Hi
I have been looking for a while at getting a TT as a change from my 10 year old A3 (which has been a cracking car). I have found one locally with a pretty decent spec (which I have put a deposit on) and have been working on deal with the garage - have almost got them to £18k for the car

https://listers.co.uk/used/cars/audi/tt/2.0t_fsi_s_line/301756

I realise that buying approved used is always slightly more than going to any other car dealer but it would come with a 2 year warranty, 2 year roadside, 2 year mot cover, 2 year key cover and 2 services. Now I am unsure if the warranties and cover offered are worth the paper they are written on or not but just wondered what people thought?

Part of me is concerned that the car is almost 5 years old being a 65 plate and the mileage is slightly higher than I was looking for but I don't see myself putting huge miles onto it. I have also been told the alloys aren't the standard ones and they are in fact the option ones (I prefer the standard diamond cut ones) but nevertheless these looked great when I saw the car.

I think I am looking to keep the car for 1/2 years and then move it on, but quite difficult to judge the value it will have at that time due to the changes in spec from the MK2 to MK3

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

My first thoughts were £18k is a lot for a 65 plate especially if the miles are high!

You can buy an Audi warranty direct from them even if you buy the car from a non Audi garage https://www.insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty#get-cover-now, same with the roadside assistance, the services wouldn't sway me because I don't use Audi to service my car, I use an Indy as they do a better job and key cover can be on your insurance policy anyway!

After a quick look for the same sort of money:
65 plate with only 5,900 mile on the clock! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201911104214517?

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. Do you think the price is high even with the the one I am looking at having sat nav, option wheels and the pearl grey paint?

Cheers

I can't see the full info as it says it's no longer available, but if you're thinking the miles are high and have doubts, I think you should listen to them doubts and keep on looking! What was the original price and what are the miles? Have you thought about getting the 1.8 engine in a newer/higher spec?

Sorry yes they must have taken it down due to me having a deposit on it.

It is the 2 litre tfsi Daytona grey - 30k miles. Original price Audi had it for was £18,990. They have a Black Friday event on at the moment with Listers which knocks £500 off the price to start with, so I took the price as more £18,490. They have got down to £18,190 after a few days back and forth negotiating.

The car has the optional alloys (ones pictured here https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTMwWDgwMA==/z/OgQAAOSwvu5bh~nd/$_86.JPG)
It has the tech pack, comfort and sound pack, rear parking sensors (might be included in comfort/sound), has a lighting pack for the doors.

Cheers

Ignore the Black Friday bull, that money is always there to come off ;) Yeah it's got some decent options then, it's a tough one. It depends what you value the most.

Not wanting to put you off, but I'm thinking of going TT next year and was looking at the new Black Edition as I like the look of the fixed spoiler, tints, black alloys etc, but then I thought I'd rather sacrifice the looks a bit and go for the s-line quattro for the same money as i know as soon as it started spinning the front wheels I'd be thinking "Should have gone quattro!".

When I had the S3 I had a loan of a front wheel drive TT and I booted it the same as I would the S3, it did spin a bit which has stuck in my mind. The A5 coupe I have now also spins at times, especially when wet and I have just had to change the 2 front tyres at under 7,000 mile (heavy car and lot of stop/start trips don't help). That is also why I'm wanting to go back to quattro, I sold the S3 with with over 17k on the clock with the original tyres still on, wear was even all around.

Slightly newer, but a few more miles BUT quattro and you still get the 2 year warranty etc. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201910153323643?

Nip over to the A3/8v forums (busiest on here) and just do a poll in there asking quattro or non quattro/more spec, I'd put money on most saying quattro.

Sorry to throw it in the mix but it's my personal thoughts :)

Not at all appreciate the honesty. They want a decision from me today (yikes) and to be honest I have been looking for one with this spec for a while which is what has made it so difficult.

I have had those thoughts about the Quattro before. In fairness I don't drive crazy more like an old man so it was more for the winter/ice/snow.

It does seem to be based on the car valuation sites mileage has more of a bearing than spec and that is what is casting some doubt, but equally I haven't seen one with this spec come up since June! They always have something missing normally whether the tech pack or comfort and sound.

I did look at their finance deals but 10.9% is a killer for me.

Hi guys, just dropping in on the discussion.
I am now on my 5th TT, I have had 2 Mk 1s, both 225s, 2 TTS Mk2s and my latest is a Mk 3 2017 TTS Black Edition (310 bhp) with 8K on the clock with the popping exhaust you dont get on the 306 bhp version I have had for 4 weeks.
All 5 of them were quattro and all 6 speed manuals apart from this current version which is an Stronic which I call the S-Schizophrenic. The gearbox gets a little confused until it learns how I drive especially in Eco mode.

