Interesting results and seems the cars perform very differently!

I’m actually not surprised by the launch although much closer than I thought with same 1/4 mile but am surprised by the mid range result!

I’m sure much debate to be had!

Fascinating! Hard to argue with that. I’m afraid I’d still have to rip out that filter, though.

Haha good man TX.

To be fair I was surprised as expected the pre to edge it in all areas but very interesting to see a mixed bag.

Launch does seem softer although from results on here I think there’s still a knack to hitting those lower 0-60’s but the dyno results confirm where the power is on both models, 1/4 mile times pretty identical.

That top end on the pre is impressive though if you’re hitting the autobahn anytime soon.

Mid range though a big feather in the post car results.

Enjoy your cars guys, RS3 still the coolest car out there.

Great video!!. The cars are pretty much identical and anyone would struggle to tell any difference between the two especially on the road. Would be great to get rid of the filters but this is the way things are going and like other don’t want to make my car illegal or have issues with the insurance. What we need is an exhaust manufacturer like akrapovic to start making a sports OPF like lots have done with sports cats..

Lots of companies looking at sports GPF but they will be very expensive. Sports cat and std GPF seems the way forward but tricky to fit as its all a one piece system.

Is it just me or did Yanni shift way too early on the rolling race where Matt pulled away. Would have been a better test if they were both in auto tbf. The other car shouldn't have pulled away like that unless the former were in the wrong gear. Other than that it's a pretty fair test for once, and nothing between them really.. I wonder if Matt reads this forum? :)
Also, isn't 12.5 kind of slow for either of these cars?

No reason to make an sports OPF unless you really care about carbon emissions. It's not likely a care for anyone who buys a high performance petrol automobile surely? Only reason to run a cat at all is to pass an MOT sniffer test, so those removing the OPF for the purpose of tuning for more power are going to go with the highest flowing, cheapest option that remains legal.

Noticed the early gear change also. The 2017 vehicle also had extra weight in the form of a pano roof.

Edit: Cars were also dyno'd in 2WD mode it seems...

Yes I’ve always wondered why Audi made the new OPF car and the ‘sport edition’ with a sunroof as not really anything sporty about a sunroof and makes the car slightly heavier, all down to money and packaging their cars for maximum sale/profit!

Very interesting, but I’ve just seen awesomegti have done a stage3 RS3, 622bhp and 532lbft!

So question is, who’s got the fastest RS3 in the country

Dave Henderson I believe, but that car has sadly moved on.

The reason I went for the non sport edition was because I didn’t want the roof or sports seats. Any car that I have had with a stiff set up and a roof had always creaked. Same with the seats, any car that I have had with sports seats I have always struggled with comfort, so I now just stay away. Annoys me that Audi only let you have certain options on certain models

Yes annoying you don’t have the choice any more.

Saying that I always spec sunroof and had on my S3 and S4 so would have always ordered on my RS3, I’ll happily trade a bit of weight to let some light in and open it up on a nice day.

Totally agree, I like the light as well but the creaking seals I don’t, I love the roof in our RRS and because of the softer suspension it doesn’t creak at all. My merc was shocking if you didn’t wipe the seals down with wonder wipes.

Never had an issue with creaking to be honest on any of my Audi sunroofs...hope I haven’t talked that up!

Me neither, and as reported brings all that lovely light onto the Super Sport Seats

Based on these results it may be reasonable to assume that an OPF RS3 may even be quicker than a pre OPF once the OPF is removed from the exhaust. The filter would have to cause restriction and have an affect on power.

Like DJAlix said, the pre-OPF car has the pan roof so will weigh more, add in Yianni being almost 40kg heavier than Matt and it can make a difference when we're talking about tenths of a second. As I said in the other thread, the pre-OPF car being 2 years old must have had its first service now and likely a tyre change as well. Can't really tell which tyres they are though. The dyno charts were interesting and explained the rolling race results.

Yes there’s always subtle variances I imagine, they did swop cars also at one point with Yianni’s weight cancelling out the sunroof weight in the pre OPF, who knows how much fuel was in either car, tyres better on one car versus the other, newer OPF car still being a bit tight and not yet run in, how had the pre OPF car been treated etc etc.

I think the test was very interesting and has surprised a few people and how the cars are subtly different, the launch on the OPF car does seem a bit softer but the mid range seems slightly stronger with the results and dyno.

Also interesting was the bhp results on the dyno being identical at 409bhp as has been mentioned that the power was down on the newer car, seems not the case.

in reality you wouldn’t notice the difference with daily driving.

Yeah you won't notice it unless you drive both daily I think which I guess only people who work at Audi do. Someone in the other thread did mention the dyno being 2WD only?

I drive both daily, they do both have v different torque curves and as a result the GPF car doesnt launch as hard, so its interesting to see that carwow found that too.

Yeah, no idea what difference doing a 2WD dyno makes?

I’m more interested in the mid range as that’s where you’d benefit most I guess other than dragging the car constantly? Do they get away off the line the same without launch I wonder?

Ive not run any times on either car yet so can only go on how they feel. GPF car feels tamer than my non GPF but doesnt have the torque dips like the non GPF. It feels a bit smoother and more refined, which for me is not really what a RS model should be. Both cars have plenty of potential from mapping tho and the stg1 development on the GPF car is going well.
