2021 Audi S3 Preview Video

More sad that it's also diesel :puke2:

True for EU. In NA, it is still the V6 petro, so all good. :)

But given that both are touchscreen now, I don't see a reason not to stick with S3. I just hope the Haldex 6 is much more reliable.

50 mile commute a day impractical and stupid not to have the car in efficiency mode 90% of the journey, but by keeping the car in efficiency ... when l do need a bit of power? my God the car feels so fast

Anyway back to the new A3 does the new S3 have a all new engine or does it just have the same engine but reworked ie ruined even more.
Its early doors yet but i sense Audi have not gone to town with this new car and that's a shame because they have missed a big opportunity to jump ahead of the new 1 series and A class both of which l feel are pretty average offerings

We are living in a car world full of mediocrity now and it's only starting
Had a laugh at the "What Car" journalist quote the new S3 available to order this May with delivery in July never gonna happen lol
What car did mention about the new A3s build quality....being "Not as good as the old model and also some cheap looking/feeling interior plastics!!!! why do they do this ....to such an important car ....for them l can't fathom their logic out

Most people just still see the four rings on the badge, and that's enough to still be better than the rest of their friends.

It's funny, but before we were all saying we hope they don't ruin the A3, and the current car looks just right. Now the new car beaks cover (sort of) and people are now saying it looks boring.

For me, I'm pleased they haven't messed around with the A3 too much. I've felt that over the years Audi's design language has been a backwards step. Most of their older cars look better than the current crop.

The interior is the biggest problem for me though. Cheap looking and cheap feeling. You might as well go buy a Ford. Cheaper to buy, and probably more fun to drive. And getting rid of the MMI wheel is the stupidest thing ever.

Since buying a BMW I've realised that Audi do little things really well. Better than BMW. Sadly making everything go through a touchscreen is backwards and to my mine dangerous. But like everything, they want to appeal to the next generation of buyer. That generation want their whole life run through a stupid Ipad.

My disappointment with the S3 is just the engine power 306 Bhp is a backwards step especially when they've been giving the Rs3 395 Bhp for the past few years even Ford gave the new Focus ST an extra 30 Bhp and its rumoured that BMW are going to release the 340 bhp140iM next year so 306 bhp is definitely a backwards step....touchscreen only is a fact of life now with VAG cars l can live with this and the new car design overall is good

I guess we'll have to wait for the official figures. But as VW are rumoured to be giving the Golf R more power, it would seem bizarre if the new S3 wasn't the same. Especially as Audi / VW could then get the jump on the A35 AMG and the M135i in power terms.

Maybe they've had some kind of gentleman's agreement regarding power outputs?

I think the new S3 will have around 325/330 bhp . Giving the S3 306 bhp again would be a stupid move on Audis part I imagine a lot of people will
stick with the current S3 if this is the case .

Looks a bit high up. Interior is a vast improvement. BMW 1 series looks better from the outside for me.

I just wish they would reveal the actual cars ... it feels like it’s taken ages ! At least then we can decide once & for all if it’s a car of interest or move onto other things. Plus the longer they make us wait the more the anticipation ... or anti climax

Certain car manufacturers are dragging new cars out. So much so, that by the time they've actually come out, they already feel like old cars, and people who constantly swap car to be seen in the next new shiny `In car` have moved their interest elsewhere.

TVR being one of the worst case in points. But Toyota had been bringing out the new `Supra` for the last 7 years. And when it arrived, it wasn't the car everyone wanted anyway.

The new Golf / A3 delay has probably been down to Diesel-gate, and WLTP regulations, caused by Diesel-gate. Plus VW admitted they were having to delay the car due to technical problems with all the new technology they're trying to shove into cars these days.

I totally agree & thought the same that there is almost a feeling of the car feeling old before it’s even launched & as it been such a long build up.

I think the car will closely resemble the Q3.
So that coupled with the shots in the video give us a pretty accurate vision of the car.
I’m really not sold on that dashboard though and will definitely need to see that first hand to gauge properly. My cars in for a service shortly so may have a look at a Q3 interior to see what I think.

