Does anyone have any problems closing the tailgate when pressing the close button on the underside of the tailgate? I dont have the comfort & sound pack.

About 50% of the time, it goes all the way down, but doesn't fully latch and makes a beep sound. I've tried the reset procedure several times without success. Rang my Audi dealer and they said I had to wait 3 weeks as they were busy.

Not a big deal, but find it embarrassing in a busy car park continually having to open & close the tailgate.

No, has happened the odd time probably 3 or 4 times in 4 1/2 months but not enough to bother me. I think mine may have been because I have a boot liner and it had moved slightly when it was new so might have interfered with the latching but haven’t had i happen for a while now. Sounds like an issue with yours.

Mine has done it but only when my boot has been rammed. It is annoying that you can’t close it from inside the car though.

You can, pull and hold the release button in the drivers door until the tailgate is fully closed (or fails with the beep).

Can you give it a helping push when it reaches the bottom, if I'm doing a tip run and the boot is full a little helping hand enables the latch.

OMG game changer. Just went out in the rain to test it. Can’t believe I hadn’t tried that already. Thank you Dave

Had this "fixed" on Saturday, problem returned later that day. Going back again a week Tuesday :weary:

Preston mate.
I got through to a call centre at Stoke Audi at first, who told me it would be the New Year when they can see me, I told him no chance and he put me through to Preston. I then spoke to the chap who dealt with me last week, a really helpful guy and he fitted me in for next week.

The saga continues, after taking it back mid-December, I was told the tailgate control unit needed replacing, this part was on back order so I was provisionally booked in for 2nd January. On this date, I received a phone call telling me there was no courtesy cars available and to come back 16 January.
When I arrived on 16th January, no one was expecting me, although the part had arrived. I was hastily given a courtesy car - a manual A3 with next to no diesel in it (was channelling learning to use a clutch again) and I was told I could have £100 credit in the Audi accessories store. Unfortunately the store isn't online at the moment, so I'm unable to choose something.
Worse than that, as soon as I tested the tailgate in the dealers car park, the tailgate wouldn't close properly. I called the guy who dealt with me out and we tried it 3 more times, but failed to close once again. The service manager came out and was very apologetic, but another wasted journey for me. He said he'd be onto Germany on monday morning and he'd "sort something out for me" in addition to the voucher I have been promised.
In all, I'm very disappointed at the moment, what the point of an estate car when you cant really use the load area? When I got home again, I tried the tailgate and it took 6 attempts to close.

I'm sure they have checked but am wondering if there is something stopping the chrome plate around the latch mechanism moving out of the way to allow the tailgate lock to engage as it closes

It somehow wouldn’t surprise me if they hadn’t checked!

Taking it back in on Friday afternoon, they want to spend next week comparing it with an A6 Avant they have there, to try to find the issue. They've bumped the accessories voucher to £250 as well.
Hopefully this will be sorted this time.

Picked the car up this afternoon, tested the tailgate at the Audi dealer and was working fine.
Stopped off at the supermarket on my way home and the problem is still happening - tested 5 times in the car park and it failed to close on 3 occasions.
Will get on the phone to them in the morning, really, really had enough now.
Does anyone's tailgate bleep when it closes?

My tailgate beeps only if you close it via the foot sensor (and possibly remote) but not via the boot lid button.

Given the lack of resolution despite numerous opportunities to rectify, perhaps you might consider rejecting the car if that is still an option? once all avenues have been explored of course.

Thanks for the info, I dont have the foot sensor, so that's very interesting. On my 3rd visit, the salesman who I always buy from did suggest the notion of rejecting the vehicle is future efforts to fix were unsuccessful.

I'm seriously considering this, as I am becoming extremely dissatisfied. I originally ordered an A4 Avant in April 2018. By December 2018 it still hadn't received it and I cancelled my order in favour of this A6 . A couple of months after taking delivery, the tailgate issue started. Very infrequently at first, but it has got worse as time goes on.
I have noticed Audi customer service if this issue tonight, so will see what happens.

My gripe is in no way with Preston Audi, I've bought 4 cars from there and my wife has bought 2, we have always been treated fantastically well by them and it's annoying that something that seems quite trivial can cause such annoyance:

Imagine being in a car park, in the pouring rain, being watched by bemused shoppers as you repeatedly open and close the tailgate 5-6 times, of your 12 month old car, with a list price of 47k.

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be.

At the end of the day, if all attempts incl. reasonable part changing has been done by the dealer and still no result I don’t see any reason to not get it re-made if it is a dud. Bear in mind that options have changed since you ordered by my calculations on time period so that’s worth considering how far you would want to pursue the repair route rather than a rejection if a replacement doesn’t work in your favour in terms of options.

Made a few phone calls this morning and emailed the business manager of the Audi centre, to notify them of my intent to reject the vehicle.
Hopefully things should start moving now.

It might be operator error, just saying....

Haha I'm beginning to think that. Maybe I'm pressing the button too hard/not hard enough or for too long/not long enough :grinning:

A simple single quick press and release is all it needs and I’m sure you tried that a million times already :footy:

A million +3 after 2 more failed attempts right now.

I’d be driving it with the boot open back to the dealer to let them struggle. Knowing Murphy’s Law, it would close with their first press though.

Heard from the "Aftersales Manager" today, apparently Audi won't take the car back as it's "not a safety issue".
So I've got to make another 2 hour round trip a week on Saturday, to leave it with them for another week and that they'll not release it to me unless it's fixed.
This is exactly what they said to me last time.

Plus their last failed attempt at repair now means that my tailgate rattles over every speed bump.

It is a safety issues. Say it doesnt close and it opens randomly now when driving

Are you in touch with audi UK about it? Might be time to start finding email addresses of senior Audi people in both UK and Germany and taking to social media. Sadly I find this is the only way to prompt action in these situations.

Not a very good start, there was no courtesy car available for me, so the guy who I usually buy from has let me have his A4 BE for the week.

****** hell. Don't think you'll be buying Audi again
