New A3 with fingerprint recognition

Just configured a new Audi A3 and it says central locking with fingerprint.

I've included screenshots below I don't know if anyone knows what this is about other than the obvious suggestion from the name.

I imagine it’s similar to two stage authentication, you use a fingerprint to unlock the car rather than just walking up to it with the keys.

most likely to combat key cloning while still maintaining an element of keyless entry.

Sums up exactly my thoughts. Second layer security for keyless entry.

It's through an Android app that you can also use as your normal keys.
