Remap options for A4 272 Quattro?

Finally had mine mapped today by DMS and wow did they do one hell of a job! Apparently it was a bit up on power anyway, as when they did the stock run the dyno was showing 284hp & 650nm (should be 272 & 600) - Rob (the owner) thinks it must just be that I have a v healthy engine. Anyway - the figures after remap: 366hp & 780nm!!
I nearly fell over backwards when they showed me the screen. Economy is better too, I had a 2 hour journey home and was giving it some stick at times, and averaged 39.8 MPG. So I am vv happy with the result and would reccomend them anytime. Awesome place to hang out while they do it, and Rob has some v tasty cars to drool over too.
Watch out S4 / S3 / Focus RS / A35 AMG etc....I'm coming for you!

U will surely upset a lot of cars.

I did with just the tdi box on!

Thats so impressive! I didnt even know that they could tune to that amount of power and torque. Although I must say that mine tuned by them doesn't feel that much, feels around 330bhp and 700nmish

Done 70k miles but tbh there are some days where it feels more.

I test drove an s7 tdi the other day and was really amused by the noise more than anything else.

There is a bit of lag but the feel of the thing won me over. Feels more like a v8.

Straight line performance I'd say my a4 is quicker, but maybe that's down to the weight.
Yes...I certainly was impressed. It now just feels like there's a huge hand on your back shoving you down the road. I had a brief play with a Jag F-Type V6 on the way home and there was basically no competition. It seemed like the Jag was all noise and no go, I outstripped him easily.
Nice! Do you mean an SQ7?

Yeah, the torque on the v6 tdi means u can keep up with loads of cars with similar power but less torque figures.

No it wasn't even the sq7, it's the s7 tdi which uses the same v6 from the 272 but with the mild hybrid and other new tech.

It really won me over and will most likely upgrade it do it next.

That should do 400bhp and 800nm comfortably too. Can imagine what the s4 feels like!

Ah yep sorry - I'll be after the S6 - need room for the family! Or maybe SQ5 ;)

Yeah, all 3 use the same engine and it's nice to have that familiarity when you drive it.

I'd say in comfort the engine feels almost the same it's only when you put in dynamic where the fake noise does a good job of tricking you about what car your in.

Sounded a lot like the American muscle car v8s when you gave it the beans. It actually made me smile for a diesel and was very characterful.

You can also tell they've fiddled a lot with the internals to get those power figures. Overall it's feels like a much stronger engine stock compared with the 272 from factory.

Where as the 272 makes a decent sound but it's quite refined. You just get a hum and a deep purring sound where as the s model amplifies that 10 fold and makes you feel like it's a v8

Wow I didn’t think you could get that power from just a stage 1. Enjoy

Your one looks completely different to mine. Mine was done in August at DMS

Interesting! Rob did say they do vary a lot from car to car, just depends on the health of the engine and how it's driven etc. Mine has done 58k miles now which he said would help, as it's fully loosened up, and I do a lot of motorway cruising.

I thought the only 2 options were 218 or 272? I may be wrong - unless yours is a TFSI?
Taking out DPF is not recommended if your anywhere near needing an MOT....unless you are v friendly with the MOT guy!!

I phoned them up today, I’m popping in next week as I only live up the road from them. He said it could be down to temperature too, I had mine done in the summer and it was a hot day. Like you I’ve done 55k and 95% of my driving in that car is cruising down the motorway to work and back. You had a terraclean done or anything?

Another nice little feature I found tonight - since the speed limiter has been removed, i can now set my cruise control all the way up to 199mph :) (Previously it only went up to 155.)
Planning a trip to Germany soon, interested to see what we max out at ;)

No nothing at all. The only other mod I've done is remove the centre silencer from the exhaust, this would improve airflow a bit, but it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I run it mainly on dirty diesel too - I don't often by premium stuff, too damn expensive!

Interesting, did removing the centre silencer bring any vibrations or noises into the cabin?

No, tbh I don't think it has made any difference at all as far as I can tell, not even any more V6 noise :( not that it would being a diesel.

You have to get rid of the DPF to get any meaningful noise from them. The DPF /Cat do a very good job of quietening the exhaust.
Mines similar to this when I have the flap open in the bypass valve I have fitted.

Sounds interesting, does the bypass flap bypass the DPF then? And how do you get it through the MOT?

Bypass opens before the rear silencers. Car has no DPF or cat . It's a 2008 so strictly doesn't need a DPF . Passes the emission test no problem at 0.4 . The limit on my car is 3.0 as it's a June 2008 car. The marked limit on the VIN plate is 0.5 . With the DPF being at the back of the engine it's hard to see if it's there or not. On more modern cars just a few years old passing an MOT on the emissions without a DPF would be tricky .

Been reading through your build thread Karl, v interesting. In regards to the hidden menu on the MMI, I take it you need a diagnostics unit to get into this? (I know my MMI will be quite different from yours being a B9)

Yes nothing really gained with the b9 'hidden' mmi menu

With the engine cover in place its slightly more difficult, but they can probably see the downpipe from underneath the car above the subframe.

Darkside developments have now got a 272 as a project car. Could be interesting, they got over 500bhp out of the B8 3.0 tdi.

I lied, its a 218bhp front wheel drive they purchased by accident.

Yes, but it has a DSG box and not a ZF8....and who wants front wheel drive lol
Exactly . I had a front wheel drive one as a courtesy car and it just felt wrong, a bit like having sex with your socks on..

I saw the 3.0 TDI B8 at the Performance German Day at Castle Combe. Spoke to them about the car as I had seen it out on track .It had melted the VVT mechanism on the turbo and they had changed the turbo. Ignoring things like EGT you can get bigger numbers and you will get away with it for a while. On track though with sustained high speeds you will get found out. Running the car with 150 degree oil temps as well not good for a long life reliable engine. Look at the video around 8.5 minutes.
@bobby singh

Dyno figures looks great problems only occur when you use the power :)
Continous EGT @ 900plus will ruin the turbo in no time.
Just as a bit of information a car I done about 8months ago done a top speed run on a runway (1.4miles).
He managed 176mph from a standing start and made the bend - peak egt's recorded where 905 deg.
Obviously if I did not put a egt limiter the fuel would not decrease and break the turbo before the end of the run.

Ask some basic questions when you get your car tuned, you'll soon rule out the generic file flashers.

How much difference would this really make though bhp torque wise? I thought deleting the dpf was illegal too.

Just an update -

So a friend brought an s5 coupe and while it is fast, I was shocked to notice how different the kick felt vs on mine.

It was no where near as neck breaking as mine felt although the power did feel good, overall I didn't expect it to feel as less fast as it did.

Just goes to show the difference between 500nm to 700nm. Even though the s5 is supposedly 30bhp up with a higher rev band, it didn't feel as quick as mine.

I'm definitely going to dyno soon to see how much power difference there is because on the road mine honestly felt quicker.

Nice! I have yet to trial mine hints an S4 or S5, o even an S3. I had a race with an S3 before I had the remap and I could keep up pretty much until we got to 100mph or so, so pretty sure I would whip one now ;))

Just back from Germany today the max speed I got was 174mph felt there was more but didn't get the chance to better it!
