Retrimed steering wheel

I am currently awaiting wheel from them.

Must say, great work and quality they do.

Top tip: make sure you clear all details with them of how you want the wheel to be done.
My wheel was with me already 2 weeks ago but they haven't done it the way I wanted so sent it back to redo.
They weren't happy and called me, emailed me, to keep the wheel the way they did it.
No sir!

Attached picture of the wheel they sent me.
Soon as I picked out of the box my face just smiled. Really great job

What sort of cost is involved these days. Back in 2015 the original post on here quoted £130 - £145. I see you've deleted the gloss black lower cover that the S3 sits on. Is yours a FL wheel? Did you strip it yourself to post? Looks good.

I had my S3 8V wheel trimmed a couple of years ago, cost roughly £150 + the postage both ways, luckily it was a direct swap into my SQ5
I paid a similar price for my 8P wheel a couple of years earlier

The perforated parts look good but dont have the depth that a oem wheel has and has far more perforations but for that amount of money its good value

I paid £220 for the wheel+£9.99 for the shipping.
On top if that, refunable deposit of £100 as the wheel is on replacement basis. They'll do it for you, you swap it and send them your old one.
That way, you get the car on the road.

Mine is FL A6 C6 2010 Avant

I didn't wanted plain leather so opted for perforated instead.
Feel and grip on that wheel is wicked. Like a new car. Only I was holding it being at work

Dont like plain leather myself ,the perforations on the right hand side of my steering wheel from the factory where a lot shallower than on the left hand side and its really beginning to show 2 and half years down the line

Oh btw, they are retriming my gear gaiter in alcantara.
Another accent to match steering wheel.
Only £40

Planning to diy my headliner+pillars in suede/alcantara to match all seats and those two.
Should come out good

That will look really nice, I have the Alcantara headliner as an option on the SQ5 and it looks great.

That I really like. Think I may have to bite the said bullet and get that. If you do the exchange, silly question. Do you get a decent wheel equivalent condition to the one you send? Is your wheel got a specific number to order? How did you spec that one? Mines a manual.

Basically if you send him your requirements via the contact form and include the make and model of car, he will get back to you with a price and if he has a wheel in stock.
He then trims that one up (hence the deposit) sends it out for you to swap over and when he receives yours back you get the deposit refunded.
There are loads of options including smooth leather, punched leather, different coloured stitching and Alcantara.
There are also loads of images on the website for ideas.
I went for the silver stripe/stitching as I had the lunar silver interior.
Luckily it matches the stitching on the seats in my SQ5 so I swapped it over prior to my S3 going...the wheel is the same fitment

Really nice wheel.
Is that picture recent?
Wondering how the materials wear off. I know it is depending on usage but regular and taking in to consideration top notch materials they say they use.

I wanted seams like yours but they did it as in attached picture. Didn't liked it so they have to redo it now.

Please remember, wheels for replacement require whole electronics and badged transfer by yourself. That is badges, buttons etc.

That would have been taken in october/november 18 and it still looks the same today apart from the badge is different lol.
Swapping is fairly easy as long as you have the correct spline bit to remove the wheel.
Keep the ignition off and the airbag is safe to remove

Rally good looking wheel, as for 1.5 year usage

As I will have only flat bottom bit in alcantara so hope it will not get shiny so quick.

This is how I had my 8P wheel done.
Slightly different with smooth leather at the bottom instead of Alcantara, I also had it wrapped slightly thicker.
The 8V wheel is already thicker so doesnt need that

Is it a DIY job to strip the wheel for shipping?

As long as you have the spline bit to remove the wheel then yes absolutely.
The airbag can be tricky to pop off as its held on by spring clips which have to be popped off from the back, you tube is your friend for that.
Then it's just a case of swapping everything over.
I'd say it can be done in 20 minutes

I used these guys late last year, great service. Only 5 mins away from my house so no need to strip the wheel out myself.

Pic below....

Really nice. I really do like the perforated leather and alcantara mix. Think I'll have to get the 12 o'clock marker as well.

For me, alcantara and perforated leather was also great choice but don't think that alcantara at the top of the wheel would last long with my palms.

Looking at you wheels guys, someone really messed up mine in there.
Seams they did on mine are not like yours but they were insisting, this is their new standard design)way of them.
That kind of bo11ocks they can tell their wife's, not me.
Hope they can finish it off for me before national lockdown.

yea I did wonder about the top of the wheel deteriorating but I usually hold the wheel at 3 & 9 o’clock so thought I’d take a gamble.
Early days yet I know, time will tell.

Well my inquiry went in this morning. Looking at going up there to get them to do the removal / refit work. I used @-Ju- picture as a reference for what I'm after. With the current UK situation I'm not sure on timings. Got some leather knee pads that I'm I'm enquiring about too. See if I can get them in Alcantara with red stitching.

Surely they can do them for you but they'll probably rip these apart.

I've sent my oem gear gaitor as they didn't had one for sizing. I requested it back hoping it will be still in one piece.
I've diy stitching change from black to red and would be a pity to just ruin it.

Yes.
That's what I did.
You just need to submit your order inline and they will let you know if requested wheel to your car is in stock. Then, they will make it flat bottom and trim it as you want.

That looks really nice with the perforated leather. Not a big fan of alcantara on the steering.
It's an extra £330. But I reckon itll be worth it in the end.

Gonna need more info on why it looks that bad mate.

Because, IMHO, the carbon fibre really spoils the look of the wheel, and makes it look like the sort of wheel that Halfrauds would sell to boy racers trying to jazz-up their £100 banger!!! :whistle2::whistle2:

Perforated leather looks far classier :icon thumright:

I sort of get what your saying, but carbon fibre and perforated leather in my opinion just enhances the look of the interior. If halfords sold a wheel or a cover like that I think they'd make a killing. It was a hard choice but the carbon won me over. My second choice was a non starter. LoL

It's the shiny bits that spoil it.

IMHO, of course.

Shiny steering wheels make me think of minicabs with sticky seats and greasy windows, things dangling from the mirror and the smell of fags, Special Brew and last night's kebab.

Some of which is still putrefying under the front passenger seat.
