Tyres...... looking for taller sidewall

Hi Guys n Gals, had to get my wheels refurbed (again) cos of kerbing
The tyres need replacing anyways so was thinking of getting refurb guy to fit them once wheels are finished.
Currently I've got 245x35x20 tyres and the ride is a little harsh. I was thinking of trying to get a tyre with a larger sidewall to give a little extra cushioning
Refurb guy said I could possibly opt for 235x40x20 but would need to check they fit.
Obvs i have no idea even after googling and using numerous online tyre vendor sites as my wheels arent standard
Dont want to throw the speedo off if I can help it but as they're not standard wheels I'm not sure if I'm stuck with the size already on them
Any ideas??
Might just leave naff tyres on for now and take to a specialist for advice

Could do with knowing the et (offset). Ive had a couple of different sets of 20s on with various tyre sizes. I'd recommend 255 35 which will wrap the tyre more and give a slightly thicker sidewall. If you have anything lower than about et40 then you'll struggle to get a wider size in which case you can only go up to 40 profile but that will be quite high and there's probably a stretch on the wheel so might look odd with a chunky stretch.

From your profile picture it looks like you might have quite an aggressive offset but can't see clearly. On my current setup of et35 my 255 35 tyres rubbed a bit on the rear when fully loaded. I swapped them for 245 35 and it clears it much better with only a tiny bit of rubbing but only at the extremes. The front you have loads of room to play with so it's the rear you need to worry about.

Exactly the same as mine in which case 245 is as wide as you can go without catching on the rears. Unless there's never any weight in the back but given the car you have I'm assuming you do carry stuff, be it people or stuff in the boot.

Get some new tyres and they'll be slightly chunkier with the extra few mm in the new tread.

If you can swap the wheels to an et42 or 48 then you'll easily run 255 35. However, most wheels on the market at 20 inch Audi fitment are et35

Are you running these wheels on S6 or RS6?
I've got A6 and they came with 19" wheels of that design as standard.

Any particular reason you went for 20" when looking for smoother or softer ride or previous wheels were already 20's

I've swapped my wheels for newer RS design but stayed with size if 19" not to throw soeedo off. You've probably already done, a bit.

If you go down in size to 19", you could potentially go to 255 wide tyre and have 40 or 45 profile.

Nah just a bog standard A6. The wheels came with the car and this is the first time I've had to replace the tyres
I must admit I do like the rim size from a visual point of view as they fill the wheel arch nicely but with the roads the way they are and my total inability to keep my wheels away from kerbs I was hoping to get even a slightly larger profile to ease the ride and maybe protect the wheels a tad more
I've seen those rim protector things online but not on a car and not sure I want to advertise that I cant park for toffee lol

Look for some genuine 19s on Facebook market place and Ebay. Then you'll have the option to run chunkier tyres. After upgrading to 20s though i don't think i could go back down to 19s personally lol