I keep pondering the Merc A45 S so will have a first hand look at that car too shortly.

I wonder if the likes of the UK insisting on electric only in 15 years manufacturers will be reluctant to develop new petrol engines now and will just tweak the existing stock.

they will still keep developing them for the global market - so the uk will still be offered them up to 2035.

it’s still a huge leap yet to be realised though. Last year the uk new car sales was 2.3 million which is higher than the worldwide sales of EV’s ... so Petrol / diesel will be with us for some time to come - 15 years post 2035 has been quoted which is the timeframe for the remaining fuel cars to be on the roads for which takes us to 2050.

And I'm sure as the years go by, that 2035 date will keep getting pushed further and further back. I can't see all the manufacturers jumping to the tune of the UK, when the rest of the world is happy with petrol / Diesel cars.

End of the day, if the big car manufacturers said `No`, there's not a lot any government could do. Stop selling your cars !!!! OK then. That country would then fall to it's knees.

Plus the infrastructure to allow anyone to charge their cars anywhere will never be good enough. Yes, you can charge your car at home, but what about those who don't have driveways? Live in flats? If your journey is further than the battery will take you? You can only have so many charge points at service stations. So you could end up with tailbacks of cars waiting to get into a service station just to plug into a charge points. But each car will then have to wait 45 mins for the car at the charge point to charge up.

Petrol / Diesel. You're in and out in 5 minutes.

Manufacturers should be spending the money on Hydrogen powered cars instead.

Couldn’t agree more mate & that’s where hybrid vehicles would have made the steady transition much more feasible along with hydrogen as you note.

as for the new S3 / RS3 at least they are full Petrol so I won’t be worrying about charging or range anxiety for the next 4 to 5 years lol if I end up getting one :)

Does anyone who buys a S or RS car care about this? :tearsofjoy:

an S model is far more frugal on fuel than any RS model...by quite a long way!!!!! I had a Golf R and had a long term average of 30, in the RS its currently 23. Same roads, same commute to work. The S is superb on fuel until you’ve had the likes of an M or RS car.

Still on about that bland fugly Mercedes that looks like a last gen Korean hatchback.......mate lol

couldn't agree more. Unsure on what all the hype is. Having sat in a mates A35, it’s not a bonnie car, looks bland from the outside and inside just isn’t my bag at all. Yet again, I like the interior of the Q8 my old man has, but yet again, most appear to hate the touch screens. Each to their own and all that, but think I’d rather go BM than Merc if I was to move away from Audi.

Wasn't all the power outputs leaked by VW as well showing the R will have 329 so why would the S3 have less - I'm sure they gave them the car as was but will tweak the official car when it launches

Like Jassy said though I can't see the S3 being available to order in May for July/August deliveries unless they launch A3/S3 at the same time but they don't usually

Well I hope they don't hang around too long releasing the S3 for order. I've got that 'change itch' now and I don't know how long I can control it ... lol :)

I'am getting the change itch with the new S3 coming out but i'am gonna try and hold off until they start doing deals on them

.....and have designed out some of the early issues. How many years did it take them to acknowledge and then fix the PFL 8V EA888 turbo wastegate rattle?

I tend to keep my cars long term so will be a spectator on this model for a while.

I had turbo replaced under warranty on my old 8P A3 that was down to the waste gate issue. The hinge pin on the waste gate was a design weakness. I hadn't realised it carried over to the 8V .. So i guess you are right they do take their time on rectifying design flaws.

Yeah that's a good point . I kept my last A3 for the best part of four years which is pretty good for me but I am a bit of a sucker for the latest an greatest
model unfortunately .

Should be ok as they’re not changing the engine will just tweak it for more power I assume

That'll be 12 to 14 months away at least for a decent deal ie 10% at best

These will also come with Otto Particulate Filters lol no thanks I will stick with my facelift. Other than the lights, these will look cheap and plasticy as it seems this is the current trend with Audi
