2018 RS3 Servicing

I have a 2018 FL RS3, registered in June 2018 and has now done about 9000 miles. I've never been very clear on what it's service requirements are and my local dealer aren't that much help. It's last service was in July last year, at about 5k miles. It been asking for this inspection service since March and is now technically overdue? At which point the car was only 20 months old. I haven't rushed to do anything about this because they car is barely being used at all at the moment, due to the lockdown, but I guess I have to keep up some elements of the schedule for the warranty. I just called them and they say that the 2-year service will be due soon which I understand, but I think that's an oil service, not the inspection service it's been asking for since March.

Am I right that the RS3 should be on fixed servicing? I want to understand what the schedule should look like instead of just bending over and taking what my dealer says it needs.

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like you are meeting the criteria for time based servicing as an oil change is 9800 miles or 1 year

Inspection 2nd service is at around 19k / 2 year period

So the car is correct to ask for a service / inspection, it’s using the time period because you are reaching the limit on that first.

My second service was an oil change and a Air con re-gas.

Obviously the dealer will check wear & tear items like brake discs / pads etc

RS3 can be on fixed (9000 mile/365days) or flexible (unto 19,000 miles, or 24 months, ECU will determine when it wants a service).

This was confirmed to me by Audi UK after the main dealer moved me to the fixed services schedule and told me it was THE only way possible.
Still maintain they did this as it lines their pockets a little more.

Car will no longer be going back to main dealer, if main dealer doesn't know the correct service schedules for the car, I don't see why they should even have my custom.

The thing is, the oil change interval makes sense. It's pretty much annually and I imagine the car gets inspected then also. However, the inspection service that is now 44 days overdue is the one I don't understand. It's £200 and if I'd have had that done when requested, it would have been going back in 4-6months later for another service.

The most frustrating part of this is that one of my best friends runs a very reputable performance car specialist garage, I trust him 100 times more, but I've been worried about the impact on the value/saleability of not having the Audi 'stamp' on the service history.

I had mine done at a reputable independent because i was tired of Audi's incompetence, as long as they follow Audi servicing procedures and use the correct OEM parts you'll be fine, just make sure they can update Erwin online so you'll have the record of any works completed.

All the above on your screen can be reset at the time of the second service.

Do you think I should defer the inspection service then? ...and just get everything done for the second annual service?

Audi price-matched my independent mates garage for the first year service, came in at about £165 all in, following an original quote of around £300. Hopefully they'll do a similar thing, or I might just leave them behind and arrange it myself.

I've just created his ErWin profile so the service record can be sorted. He isn't a VAG specialist, he works mainly on fast road/track/race Evo's (he has a 700+bhp track Evo himself).

Get the inspection service / Oil change all done as one.

I've just looked at mine from October and i had done

Pollen filter (OEM)
Air con Service (2 year interval)
Oil and Filter change (OEM filter and Castrol Edge pro)

£180 at Vagtechnik in Mcr.

You gotta be careful at Audi main dealers because some will not include an oil & filter change in an Inspection service.

If you get the lot done at the same time then all the MMi service can be reset.

Me, i avoid em like the plague............all the ones around my area i wouldn't trust to change a wheel bolt.

I actually had a free service to use up on the inspection, so could've gone to Audi and it would've cost me nothing, but I'm afraid I'd sooner pay someone to do a proper job than get a poor freebie.

Similar experience with a main dealer....

Went in for first service, which they then cocked up all the scheduling, they then wanted me to return to the dealer 60 days later for the inspection service... when I questioned why it all wasn't done as one they really couldn't answer me, they offered me a gesture of goodwill to do it for £150 (they are literally just looking round the car and changing the pollen filter at a main dealer). - they had already looked round the car via Aud-cam and wanted a few bits doing there too.

I will be taking it to a specialist who can also update the online record, Main dealers (round here anyway) do not care about you or the car, they don't know the scheduling and the managers only care about one thing... the $$$, they can sod off, I will never use them again.

Not sure, I know Gary thru a couple of mutual freinds (Stu Staples and Logan Black) and he remapped my S5 last April.

I'm only browsing this section of the forum as I have massive itch for an RS3 saloon........it started around 2 years ago, but I held off and bought another S5....but it's still there and won't go away. I was hoping by looking at the RS3 sections, they'd be enough posts to put me off looking to change my car.

I want one purely for the noise the engine makes and I bleme that on being a teenager in the 80's...........

When 8V saloon came out I promised myself I'd one day own the 8V RS3 Saloon if they ever did one. That itch doesn't go away and you'll be glad you went for it.
