Hi all,

So I'm new to audi, i received my a4 on friday. It actually broke down on me 12 hours after delivery in central london. That was fun waiting on the side of the road down oxford street until 2:30AM.

Im a bit underwhelmed by this car so far and unfortunately need to keep it for 3 years, so am trying to do all I can to improve it. I wish it had the pre facelift seats, audi seem to have cut a lot of corners on this car, considering i paid £1400 for the COMFORT and sound pack and £1000 for leather seats, youd think the seats would be better.

It is the 30TDI in the facelift so produced a measely 136hp - my other cars are porsches and a bmw so as you can imagine this feels extremely gutless to me.

So I was going to get it remapped to try and help a little.

I just wanted to ask a bit of advice as I've never had a car remapped, the closest thing I've done is fitted a sprint booster to a cayman so im a complete novice in this field.

I've booked in with AMD for a remap next week, do you all have any advice on what to ask and what to expect? This is a lease car that will be returned in 3 years, should i consider anything for this scenario?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing to really consider is the fact that you don't own the car, and if it is found out that it's remapped that will invalidate the warranty on the powertrain and the lease company are not likely to be happy.Remaps are not invisible which is why a lot of people fit tuning boxes, whilst these are not as good as a remap they can be removed before the car is sent to the garage for servicing / repair.

Very good point, thank you. Do you happen to know of any removable ones? This car/engine is quite new it seems so it’s hard to find info online.

Did you choose the specs of the car?

Might be a good idea if you contact either @ABYSS here by PM, or his Company, DTUK direct https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/

Thanks for the info, I looked at their website but it seemed they only do throttle maps for this car.

I did spec the options. I had very little choice in terms of engine. It was either a 150bhp vw Passat or the 35tdi a4, I chose the 35 pre facelift, Audi then contacted offering the lowest engine 2litre in the facelift, I accepted but wasn’t aware it meant a power reduction.

Yes there isn't a product on the dtuk website, I did look and is why I suggested you contacted them directly. Unfortunately it seems you 'broke' the golden rules on purchasing a car and unfortunately now you might have three years of regret. I feel your pain...

Yes, thank you for that. I have made contact, sounds positive so far. We are going to speak tomorrow. I will update this post for anyone interested on the outcome.

So as promised reporting back. I’ve had the DTUK for just under a week and have now used for 1200 miles. First of all, the support and service offered by Andrew is brilliant. I believe I was the first to try this on my engine/output but that wasn’t a problem at all. The car has been completely transformed, it was so bad in stock guise I genuinely didn’t want to drive it. Now I feel confident pulling out, overtaking and just generally blasting down the motorway without having to constantly get out the way of cars I’m slowing down. The torque increase is dramatic. I have done a few test runs with inaccurate yet constant data recording methods and it seems 0-60 times are down from ~9.5 seconds to ~7.5 seconds. The app is easy to use, installation is easy too. There are various settings, I’m not the kind to read instructions so I just jumped straight in with some guess work, thought it was great with the settings I picked. Then I spoke to Andrew and was told to read the instructions and given a setting to try, improved things further, I’ve now played around a bit more after reading the instructions and found there are benefits of using certain settings on the motorways and certain settings around town. Great flexibility having the option to just use the app to change things on the fly. I will come back and update if any problems occur but so far it’s an absolute game changer in my once ridiculously underpowered car.

So I’ve had the DTUK box in for around 6 months, it vastly improves the car. The car is still slow don’t get me wrong, looking at the speedo is depressing but the torque is amazing, it feels like you’re going faster than you are. It gives the car enough torque to make it enjoyable. Previously I was very disappointed with the a4 30, it’s the slowest car I’ve ever driven and with the lack of a front end it felt horrible. Now my opinion has changed and I will likely keep the car for the whole lease period.

Hi

ok, thanks for update. so you didnt have any problems with it?
thanks

Audi have cut back on the seats? Are they just made out of wicker now?

The seats on my old Skoda Superb were far better than the A4, and they were no where near as good as my Alfa Romeo 159 before it. If I just put the Alfa Seats in the Skoda, I would have had the perfect (‘ish) car!
