the clips popping back in

Once the grill is off the new one simply clips back in :)

i think it's all the hassle with the sensor fitting that puts me off

Well that’s where you’re going wrong.........DONT put them back in  i never put mine back in when i fitted the grill. Bodyshop wasn’t happy when it went in for repairs a couple of years ago as he spent ages trying to find them to remove them lol

There’s literally one multi plug for the bumper & the hose for the headlamp washers. Then the 2 Centre parking sensors which you do when the bumper is off & swapping the grill over.

Yes mate, no issues pulling that out. Just four screws really. In hindsight, I should have checked the alignment of the shut lines around the headlight before I put the bumper back on. It wasn't even first time and had to take the driver side off again to shift the assembly around until it was right.

Hi Duck A4! I see you have an Allroad. I've just picked one up and want to RS the grill also.
Did you have to find a special grill for the Allroad, or will all all the C7 RS grills also fit the Allroad?
Cheers

Hey buddy. It was a C7 face-lift grille, from 2014-2017 I think. Part number 4G0853653T so you can check on fleabay

I didn't get it from a vendor, just some guy who had it on his C7 saloon.

There was one thing that I needed to adjust to allow the fit. Although I didn't have to modify the new grille itself, it was a 2cm plastic nub on the bumper that I had to get a dremmel to cut off so the new grille could clip in.

Brilliant, thanks. I'm pretty dremel proficient, so should be all good in that case.

Yeah, figured i'd at least have to get the right C7 grill pre/post facelift. Just wasn't sure if the Allroad grill shape and fitting was different from a normal C7. Which doesn't seem to be the case. I'll commence ebay hunting - just deciding on whether to have a chrome surround or not.

Ha ha! That's the hardest part mate, deciding on how it looks! Good luck on your search, post a pic when it's done if you can

There’s a really good guy on Instagram called “freshmodsuk” if you drop him a message with exactly what you’re after (grille style, pre/post facelift, badge colour, surround colour etc.) he should be able to source you one at a good price!

I really struggled finding one when I bought mine, and he came through with exactly what I wanted, at a cheaper price than flea at :)

That's okay mate, but afraid I sold that a while back but forgot to mark it off. Sorry mate.

If you can't find a cheap set, check the part number with ebay.

Actually had a bit of a nightmare. Ordered a grill from ebay, which allegedly was correct (pre-facelift) but it was about 10mm too tall. Couldn't be bothered attempting to return it as was from China, so got choppy and fibreglassy. Seems to have come out ok - just need to get that bottom silver lip painted now.

That looks good though mate, nice work on the mod-mods!

A lick of paint would certainly disguise any amendments on the bottom chrome bit, but maybe you would consider it getting them wrapped?

I had my aluminium trim wrapped the other month. I've since driven it through wet, muddy and sandy environments with no evidence of it peeling off.

Yeah I'll paint the silver lip. The chrome edge I'll possibly get wrapped. I'll see what I can botch in the meantime - getting the whole thing wrapped just because of 10mm section grates somewhat. In an ideal world, I'd probably go full de-chrome, but there is a ALOT of chrome to cover/change and I'm never going to get round to doing it all.

I've got some RS style rear stuff to fit in due course - spoiler and boot window surrounds. Hopefully there will be less dremel and fiberglass required...

Well here's hoping for a nice clean look whatever you decide to do.

The new grille is a massive improvement!

Was that one of those 140/150 quid jobbies from China?
I have been thinking about one of those, but if it doesn't fit, I'll pass - can't be doing with all that grp faffing!

Yep exactly. However, further research suggests it might have been my bad.
Pre-face lift Allroad grills would appear to be completely different from the usual C7. Nowhere seems to do a straight swap for these.
Post-face lift Allroad grills appear to be pretty interchangeable for any C7 grill.
Depends if you're pre or post. It took about 3 weeks to get delivered and quality seems alright - at least it didn't fall apart whilst I was tampering with it significantly.
The actual modding wasn't too bad once I figured out what to do. Although I do have a lot of experience with a dremel and fibreglass (doing marine based repairs).
If you've got any further qs, feel free to interrogate...

I've discovered you can buy chrome wrapping tape (20mm x 10m) - this is probably the route I'll go down.
