Q5 Tyre Wear off one one side of car

My car recently went in for its first servicce after one year (19k) and the garage picked up on the tyre wear.

In short, the tyres on the passenger side (left) were worn more than then tyres on the right, this seemed odd to me that it wasn't on the axle but on the side?

When i queried this i was told it was nothing to worry about but I haven't heard/seen this before and i was wondering if there is anything i should look out?!

If they are not to bad I would get them checked and tracked and balanced at a reputable garage .
If still under warranty I would be getting the garage to check it and the suspension components springs etc etc to find out why this is happening .
Sounds like the garage don't care about the wear as it would be cost to you to replace the tyres if they wear more .
What make of tyres are on the car ?

So the car has Michelin Latitude Sport 3’s all around, I did raise it with the garage (Audi) as it is only a year old and I was surprised by the wear on the tyres. They just said it was normal and probably potholes...

weird as it would be warranty work they would get paid for..

I would contact Audi direct and see if there has been a recall for this .and see if they will authorise the garage to look at it for a fault.

You need a 4 wheel alignment check - it seems probable that your Q5 is 'crabbing', getting it done will transform the handling - amazing when all the wheels are pointed in the same direction!

I’ve noticed that both my rears are wearing around the outside, much more than the front tyres. The cars done 8,000 miles and the outside of the rear tyres is on 3mm of tread left, the centre of the tyres has 5mm. The fronts are hardly worn.

Is this normal?

Not normal - you need a 4 wheel chassis alignment check.

You need a 4 wheel alignment check - it seems probable that your Q5 is 'crabbing', getting it done will transform the handling - amazing when all the wheels are pointed in the same direction!

I agree; first port of call has to be a four-wheel alignment check on a Hunter rig. It’s nothing to do with age or mileage. Wheel alignment can be knocked out by speed humps.

Turns out there is a recall for my car as the previous recall to fix the rear axel has put it out of alignment so I need to book it in for for a check. Apparently if it is found to be out of alignment Audi will replace the tyres if they show excessive wear. I’ll believe that when it happens!

Recall update: Ive just got the car back from the Local dealer, the alignment was out due to the previous recall. As the rear tyres have excessive wear because of this Audi UK have authorised a full set of new tyres is fitted to the car. It’s booked in to have this done in two weeks and once fitted the alignment will be checked again.

Interesting, my car also had premature rear tyre wear following the recall to replace the rear axle bolts. It blew out the rear tyres in just 3k miles from them doing the recall, having been just slightly worn over the previous 6.5k miles. Full laser alignment showed the rear tracking and toe was a mile out, both rears were heavily toed in and had worn heavily on outside edge with drivers side having a step on outside (Pirelli PZ 21’s). After a fight with the dealer where I was told this was impossible and that the recall could not have affected the wheel alignment ( we lock everything in place sir, could never have moved) I showed them the independent wheel alignment printout and asked them to prove to me it was like that before they did the alignment. They couldn’t as they admitted they didn’t do a alignment check as part of the recall process. They paid for one brand new tyre( I was happy with that given they were part worn at 11k mile use) a full 4 wheel laser alignment and a small good will payment.

Mine was back in yesterday, they replaced the back 2 tyres, said the fronts were fine and they realigned the car again. I was given paperwork saying work done as a result of the recall.

Anyone else got their recall for the recall letter? . Got mine this morning. 42L5 to check the tyre alignment post recall of 42L1 rear axle alignment.

Still can’t believe they didn’t feel the need to and do a wheel alignment after fiddling around with the suspension fixings, locking bar or no locking bar. I hope everyone who has ruined tyres gets replacements paid from Audi too.

It will cost Audi a fortune, mine had the alignment checked twice, that would cost a fair bit if you had to pay yourself and 2 new tyres at £160 each

Hi Ibought a Dec 2021 Q5 19000 miles, My Garage manager astute Grandson and myself both didn’t notice the excessive tyre ware on the near side rear tyre, I phoned Audi Belfast to make an appointment and the first appointment available is 21st Dec 23 because of re calls, I said what if I get 3 points and was then offered a emergency appointment if I left my car with them for up to 5 Days and you must bring someone to take you home as they no longer run you to a bus station, I’m getting fitting 2 Audi continental tyres and getting a 4 wheel alinement in a Tyre Outlet, on sat 11 nov 23, Has anyone else received the same service and most importantly Can anyone inform me if Audi replaced the defective fault Tyres for free, Have recalls ruined the one time great Audi Service
