So it’s the third time in the last 3-5 months I’ve had this fault come up. I’m pretty sure it’s because I didn’t drive the car for 2 weeks a while back. And since then just been doing short trips. The fault only lasts for a few hours and then once the battery gets charged up it goes.

The car is coming up to 5.5 years old. So maybe I need a new battery soon. Or does anyone think its worth trying to get one of the 7 stage chargers on the battery to see if it can be topped up further.

Will need to go for a long drive soon.

I had an issue like this for 3 months with my 2014 A7. After going in and out of Audi and few times they finally said the battery was poor and replaced it for me yesterday. I don't have the car back yet but am told it is now working fine so 5.5 years would seem about right for a battery change.

How much did they charge you fella?

Because the fault had been occurring for the 3 months since I bought the car from them, they replaced the battery for free. However they originally quoted about £420.

Damn , I won’t be going to Audi. Any ideas what the specs are??

I'm not quite sure on the specs. Its not a simple swap. Correct me if i'm wrong but you have to get a battery with a BEM code and once fitted in you have to get it coded using VCDS. It's a pain in the backside.

Why don't you just turn Start/Stop off?

I have OBDeleven and live in Hertfordshire so could try to clear any fault codes for you if you think it might help? Cant say if it would fix it though

Thanks mate. I also have obdeleven. I normally take the car for a long drive and I goes away. It’s a weird one tho, because I didn’t drive the car for nearly 10 days and it started fine with no warnings.

Does anything come up on the scan when the car is indicating it is at fault? Not sure if mine has done this before

To be honest I’ve been ill for the last 2 weeks and just haven’t bothered to scan it yet

i was playing round with my obd eleven and managed to get this by dicking about and trying to turn off the function but it showed this message ill try find a screenshot

engine control unit (01) / adaptation / activation of start stop function

i tried turning mine off as i find it a nuisance , also tried memory off but sometimes reverts back to default on if i change any other settings elswhere,, anyway had this dash message when turning off the function but suppose the euro emmissions rating hardwired into firmware only allows it to be turned off for dyno testing etc ( showing this message as a reminder ) and not happy with it off all time so it gives a clear message to any inspectors (mot ) etc etc, as type approval is not being followed.

to be clear on this pictures of settings are in correct state..........by changing from active to not active is when the dash displays the fault
well thats my theory and im sticking with it lol
Dash fault
Start stop
Active

Regarding battery
I'm sure it's an AGM type leisure battery and your meant to type in the coding number to allow the battery controller to monitor the amps and state of charge correctly btw this is one of the prerequisites for the start stop function..
My battery is 9 years old original and had no bother with it and it sits for weeks unused at a time as its a weekend / project car I've neglected since I've bought it.

First I'd check you have an oe battery with correct coding.

Then if you have the obdeldven or vcds you can buy an original spec battery around £200 from varta or whatever that will have the reqd code.

Conventional wisdom seems to be that the start/stop puts extra wear on the Starter Motor and flywheel ring gear - plus I refuse to pay out for a heavy duty battery. I run with mine switched off on start-up, but with the option to switch on if required.

As above , I stare in absolute amazement about all these so called anti pollution systems requiring extra driving to fix...

Ok
So I have the same problem.
I don’t think it’s your battery. I believe it will possible be the start button.

if you press the start button down hard when you start the engine it shouldn’t show an error.
