Fail to understand how the above is far superior. Not for me. Personal taste end of the day.

At least the mercedes has controls both on the screen, on the centre console and on the steering wheel to change the settings. The new A3 only has the screen which is a major distraction when driving...

Former A3 owner with a residual interest in the A3. I understand the Audi ‘evolution rather than revolution’ styling ethos, but I would have liked to see something a little more different from the 8V body shape. I have watched the carwow review where Mat Watson points out all the styling changes, but oh for something more adventurous! When I decide to downsize from my A4, another A3 is bound to be on the shortlist, but the decision may well be made on the basis of the interior rather than the exterior.

The new design is about personal taste, but it appears a lot of us agree on the outside looking fine a it's evolution and familiar. The angular approach to facia and loss of round air vents is the bit I don't like, but for the life of me I cannot understand how any car manufacturer, not just Audi, can have a display screen that sits in the centre of the dash. You need to drop your line of site from the screen to see it. The outgoing A3 had it just about right. Up high on the dash, large enough to read without obscuring view.

Agree, bizarre statement
Not a bizarre statement at all mate. You only have to see that millions of Chinese would sooner stay at home than go out to buy a new car.

Jeez....nuff said. Let’s lock ourselves away then, and don’t go on the “online” configurators either

I watched the carwow review, at the end they show, the A3 and then pictures of the 1 series, A class and new Golf. I've always been a big Golf fan but compared to the other 3 the Mk8 Golf so bland !

The new A3 has grown on me a bit but based on my whole Audi experience I wouldn't entertain it. The cars are so let down by the customer service

Car is revealed yesterday and this thread is already attracting keyboard warriors a few who dont even want or a have a Audi ....or have a interest in buying the new A3....

Am I imagining it or were you not one of the keyboard warriors who said they would not buy the new A3 due to it going touchscreen?

Agreed, I like how they’ve taken some inspiration from the original Quattro

Are you buying that? They designed the car and then say oh look, it's a lambo and inspired by the original Quattro.

I can see it in the rear arches, there is a likeness.

Great, so stop talking **** then
Not me that's talking Sh......it mate. Your the one bringing it down to that level.....All I was doing was making conversation on an open topic about the new A3 and the effects of what might happen to the pricing of it considering what's happening around the world at the moment.

My S3 is in for service today and I have a 19 plate Q3 Sport Courtesy Car and to be honest the touchscreen dash is alright - It all blends in nicely and the A3 looks slightly slicker as well - Yes it's covered in fingerprints but that is the way all the cars are going because the younger generation expect it, so you just have to roll with it or buy something older I'm afraid.

Our old pool car - Mercedes A Class (before the new dash) had fingerprints all over that Ipad screen which wasn't even touch sensitive anyway but people used to get in and start poking at it.

I've had a 2019 Q3 Sport since May 2019 and personally I think the dashboard is fine and so does my wife who, because of my disability, does most of the driving. The Sat/Nav in particular is much easier to use than the one in my 2017 A3 Sport. I certainly not a touch screen loving youngster being 72 year old!

Its running away...... your imagination that is mate and fyi l dont mind a touchscreen especially when there's not another option
And whilst l am on this subject isn't a person allowed to change their mind now and again....on what car they'll buy @X3man l am sure you've done the Nev...?
And another point most members that are posting on here dont have a Audi nevermind an A3....no more...fly fly.....lol

Not buying that Jassy. You were defo a hater of touch screens.

I now have one and do NOT like it. Far too dangerous using it on the move.

More likely do to with the ergonomics of its placement mate rather than the screen itself....Ford dont angle the screen towards the driver...and it sits too high into the bargain

Not buying that!
You need to take your eyes off the road to operate one. If anything being higher up is better.

New interior looks great. love the angling towards the driver.

To be fair I do get that the touchscreen can be dangerous but isn't it in the same place as the old RNS-E system which had sat nav etc and cd changer - I know not touch screen but you still had to look down whilst operating the buttons etc

On certain Mazda's the touchscreen is disabled above certain speeds. I believe this is correct and hopefully will be formally legislated at some point for all new cars....

Buttons are entirely different because they require less hand eye coordination, unlike touch screens. I hazard guess over the next five years we will see a huge rise in crashes and eventually, they will figure out it was due to the drivers playing with their touch screens. To me, the over reliance on these screens to operate so much in vehicles is way more concerning than say something like Coronavirus.

I always use voice control and if it is a good system then it works really well. I believe the new cars will even adjust the temp etc via voice control.
