Exhaust tip coating issue

As the title suggests, whilst washing my car today I noticed the paint on one inner exhaust tip has started to flake!

Cars only 5 months old and following previous exhaust tip issues with my S3 and S4, the latter being replaced under warranty for pitting, it seems the RS3 tips aren’t holding up well either and I’m always so careful in keeping them clean!

Could I spray with some heat resistant paint or is it worth reporting to my local dealer who supplied the car?

There is a TSB for this so could be worth reporting to Audi. I sprayed mine with some high temp paint, I started a thread about it, should be on here somewhere.

Last time I checked the TSB there was still no resolution on offer.

Mine on one side are starting, to be fair if it becomes such an issue I’ll spray them myself, however if the A45s wows when I get the call from Merc to view / drive the demo the RS3’s May be numbered anyway

So booked the car in with my Audi dealer today to assess the exhaust tips, they said there is a TSB on the system for this but the advice from Audi currently is to do nothing!

Apparently they are investigating further and looking to find a solution, my local dealer is going to keep me updated.

I will live with it for now and may look into getting the tips powder coated which I know means removing the back box but probably the best long term solution unless Audi improves the coating and offer me a replacement.

Mate I would be demanding a replacement tip/exhaust. If the dealer won't warranty then write Audi Uk directly. You own a near enough brand new £50k+ motor with a warranty you shouldn't have to live with it. Also it helps anyone else this may happen to in future to get this fix in the system.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say. Get Squeaky.

I’d rather wait to see if there’s a better solution, if I replace then the chances are I’ll be in the same position again in a few months if the tips flake again. Had the same on my previous S4, replaced under warranty due to pitting but the new tips were doing the same after about 6 months!

My dealer is usually good and I have a great relationship with them, I’d rather wait and see if anything comes of the TSB before pushing it further in a couple of months with them.

I expect the coating not to flake off after 5 months.

Only had this issue with Audi’s, my previous cars albeit strangely all from the VAG group had no issues, could leave the exhausts for weeks and a quick clean and polish and like new again even after a good few years.

It will get sorted one way or another but when I keep my cars looking nice and the exhaust tips which are hardly unnoticeable on the RS models are looking cr*p then it doesn’t look good.
