Key not closing boot

I've got the comfort and sound pack with my 2020 A4 Avant and I believed I should be able to open and close the boot from the key fob.

I can open the boot from it, but can't close it from it.

Have I got this wrong or is this a fault?

The close function only works when you’re about close enough to actually reach up and press the button on the tailgate itself

Not really, you don't have kids around for sure.

It's a safety feature that forces you to be present (there) when the heavy tailgate is shutting down.

I've tried multiple things - and I cannot get the boot to shut with the key, if I double click the button it clicks like it's opening, holding the button does nothing.

It is part of advance key - however it I don't have a particularly high success rate in getting in to open that way.

I really don't like using the powered tailgate where there is any headroom restriction as twice now it has started to open further having pressed the button to close it having stopped the tailgate opening fully using that button.

Quite clearly my post states that the power operated boot is standard though, and the OP states they have the comfort and sound pack, which the advanced key comes with...

Power operated boot is standard, the advanced key can activate an additional bit of hardware, which is a kicker under the boot which opens (and closes??) the boot.
I don't think the fob itself allows you to close the boot though in any direct way.

I've managed to get it to work, but one of the replies is spot on. You must be stood next to the car for it to work.

Seems a bit of a pointless feature as you've got to be that close you may as well just use the button on the boot lid.

What do you press on the key fob for it to work? Double click definitely tries to raise it more for me, no matter how close I am

What year is your Audi and do you hold the boot button down to shut it - or double click it?

In the 2020 A4/S4 Avant
- To open the boot double click the key to open and this will work from up to 20 meters away.
- You can also wave your foot under the bumper and it will open if you have the key in your pocket (useful if hands are full)
- Close the boot by pressing and holding the key button. As others have said you need to be very close to the car. Not that useful. I tend to use the key. BMW boots close from much further away.

I find the keyless entry tricky. On the UK built pre-Brexit Nissan Leaf you press a button on the door to unlock if you have the key. On the Audi with the key in my pocket I seem to have to pull the driver handle 2-3 times to open the door so I tend to use the key. My car seems also to be in “South Africa” setting in that even with the driver door unlocked you have to pull passenger doors 2-3 times to open.

All things said I tend just to use the key fob to unlock.

Easy fix, get a new CR2032, these keys chew batteries fast

The car is only 2 months old so I doubt this a a battery issue. As I said unlock function boot works from 20m. I think this is by design.

You need to give it a second to sense your fingers inside the handle before you lift it - I’ve found two things helpful;
The unlock sensor position on the inside (unlike the lock sensor which seems to be under the square depression on the outside of the handle) is not so easy to reliably locate - especially if you only use one or two fingers. Experiment with your finger placement and you’ll learn the best place to hold.
Secondly, make sure no part of you or anything you’re holding is resting against the outside of the handle when you are trying to unlock the car.

Also, it’s worth pre-empting anyone trying to open their door as you’re unlocking the car as I’ve had the alarm go off on several occasions when the passenger tries to open their door as I’m opening mine.

This advice was gold dust. I have now worked out where the sensors are the touching the door handle in the right place opens the car every time. As such think it was not a battery issue - I have loads spare. Thank you Pork. Top advice!