In the dry I have zero wheelspin but in the wet only when i`m pulling away from a junction the front wheels skip a bit if i am spirited (not even into kickdown) on get away which was a bit disconcerting.
The car went in for a health check and diagnostic which revealed zero fault codes for the haldex unit or electronics. I am currently in talks with Audi UK tech support to get some clarity on why the car does it, in my previous manual transmission cars I never had a hint of wheelspin under any road conditions but I have noticed a big difference in how the traction control intervenes between manual and Stronic versions, drive select dependent. I want to educate myself about the car better which is my thing.
Anyway, i would not have anything but a quattro they are great in adverse weather normally!

If you get a newer Audi a warranty is a must, the extended one can be bought for all cars that have done less than 100 K miles and under 10 years old. The priority for me would be to buy a car that is going to remain under 100 K miles for the duration of my ownership with a spec i am happy with.
You will always pay a bit more for a used approved but you can be sure its 100% (or close) to being a good machine. It is harder to guarantee from an independent generally thats why an inspection is vital before purchase.

2015 cars are usually around that mileage, but you can find them with fewer miles if you are prepared to wait - expect a water pump and cam belt change at 42 K miles and make sure you have good tyres, their policy is to sell with a min of 2mm tread which is appalling .Also check that the tyre repair kit is in date along with the Nav maps...

Appreciate the reply. That does sound strange, hope Audi can sort for you!

I actually pulled out of buying the car as I do think it is still priced a bit high (even if approved used) as in two months time all of a sudden everyone will look at it as a 5 year old car.

The issue I have is that I have been waiting a very long time to get one (almost a year) with the spec I want and starting to realise perhaps it doesn't exist. I have seen some cheaper 1.8's come up both on 17 plates with 9k and 17k miles respectively and they were only priced slightly higher than the 65 plate I was looking at.

The mention of expected work is helpful too, what concerns me is that the Audi garage actually said to me when I asked about the cam belt change that it was a chain and wouldn't need doing! So shows the salesman didn't know what he was on about.

Hi, you’re welcome, it’s a pity you’ve had a hard time finding one. The Audi Approved cars site usually has lots of cars on offer, so sometimes have reasonably priced cars pop up at the right age.
As for the timing chain, no your dealer was correct from 2015 on the TFSI engines do have timing chains that will be good for 150 K miles they aren’t a service interval item
I was thinking of the earlier engine types which do run with a cam belt from crank to inlet cam, and a chain from inlet cam which drives the exhaust cam with a tensioner at the opposite end to the cam belt. So your 2017 car would have had all chains. My bad.

I’ve just spoken to Audi tech and they have convinced me I don’t really have an issue I have to modify my driving style, it has to be different in an Stronic compared to a manual. I am in fact finding I am spinning far less now. The system isn’t as sharp in an auto probably because of the greater latency in the drivetrain compared to a manual I’m guessing.

their policy is to sell with a min of 2mm tread which is appalling
But I bet if you did a px that low they would pull you on it and offer less! I just changed my front two tyres with 2-3mm left, as I'm keeping the car for potentially another 10-11 months and didn't want to be that low over winter!

what concerns me is that the Audi garage actually said to me when I asked about the cam belt change that it was a chain and wouldn't need doing! So shows the salesman didn't know what he was on about.
As Pablo said on this occasion he was correct, but I always take what they say with a pinch of salt....my post in another forum the other day backs this up! This is that post:

I nipped into the VW Chester showroom this morning, they had a red Polo GTi in there, the SALES guy came over and started chatting. I said "Am I correct in thinking that you can select a black roof which also gives you black mirrors on the Polo GTi?" he replied with "Not as far as I know, I've never seen one".

As I drove out of the car park look at what was on the end to the right, less than 100 foot away from the showroom entrance!!! :D

Ohhh a Polo GTi with a black roof and mirrors!! Nothing like knowing what you sell is there??? :p

Ouch! That is embarassing! On tyres, some dealerships demand you have 4 mm min` tread before they would consider a PX but will happily sell you a car with 2 mm on its shoes. The whole deal is a disgrace.
S32B how are you getting along keeping your white car clean? I have just bought a black TTS and I said I wouild never have a metallic black one ver again, but I got suckered in :p
