Good you have taken it back and left it with them.

Have you phoned your insurer / other party insurer and told them that repair rejected as it should hold the payment to body shop and a greater incentive for them to fix it properly rather than quietly.

One of the things I have learned about sub standard repairs is that it’s more effective to dump / leave the car with them rather than agree to take car away and bring it back or ‘live with it and we’ll see what we can do’.

Emailed my insurance last night. See what comes back. They were all smiles and accommodating to start with, but as time went on and I kept going back in the atmosphere changed. No laughing, smiling, interaction. I'm one of those customers!

You have every right to be ‘one of those customers’. The acceptable standard of repairs seems to be going down as there is more focus on speed and number of cars through the door as most people don’t notice the smaller things and it’s a wake up when someone doesn’t accept work of inadequate quality.

Yet another update. Got my car back today only for it to have several issues. I get in the car, it shows the bonnet open. I pop it and close it. No good. Get them out and they mess with the latches. All good. Inside of the car looks like it's been through a field. Boot marks and dirt on all the door trim, bonnet latch trim. Turn the car on. Engine management light. Turns out to be lamda sensor. Maybe my sports cat. Gets cleared all good. Take car away. Stop/ start not working. I hate it at the best of times. Needs to go to Audi to be looked at.
Have a look round the car at home.
Bonnet is not sitting level drivers side is raised at the hinge
Passenger door where the wing had touched still had the paint chip all be it painted over.
Bonnet open came on again.
Alloy wheel which I thought was being replaced was refurbed by a blind monkey. Chips all over, as if they'd gone at the diamond cut to vigorously.
Goes back, he takes pictures. He asks if I'll live with it and he'll order parts and see if he can get a new alloy through insurance. Says ok goes home.
Thought I'd check out the machine polish I payed them £360 for. Bit shocked to see under torch light as it's a dull overcast day, that it was exactly the same as it went in. Called them and he said it's been machine polished but that it. I think a bit of miss communication. I was under the impression that all the fine marring would be machined out. Nope, just a polish. So £360 for what I've done myself in the past.
Get in the car, turns it on and low and behold my dipped beam on the side that was bumped has failed. It's a new cluster.
On the phone again. I asked to bring it In as it's no use to me with one headlight. So they're keeping it to get it sorted.
He said he would speak to the body shop guys see if theres anything they can do with the paint polish.
To top it all off I handed back a 69 plate 4 series coupe and I left with a skoda fabia. Receptionist says bring it back as you find it. No smoking or pets. I got in it and to me it stank of wet dog. 18 plate. Inside looked more like a £500 rot box. Seats were all stained. Car was a mess. I'll catch a break at some point. Sorry for the rant.

That doesn't sound good. Where did you get the work carried out? Name and shame. They sound like Cowboys

Thing is, when a car comes into a body shop they are making a fortune through the insurance. So get'em in, do'em up, and get'em out again. Sod the quality, the next car is on it's way in. I hate having to go round body shops for quotes, as I always think everyone of them is going to do a poor job.

When things like this happen, it knocks how you feel about the car. And even more so if little things aren't quite right or keep going wrong. After my S3 got a new engine, it never felt the same after that. Kept it for just over 6 months, and then PX'd it for something else.

What a nightmare mate, and completely agree with @wab172uk , clearly shoddy work and or QC.
Hopefully you get it all sorted.

I would recommend viewing and going through car and control in a well lit workshop before you take it back next time.
I was offered this by the BMW bodyshop when I had the incident with a small deer late last year, and couldn't fault the service/work etc.

Insurance tried to push me down the "use one of our approved repairers" (who incidentally weren't BMW approved, but use genuine parts.
I declined and insisted on the BMW Approved bodyshop

Sadly this is exactly what you'd expect nowadays. Noone has any pride in the work they do.

I absolutely dread any of my cars even going in for "servicing" as nine times out of ten they come out in worse condition than they went in. But its a stamp in the book. *sigh*

To 85% of car users, cars are just "white goods". They get folk from A to B.

If your insurance are paying for the repair I would get in touch with their manager and complain. and ask for a better courtesy car as you will be taking potential customers out and it doesn't make a good impression when the car is junk and in a state .

It is terrible. I know I asked last minute last evening, but it really does stink. I have to drive with the windows open and I wipe my feet as I get out. Will be calling them tomorrow morning for an update, will definitely be mentioning the car.

Just spoke to Richard at Ford accident repair. He said that they polished it and thought it looked great. He went on a out light spectrum and angled and the like. Paint colours and paint types. Luckily the sun came out at the opportune moment and I said look there. You could see the marring and hazing, like spiders webs all over the car. He agreed he saw what I was looking at. He said he couldn't comment on what the car has looked like over the past couple of years I've had it. Just that they polished it and thought theyde done a good job. He's going to speak to the manager and get a way ahead. Whether I take it elsewhere or they re do the polish. He said hed done detailing in the past and this is not what had done. He mentioned wet sanding. I said that's not what I'm on about. The car is not bad enough to need that. Also they're waiting to hear back about the two alloys that were butchered when refurbed. To see if they can be replaced. Reminded them if they send it to Audi to ensure they inform them it's been mapped so they dont update anything and wipe my MAPS. Still sat outside not beentouched since Tuesday. Think I may be burning any bridges I had with Ford accident Repair. Like sending a burger back and getting a replacement with who knows what additional nutrients in it LOL.

I had a marring & hologram issue on my old car when it came out of the body shop. Was not happy.

I insisted on confirmation from them that for inspection there were no waxes or fillers - no Gtechiq or Swissvax or whatever - just naked lacquer.

I don’t know what type of paint they used but I understood that the newer paints take ~4 weeks to cure properly and polishing this soon is a bad idea as milky ‘blooms’ can appear as it finishes curing.

If they have done that marring over the entire car including undamaged panels they had not sprayed then suggest getting a professional detailer to look at it and see what they recommend as that would support the ‘next steps’ discussion with the body shop.

Gave me a giggle. Going back to Ford at 5 tonight. Work shifts, so have to disappear stealth like to go and see the progress. Had a call to say they've had a go with some compound. Want my opinion before they go further. This from a guy that says he used to detail cars. If it's right he's the one that should know!

"had a go with some compound" doesn't sound too encouraging does it?!!! I really hope it all works out ok, but it sounds like its heading towards getting a professional detailer recommended off this forum to do it, reimbursed by your garage .....

Sorry got a bit distracted. All good. Does need a bit of cleaning inside. I think 6 weeks of work shop dust took its toll. I got a new alloy after complaining about the shoddy refurb. Got the refurbed alloy in the boot. Stop start still not activating but I hate it anyway. Will see what it's like after a decent long drive. Paint is good but not perfect. Every issue was sorted. So I'm happy for now. Will get it cleaned and get some pictures up. Glad to get rid of the rot box stink of a courtesy car.
