What Car Care / Detailing Have You Done Today ?

Car hasn’t been used for about 3 weeks, just been sat in the garage gathering dust. So took the long way around to pick up our Tesco’s click and collect order (never thought that box of nitrile gloves I have in the garage would be used for anything other than car cleaning!). Good to put a bit of charge through the battery and enjoyed the quiet roads with the gearbox set to manual and some flappy paddle action (all on the right side of sensible of course).

Then got stuck into a proper clean. Usual pre-wash and contact wash, followed by a chemical decon with tar remover then Korrosol to get the clear coat back to super slick - you don’t necessarily need to to clay a well maintained car, a good chemical decon does the trick without marring. Then washed again to get any product residue off, rinsed, applied some Turtle Wax Dry and Shine (wet coat type stuff - very good value for money), rinsed again and dried her off. Finished off with a coat of Gyeon Cure to seal the paint. Pic below isn’t the greatest - the light was going, but the paint is now super slippery, has a real nice depth of gloss and is protected. Happy.

Then onto all the jobs that usually get ignored. Opened up the pano roof and cleaned out the shuts, and went to town on all the door shuts as well (including all the difficult to reach bits you usually pass over), and gave the engine bay a good clean and wipe down as well. All with Surfex HD and a nice soft Detail Factory brush.

After that I got to work on the interior - I don’t really use dedicated interior products (leather seats aside) - a damp MF spritzed with diluted Surfex HD has always worked well for me. Then deep cleaned and protected the leather interior and steering wheel with the holy trinity of Valet Pro Leather Soap, followed by a ‘feed’ with Colour Lock Leather Protector - good product this, for cars with seats that are more than 3 years old and need a bit of nourishment to stop the leather drying out and cracking - it definitely made the leather feel more supple. Then topped off with Colour Lock Leather Shield (anti-friction coating to help limit wear and tear and dye transfer from jeans etc). Really pleased with the results, the seats were looking a tad shiny, but this process has ‘em nice and matt and looking like new. Still love my Rotor Grey interior - it’s holding up well.

All in, took about 5 hours of blissful zen time. Time for a beer.

Looking great. Can I please ask what dilution rate you are using the Surfex and Perl at.

Surfex 50:50, and Perl about 3:1 if I recall correctly

Hand polishing would not have helped to be honest especially if your not using aat least a plush 380 gsm korean cloth for removal....the spider webs....plus all the visible defects will only be removed via A machine polisher @OCDaveS4
Buy these cloths these are best buffing towels l have ever used wash n dry properly and they'll last you for years View attachment 201889

Gave half of my car a two stage paint correction today, as the sun was being too much of a nuisance I decided to clean the engine bay rather than finishing off the correction, it's the first time I've cleaned the engine bay and I'd like a blow dryer before I attempt to get every inch of it but I'm happy with it for now. Very happy with how the correction turned out, although it does need some further refinements to make it perfect, I'm happy with it for now, it's worlds better than the other side of the car which I will hopefully correct tomorrow. Cannot wait to get the 18" monzas on to bring it all together.

I have read some horror stories about marring being caused by claying.
I am worried that that the clay may damage my own paint. I plan to polish by hand. The car is five years old and has not been polished within the last year.

Is it necessary to clay my car before polishing? Can I use a fallout remover instead of clay?

I much prefer them to a clay bar, they cover a larger area and work just as well with less marring in my experience, keep it well lubricated and you'll be fine, any marks will polish out.

Buy yourself some Bilt Hamber Korrosol 500 ml spray it on to a dry car neat out of direct sunlight let it dwell for 7 mins approx,also buy bilt hamber wheel cleaner 500ml and dilute to 1 litre spray it on the wheels leave to dwell for 7 mins....rinse with a power washer do both at the same time then wash the car....and feel how smooth the paint is afterwards.....you will mar the paint with a clay bar ie leaving the hologram effect which will be more noticeable on the doors,bonnet and roof....rule 1 of detailing always try the least aggressive way first

Do all of this. But you want the paint as clean as possible so you will want to clay it before polishing. Claying your car with marr it but will also take off all the stuff the the other processes failed to remove. But you should be able to polish out any marring to the clear coat.

I had my car multi stage paint correction done then a coating of kamikaze ism v20 ceramic coating applied but pricey but I have had it put on my last three cars it’s fantastic stuff, washing the car now is so much easier too and after it’s all washed I apply an application of kamikaze overcoat which gives the coating a sacrificial coating on it.

Only going by experience least aggressive first....claying a car is aggressive not in its application but it's the side effects it leaves....so if your after some form of paint perfection by all means clay yer car but you'd better have a machine polisher at hand to correct the paint afterwards ....fact and not a sweeping statement...nor subjective ....what's is subjective is standards of paint finish a person is willing to accept

Not so much detailing but finally got round to putting my summer wheels back on. Didn't trust the jack the car comes with so will detail arches once I have some axle stands!

Spent an hour or so swapping my taillights to the OEM smoked version courtesy of Simon on here! Will be making a post on how to do it, as found no articles for the B9 model on swapping lights and encountered a few small obstacles so hopefully will help someone else in the future.

Spent an hour or so swapping my taillights to the OEM smoked version courtesy of Simon on here! Will be making a post on how to do it, as found no articles for the B9 model on swapping lights and encountered a few small obstacles so hopefully will help someone else in the future.

Boohoo...lol besides l am correct in what l said...about claying and machine polishing.....l have a Red Jag F type next week to machine polish and apply Autoglyms new Ceramic coating too of which l will l might use a mild/soft variant of clay on it just in case but doubtful as its only a few months old

About 2 hours work with MF cloth and an old kitchen scourer to get the tips as new as possible. Letting them dry off and will buff off tomorrow and apply some CC Platinum wheels to em, will hopefully make them easier to keep clean.

Yeah, good job Adam - mine took me a whole afternoon and they were so bad had to start with emery paper then move down to 000 steel wool. Not looking too bad now, but still more to do. The (67 plate) car was immaculate from the dealer aside from the tips.

Cheers mate. Yeah as do I but figured if I'm gonna apply some ceramic coating I wanted them as clean as I can. Not perfect there's still black speckles on the very end, certainly was hard work but not like there's much else to do haha
