Next model A3

I got mine just before all this "covid" kicked in and managed to get a few grand off ... not sure that has any bearing on the market now.
I was a cash sale though with no part ex and was happy to take a pre-ordered car ... it all fell into place.

Macclesfield Merc were a waste of time.
No proper Test drive (only 8 miles offered) and no discount.
I’ve since gone off the idea of the A45s.

I’m really pleased with the car mate & it definitely has that ‘special feel’ that my RS3 had. It feels very high end & premium & no squeaks or rattles inside and importantly no squealing brakes outside lol :)

The sound is no match for the RS3 of course but everything else it ticks all the boxes. I’m sure I will consider another RS3 at some point in the future but the A45 is a great replacement so far :icon thumright:

It is annoying when dealers do this. Expect you to buy after just a few minutes round the block.

I've found Audi one of the best. Chucked me the keys and said to bring it back once it runs out of fuel. BMW were also very good. Wanted a set time to bring it back, but I could chose the time.

Ford were ridiculous. I could test drive the car (Fiesta ST) for as long as I wanted, just as long as a salesman sat in the car with me throughout. Having to make small talk for a couple hours, and wasn't able to test drive the car as I wanted to. And it took me over a year to get a test drive. Constantly lied to saying they had an ST in, then you find out it's only an ST-Line. Or phoning up on the morning I'd arranged to test drive an ST, that the salesman who has the ST doesn't work on Tuesdays. So why book me in for a test drive of the ST on the Tuesday? Annoying.

Mercedes were the one who though a 10 minute test drive was good enough for me to buy an A35 AMG. Even though before hand I asked for an extended drive. I did eventually get the car for a few hours, after the salesman realised I wasn't going to buy based on a 10 minute drive. I'm pleased he did give me the car, as it made my mind up that it wasn't quite the car for me.

In times where car sales are down, you'd think they'd be desperate to get people out in their cars.

It’s laughable really.
This is a reply from Stockport super centre which is the largest in Europe they say.

More interested in selling unseen I think.
Laughed at the spec up part as there are two flavours 51k and 56k

I think a lot comes down to the Dealer Group too.

I bought all my Audi's from JCT 600 and the Merc Garage was also JCT 600 and they were superb just like Audi were.

Plus the Merc Garage had a Demo car (I also would not have bought without a drive)

BMW in my experience have been the only dealership to offer extended test drives.

Anywhere else has been unwilling to do this, I find it completely unreasonable for dealerships to expect customers to make a decision they will in most cases have to live with for 3 or more years based on a 30 minute test drive with a sales person sitting next to you.

My sons dealership wont let cars/demonstrators be taken out until they fit front and rear dash cams....so maybe this could be the reason for a lot of dealerships not giving unattended test drives or none at all....I could of test drove any car l felt like driving with Glasgow Audi....but l didnt

My local JCT600 don’t do extended test drives anymore unless you have a salesman sat next to you, apparently they’ve had too many issues and it’s now company policy.

Totally different to when I was ordering my first S3 in 2016, even though I was just 20 I picked the car up in the morning and was told I could have it for the day as long as it was back before they shut!

A friend of mine was given one of the new Z4's from our local BMW dealership for the weekend, there wasn't any issues in doing this.

Frankly if you are spending 30, 40, 50k with these places it should be expected. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect this, I certainly won't be making my next purchase on the basis of a 30 minute test drive.

Certainly not the case with Cotswold BMW, I have driven a few and not a dashcam in sight. And for as long as I want no salesman in the car. Definitely down to dealers imho

Age can be an issue with a dealership not letting you test drive unless there is a salesman present, and insurance as hiring/renting a car. I have had no issues with having a dealer demo car for as long as a day. Mind you I am an old fart, but young at heart. Salesman are also pretty good at judging tyre kickers and youth out for joy rides.
Also, I have never seen a dealer demo or service loaner car with dashcams, as of this date.

My local Audi dealer gave me an RS3 for 24hrs with no issues. I’ve a very good relationship with them, and maybe that made it easy, but no complaints from me with getting what I need from them.

Within a few hours should tell you if a car is right for yourself.....or not as they drive all too similarly now....takes more time to figure out a cars MMI than how it drives these days

Well for me it looks like a 2 series

Get where your coming from firstly the BMW 2 series comes in a very similar burnt orange metallic paint colour and the rear wings which are heavily sculpted into the doors but that's where the resemblance ends, the only place that the new A3 saloon improves on externally is at the front as its far more aggressive looking

I put a tablet in my Audi instead of the factory screen so that I could watch movies, play games and bier haus slot. Plus put a higher quality rear view camera.
