New tyre time for the b9

Thanks Dingah

I’ve gone with Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 5 as they were on offer (£122 each fitted at home after offer and cash back in 255-35-19).

Will the 255 fit? I have 245 currently. 255 are a lot cheaper!

...I ****** hope so!

Read on here and Audizine lots of people changing to 255-35. I did it because the 245 looks a bit skinny on the OEM 8.5” rim and changing to 9” rim would make this worse.

Very minor difference to speedo reading according to willtheyfit.com

I had Pirelli P Zero Rossos on a 2010 A3 Sportback. Beautifully quiet tyre and no complaints about braking or wet weather handling, but I had to replace the fronts after just 14,000 miles of not particularly spirited driving. My tyre depot fixed me up with a harder wearing Pirelli - can’t remember which - and they were much better wear-wise.

I’ve just replaced the Bridgestone Turanzas on my A4. The fronts weren’t far off the wear indicators, but there was 4mm left on the rears. After just 3 years and about 22,000 miles they had all perished round the edges with cracks in the shoulders. Not an MOT failure and my tyre depot said that perishing is not dangerous all the while no cord is visible. However, after a few more miles I was not happy with the condition and the perishing on one of the rears was getting worse so I changed them for a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx SP2s. My wife has them on her A3 cabrio and after 19,000 miles they’ve worn well, they are not particularly noisy and handling is fine, so I thought I’d try them on my A4.

The other thing about the Bridgestones is that they were incredibly noisy. That was my reason for posting, but I got rather carried away with the perishing issue! It’s too soon to say whether the Dunlops are any quieter, but according to the label they are supposed to be 3 db quieter.

@wideboybloke you can’t go wrong with with any of those tyres. I just find Goodyear to wear nearly as well as say a Michelin PS4 in the premium range but slightly cheaper. Have used Dunlop’s too the predecessor to the one you mentioned. I had a set of Ditchfinders on two wheels after we bought the car and now I’ve got the eagle f1 5 on all corners, it inspires confidence. The larger tyres are not that quiet. Think mine are rated 71db in 255/35/19 if I’m not mistaken. Saying that Uk & Irish roads are not great. Very rough unless it’s recently been built. I have a road near me that basically silent. If only all roads where like that.

OP,
How are you finding the Goodyear Assy 5s? Are they noisy? Considering getting them for my A6 in 255/40/R20 size but read some reviews on tyrereviews.co.uk that they're noisy as hell in 255/40/R20 size! I know you're bought them in 19" but would appreciate your thoughts!
Cheers

Got them on all for corners. They’re rated 71db and on rough roads you can hear every db of it. For me it depends on the road. We have a new motorway where I live and the road is smooth and I don’t hear them. Pump up the tunes.

Yeah I would have loved to gone for the Goodyear F1 Assy 5's as this is arguably the best tyre wrt comfort, and performance is supposed to be amongst the best....yet its considerably cheaper than the Michelin PS4's and Continental CS6. However reports of annoying tyre drone in the 20" variants on tyrereviews.co.uk made me choose the CS6 instead. Hopefully the 'ContiSilent' technology on the CS6 does it job!

How are you getting on with these?
