Hi all,

I tried looking on the forum and internet but couldn't find anything! Just wondering if anyone knows of someone or if it is possible to retrofit the wireless charging unit in to my B9 S5? I put my phone in my arm rest a lot so wireless charging would be pretty useful.

Got it in mine and cant imagine not having it. Very handy indeed

I have it in mine but don’t use it as I connect with lightning cable so I can use sound cloud on CarPlay.
Think you can get aftermarket ones a lot cheaper.

I only recently realised that it 'attempted' to boost your mobile signal when on the charger :)

My understanding is that they are not repeated devices as they connect via Bluetooth and do not use the mobile frequencies to connect?

I wonder if they did a recall and disabled the existing ones or not?

I don't know and I don't think mine's been disabled, perhaps they were applying it to new cars only. However this was always existing legislation since 2006, just never applied for some reason. It maybe also that Audi successfully applied for and was successful in obtaining a licence.
Although in the configurator it no longer advertises this feature within the phone box:
"Audi Phone Box with wireless charging
Offers wireless charging (with Qi-enabled compatible phones) and creates an additional Bluetooth interface for a second device, meaning 2 mobile phones can be connected to the vehicle simultaneously".

As we don't have the NFC Key Option on the A5's I wonder if this ever had the booster?

Neither has mine got nfc but it has the booster, taken from the my17 brochure:

Look in the boot on the right inside the storage bin. You will either see the booster module or not. The issue wasn't about the booster itself. In 2018, Audi changed the booster to include more bandwidth and cover more regions. This caused the issue. All cars had their boosters removed before delivery or as part of a recall. You will see 3 wires wrapped in foam, if yours was removed and an error on the cars error log, to show that the aerial is disconnected. Now the booster is not even advertised as an option.

Cool, mines a 2017 S5 so probably still has this, certainly I have no errors logged for it.

Look in the boot on the right. There is a module holder behind the storage bin. You can see it there, if you have it.

You'll see a fault in the 5F module if it has been removed after the car was built. The fault is only visible by the diagnostic tools. See mine below.

3086 - Antenna for Telephone Mount
B1564 01 [009] - Electrical Failure
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 4
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 1
Mileage: 2 km
Date: 2018.04.17
Time: 13:19:04

Voltage terminal 30: 12.6 V
Status of telephone-Antenna diagnostic: OK
Status of telephone-Telephone baseplate diagnostic: not connected
Status of telephone-Handset in handset holder (cradle): not selected
Status of telephone-Handset holder (cradle): not connected

I checked, I have a small unit there with two aerial connections and a small block connector in the middle so I guess mine still has something :)

You will have the GSM or 3G booster. It was the LTE ones that caused the issue. Check the part number of that module.

Pointless without wireless Carplay or Android Auto in my opinion. Certainly not worth the 500 quid that Kufatec are charging. Would be interested if @creweaudiparts could supply just the charging mat assembly and cable assemble for charging only?

I have the wireless charging cradle that I bought intending to upgrade but haven't done so. If you are interested PM me.

Thanks mate but decided to hold off on it for now. Saving for a road trip round Europe so can't justify these sort of things at the moment (how boring I know)

Just buy a central console organiser and put any old wireless charger under the place for the phone. There is a USB socket in the armrest which is perfect for it.
The BIGGEST advantage of the factory option is the useful voice reminder that you have left your phone on the car when you try to leave the car without it.

Road trip sounds good!

Thats the point if @creweaudiparts can get the OEM mat and the cable assembly then you could code it with VCDS. You do also get the phone reminder if your car is plugged in via USB also though.

Nope, CarPlay is not wireless on this generation of the MMI.

Also you dont need half those cables in the Kufatec kit. You literally, just need the power cable and the charging cradle, which isn't even included at that price. The cables included are for the mobile booster, which is being disconnected and discontinued anyway.

I don't think they have an active program to disconnect the boosters, just the ones they 'tweaked' or 'upgraded' as mine has been for a service but is still there :)

Did anyone end up installing a charging mar in the console?

I see the latest wireless charging mat has increased in size. My phone can't lie flat on mine from 2017.

Does anyone know if this can be upgraded? Pref OEM

Obviously wiring and coding is in place from original. I asked my dealer who said they couldn't do it.

I’ve got a wireless charging cradle for sale ignore anyone is interested?

Came out of an S5 (2017) but my phone isn’t wireless charging and the planned upgrade isn’t happened so it’s still in its box!

If you’re interested, let me know.

Buck thanks but I think that is probably same as mine (2017), the link Strandgaard sent looks promising as newer one but minimal info/dimensions on that site - I'll need to contact them.

Anyone had experience of fitting these?

I did - and it works perfectly. I bought the charging pad on eBay and the cable harness and coding dongle from Kufatec. I would imagine that anybody with VCDS could do the coding without the dongle. The Kufatec wiring does not include an aerial wire to the roof aerial, but assumes that you mount an extra aerial on the right side behind the rear bumper.

I did put the amplifier in the back, but haven't had the time to install the extra aerial just yet. I don't imagine that the difference in signal strength is that significant though.
