Hi Adam,

You don’t mention whether your car is manual or automatic, but I would stick with the genuine oil. Gearbox is one of those things that if it goes wrong, it will be costly. The official capacity is around 7 litres, though in my experience it’s always taken around 4.5-5 litres to fill up since some of the old oil remains in the gearbox.

Genuine , genuine , I know Audi makes it...

Surely , surely , he would of mentioned the crucial letters ATF , we hope..

I repair cars from ranging from engine rebuilds, to servicing, so I’m sure I don’t need your sarcastic remarks. I know Audi don’t make the oil but when it comes to gearbox fluids, better to be safe than sorry.

Also why would I assume he has a manual, when most posts on here are regarding DSG oil changes?

He seems to of ordered confidently and both suggestions have manual transmission front lables.

It's not down to me , if incorrect , Specsaver vouchers will be suggested instead .

Well the OP didn’t state in his post whether his car was a manual or an automatic, so I can only assume you either knew beforehand he had a manual car from previous dealings, or just assumed he had a manual which I wouldn’t do.

Sorry guys,

yes manual transmission, I did have a browse about and kept seeing around 2.3 ltr was the number I was getting but it seems pretty low.

I normally order the parts and as my car guy to do the work, he normally checks over and if any thing not good he let me know.

thanks both.

What are the benefits of changing the oil in a manual gearbox ? And what would happen if the original oil is left in for good few years ?

My last 2011 1.4 tfsi a3 manual needed a gearbox recondition at around 88k miles could this have been caused by never having had gearbox oil changed as dont want to it to happen on my 2014 1.8 manual that i have now

It's this wrecking ball of making VAG servicing seem affordable , along with LongLife engine oil change intervals .

They even do it with ATF with more expensive ZF Tiptronic Semi Auto gearboxes sealed for life BS .

Contact ZF and they'll give you an interval !

Manual gearbox oil oxidises over time and thickens up , this particularly affects the early gear changes from cold and more so in winter .

My 2009 1.4tfsi manual needed a gearbox recondition at 67k miles! Two other people I know also had to have theirs done. I’ve also read on forums that others have had the same issue. I think the 1.4 gearbox was made of chocolate.
